Welcome back, Manticore!
I still remember you at a test server party, and how many of us waited patiently in line for you to give us funky yellow titles.
I still have the screen captures of mine- "Skyscraper Incarnate". -
Wow, who peed in your cheerios Feihung?
Good point about some sort of timer preventing griefers from spawning a crapton of enemies. But does it have to be 60 seconds?
Even 20 would cut that crap out.
The kids trick or treating anology doesn't quite hold water to me, because this is NOT a game for kids. Sure, some parents let their underage kids play, but it's intended audience is for teens and adults.
I don't mind the halloween event containing many of the same elements from year to year. The costumes added some variety from last year, and I like the consistancy factor- didn't get Iron Warrior on all of my characters last year? I managed to get it for several of them this year. And even still, I managed to miss out on badges for a few characters. No problem, there's next year, I can do it then.
As for the costume powers being permanent, I would prefer that we get some of the pieces added to the costume editor instead.
Rather than look like the same scrapyarder as everyone else, I would like to have some of the parts, like the puffy vest, hardhat, and flannel pattern shirt. Mix and match them with other things, pick my own colours, etc. -
I would be in favour of eliminating the timer too. Even when I was going to different doors, it still took forever to open them.
Once most characters hit the mid to late 20's and get SO's or something else as powerful, it takes much less than 60 seconds to dispatch the spawns that pop out. Trying to ToT solo was more of a grind-fest than fun. And that's a crying shame. Alot of the time it was hard finding teams to play with, due to the scheduling conflicts with issue 11 testing. -
Guess I'll wait till next year, then.
Iron Angel Aveda's armour's going to take some serious time to reproduce. -
I never did get an answer to my question- in-game, I have to fake things like long skirts and hakama pants. Is it okay to use the real thing for my costume, or do I have to "fake it" in real life as well?
-
I'm finding the personal timer to be a real drag, especially when trying to solo- due to the funny hours I work, sometimes there just aren't lots of teammates around.
Moving sounds good in theory, but in practice not so much. Move onto another door down the block, and hear players snap at you for invading their turf. -
Please remove the personal timer, it's just freaking annoying having to sit and wait every time I get a treat, or wipe out the spawns quickly.

I remember one of the winners- Diva7 or something..She was just wearing a bikini bottom, tube top, and thigh high boots. Essentially a bathing suit or underwear, and some fetish gear. Not much work, really. I would not even have looked at it if I were judging. I would sooner have chosen somebody who looked like they put a lot more work into the outfit, even if it didn't look JUST like the screenshot.
I've got some very impressive stuff in my closet- cloaks, kimono, flowing robes, stuff like that. Too bad most of it is well and truly beyond what the costume creator can do currently. Flowing Kimono sleeves or ankle length skirts/robes? Nuh uh.
So this brings me to a question for the rednames-
Is it okay if our real life costume includes things like that? Close approximation in-game, ie japanese pants or long female shorts for toon, long skirt or hakamas on real life person? Cape of the four winds on toon, Isis wing cape on real person?
If that's allowed, than I might just be in business, if the judges are willing to ignore my plus-sized, kinda short self.
Dave, some of the safeguard missions you can get at around level 5-10 will take place in offices, so I think you're in business -
I wish there was an NPC category for costumes. That carnie clone last year was awesome, and I've got the makings of a wicked Tsoo Sorcerer outfit.
However, I'm pretty much barred from dressing as any of my in-game characters. I'm nowhere near 8 feet tall, and even if I fudge the height, there's still the fact that I am plus sized, and any of my character's costumes most likely would look terrible on a figure like mine. Nobody wants to see a fat woman in tight leather, and most armour on an oversized body only magnifies the chunk factor.
I don't plan on making a whole new character just to have one that looks like me, or something I could throw together with stuff from my closet. That's a little too close to cheating, IMHO. -
I wish this event was lasting a week or so longer- with so many of us afflicted by alt-itis, and for those testing in closed beta, it's seeming a little short.

I voted for dual blades in the poll too. Why? Because I've had a dual-sword wielding character or two I've wanted to make ever since I started playing this game, and IRL, dual sword is one of my favourite weapon styles. Wanna call me a moron to my face?
Samuel's right on here, insulting people because you disagree with what they picked is pretty weak.
My second and third choices were for energy and psionic weaponry. -
I heard one player here once explain how his claw scrapper took down criminals without having to kill. Something along the lines of surgically precise strikes to key parts of the body. Doing enough damage to incapacitate somebody, but not quite enough to permanantly maim or kill. Dual blades could work the same way.
Likewise, I've heard of real-life counterparts to Kenshin- Samurai who used wooden swords in place of steel, or wielded dull blades- they could still fight if they had to, but were far less likely to take a life.
Admittedly I would ALSO like to see a staff or nunchuck wielding scrapper, those would be fun powersets as well. -
Count me in as another who thinks this lovely symbol has a definate nordic look. I too noticed that it was twisted into a stylized infinity symbol.
Overall, Amanita likes! A metal version of this would make a lovely clasp for the cloak I just finished making. -
I wish it had run a bit longer, I lost about 5 days due to a religious retreat, and I'm SO close to getting that darn accolade on my two characters who want it.
-
Very nice movie, quite well done!
-
So the whole crey thing is kind of a conspiracy?
Perhaps the kind of thing Woodvale's defenders would not know about while making that last desperate stand. Perhaps something that might be found out about much, much later by the survivors.
I checked Red Tomax's story arc guide, and didn't see much- My main has run both major DE story arcs- Unity and Terra. -
Just how much of the story of Eden has been explored in CoH? I know the basics- that not too long ago, the Hamidon made his presence known, and the Devouring Earth pretty much overwhelmed Woodvale, twisting it into their own warped paradise.
Pretty basic stuff, as explained in the CoH strategy book. So far, not much else of the story has been told, by contacts or anyone else.
Is there much more written about the fall of woodvale that's "Canon"? I want to write an RP story involving several of my characters and the epic battle of the fall of Eden, when the DE finally overwhelmed the place. -
Love the costumes on the vanguard shield, especially that lady wearing the white and purple. PLEASE tell me we're getting her chest detail/shoulderpiece/whatever that thing is!
And it sounds encouraging that we'll be getting new costume bits- hopefully some will NOT be inventions or vet rewards. -
Yeah, same here..Some non invention costume bits please.
Anyone think those vanguard look totally bad-[censored] and want their costumes? -
Looks like somebody's given the Rikti a makeover Perhaps they've been visiting Icon for some new looks? I like!
This issue sounds like it's going to rock, the world event sounds freaking awesome..Let's just hope that it lasts for a few days so everyone can play with it.
I just have one request- please dump some more NON-Invention costume bits into Icon for us to play with, please! -
I like some of the quality of life changes like the added trams, trainers, and king's row store. I also like the fact that some of my lower level characters can afford sets of DO's now, with the salvage they've sold.
However, I would have liked this issue lots more if there had been a nice selection of new costume pieces NOT connected to inventions. -
For melee, I cast my vote for dual blades and psionic weapons.
For defense, willpower and forcefield.
Perhaps design the dual blades with kind of a chinese feel- we have Japanese and european weapons- I'm thinking tai chi-style swords or perhaps sabers, commonly called Dao or chinese broadswords. -
Awesome..Wonder if people will be able to use this to design costume parts? I have 3DS max training, albeit a few years out of date.
-
Just out of curiousity, do auto assault time cards work for CoH? I've heard both yes and no. And I can get auto assault cards cheap at futureshop.
-
Good point Jester..When there's too many people, too much good stuff gets lost in the shuffle.
Unfortunately I can't make it- I've got a real-world party to go to- I've spent quite a chunk of change on a chinese emperor's robe to wear- brocade's not cheap.
As for my character's secret Identity- unfortunately the costume generator doesn't allow me to dress as one of Steel Canyon's biggest skyscrapers
