  1. I'm not convinced that accumulating and destroying inf will actually lower prices, but it can't hurt. The money supply theory is a sound one in real life, but influence isn't created like fiat money.

You (the collective you) "create" inf in one of two ways: mob kills, and vendor sales. Everything else (unless I'm missing something) is just pushing it around from one person to another, usually with a cut for the dealer which goes towards BaB's house in the BVI.

The ability for a lvl 50 to create inf in this manner has been tested and is a ridiculously high number. The amount of influence already in storage is also very high.

Only the devs can cut the rate of influence creation, but once it gets created, anyone can accumulate it and, if they so choose, destroy it. If you can destroy it faster than it is produced (which I find doubtful), then you can cut into the accumulated supply which should lead to lower prices.

Personally, I think that with tickets, merits and A-merits, the devs have set effective price caps on *most* items.
  2. I see that neither of you spent any influence on design school. I admire a self-taught, er, whatever you are!

I call dibs on designing the shadowy meeting room where we discuss what prices to set for Chaos Theorems.
  3. What's the point in keeping score if you've already won?

As far as I'm concerned, I'm helping Paragon City get the resources they need to finally fix Boomtown.

(And you have plans to go on an family-only TF, or ski-trip, or whatever afterward.)

Based on my experience with Greek women, your wife is going to smack you but good for not thinking about it beforehand. "Honey! You should have bought feta last week when it was on sale!! You can freeze it you know!!!" SMACK.

Then again, you can always buy Nevermelting Ice beforehand as well. It doesn't melt!

To insinuate otherwise is to grant him more credit for power over the market than he deserves.

    No offence, Nethergoat.
Wait, that doesn't sound ebil at all!

  11. Ok, I cranked up a very old alt of mine to see what the top SGs on Guardian are, prestige wise.

I'll totally add 1 bill to the till, but...

How hard could it be to earn enough money in the marketplace to gain the top spot? (answer: totally freaking hard, but a major challenge) 176mm prestige, call it 88bn in influence, with all members making it happen?

I'm in. Sending global friend now Fulmens.

    Mission Salvage

Ah yes, my mistake. Some missions (only one or two, I think) have "special" salvage to accomplish a task. Follow the clues on those and you'll be aces.

    Mission Salvage

Orange salvage is used to craft rare (and some uncommon) recipes. You can also sell it either to vendors (for 5000 inf) or to the marketplace (often for more).

If this is your first piece of rare orange salvage, I'm guessing you got it somewhere under level 20? The reason I ask is that most of the low-level rares don't sell for very much in the marketplace. There just aren't that many good recipes that need them, and the supply is pretty high.

    Hope that helps!

I'm particularly fond of the one that just sold for 4,500,011. Mainly because it was listed at 19.

edit: also, is the 10x nevermelting ice listed for xxx, 0 each still a bug, because that could account for about 150 or so I've had listed at under 10k for the past 5 hours or so.

It wasn't me! I buy mine at 17 and list them at 67k or less.

Anything significantly over 1000x markup is a little too greedy, even for me.

Thanks! There are blocks at 66,666 as well.
  19. For procs and such, I charge a lot more that lvl 50s. A lot more. They don't move often but they always sell.
  20. Actually, most of the time I buy crafted enhancements cheaper than I could buy the recipes.

    Who knew?

I would second this, but I refuse to incriminate myself.
  22. I think part of the problem is that it really isn't worth ANYONE's time to buy cheap salvage/recipes, hike over to a vendor and sell it. If you use the market, there are a lot easier and faster ways to make more money. If you don't use the market, then just gleemail yourself the money you need.

That said, I'll often buy a few hundred common salvage off the market and just delete them. Costs me almost nothing, and helps reduce the supply a tiny bit.

What I am asking for, and what makes this work, and what frustrates the hell out of people is for someone to simply lay out their identifying markers for a "potential" niche.

You all do it. Every last one of you who marketeers even somewhat successfully does it. You probably don't even realize it any more. You look at something, anything, and evaluate it based on ideas you have in your head.

You may say no to an item for various reason - "Too many for sale" - "Way too much fluctuation" - "No (or not enough) recipes available on a regular basis". You all have these qualifiers. People new to the market do not.

They lack the years of experience that you guys have to fall back on. We're missing steps 2 and 3 in the 4 step process here, and everyone keeps telling us to do step 1 and 4 but never mentions 2 or 3.

Step 1 - Got to market and open window.

    Step 2 - ???

    Step 3 - ???

Step 4 - Buy recipe, salvage, craft and sell at profit.

    To use a similar example:

I ask my neighbor "How do you get to the hospital?! I have a broken leg!"

He says "You get in your car and leave your driveway. When you get to the hospital, go into the emergency room."

Helpful information, but it doesn't get me there, ya know?

Steps 2 and 3 are the evaluation of the niche. This is where the actual marketeering and profit takes place. Anyone with a reasonable intellect can figure out how to sell something for more than they paid for it. But the evaluation of a slot is the key here.

This is what frustrates people. The lack of that evaluation knowledge is what holds most people back.

Well, one way to do it would be:

    1. Find your target trading universe by data mining forum posts in various AT forums. The most frequent mentions in builds are good candidates for initial targets.

    2. Monitor trade prices for a target commodities every 15 minutes for a 2-week period. This should give you a good idea of what trading frequency looks like as well as what average price and volatility looks like.,

    3. Set your target bid at 1.5 standard deviations below the mean trading price, and set your target offer at 1.5 standard deviations above the mean.

    4. Set exit parameters and stop-loss limits that fit your individual risk tolerence.

Me? I just find something that I think is useful, throw in a few bids that I think are higher than the lowest outstanding bid, repost (or craft) at a level that I think is lower than the highest outstanding offer. Works like a charm, but not very rigorous.

(edit: don't forget the 11.2% rule. Stupid commissions going to build BaB's island mansion.)
