I hope they remove Dev's Choice and Hall of Fame.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This would remove the huge amount of pressure that I now feel every time I log in.

You know, the devs could pool everyone who already has these badges, to see if they'd be angry. You know... all 9 people.

    [ QUOTE ]
Also reduce the virual badge requirements as mentioned.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Leaving these alone I could live with. Because, you know, eventually I'd get there. It's the badges that are outside of my control that are bothering me at this point.
  2. [ QUOTE ]

From my perspective what they did wrong with the Architect badges:
<ul type="square">[*]Instituted "fan votes". This opened up griefing and a PVP aspect to actually earning badges. A bunch of player can look at an arc getting close to being a hall of fame, there is a wave of negative votes to prevent it from achieving it or staying there.[*]Made another arbitrary developer's "gift of the gods" badge. Bug hunter is bad enough, now it has a sibling.[/list]
    [/ QUOTE ]

    /signed.

These two badges, in particular, have had a really, really negative impact on my play experience. Rather than play and enjoy the new arcs, I must advertise, spam, beg, and brown-nose in an attempt to get my arc some plays and votes.

It's bad enough that I'm seriously considering a change of hobby. (Never thought I'd say that either. And no, you cannot have my stuff.)
  3. [ QUOTE ]
I'm not going to say such a thing, but I am puzzled by your attitude.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Did you play the arc yet?

    [ QUOTE ]
There's no physical way to get all the badges associated with the game, so I don't know why that's even on your list of "destroys every bit of fun I have in this game."

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, this is demonstrably false. Beef Cake has all the badges (or he did just prior to i14), and so do a few others who were fortunate enough to be awarded Bug Hunter. It is physically possible.

But I could "sort of" live with Bug Hunter, even though the odds of my being able to get it are vanishingly small. It was a goal I could still reasonably strive for. But with the introduction of another "devs' whim badge" and the new "players' whim" badges in i14, it seems that the goal post is receeding from me much faster than I can run toward it.

And because of this, sitting for an evening's play session is now a negative experience for me, rather than a positive fun one. It feels too much like work. And work at a job I have no reasonable chance of succeeding at.

It makes me sad. I'm just sayin'
  4. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
But my desire for the badges associated with it is robbing all the joy out of this game.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Fixed that for you.

I'm never going to have every badge (not even close); despite your best efforts, neither are you. If that's the only reason you're playing this game, or enough of a reason that it destroys your enjoyment of the rest, I'm sorry.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Fair enough fix.

But before i14, there was every possibility of getting all the badges. I only needed Empath, the 2-billion influence badge (forget the name) and Bug Hunter.

Bug Hunter has been widely criticized for being awarded arbitrarily by the Dev’s themselves and not by any objective, measurable standard. A player could try and try indefinitely and never get this badge for reasons beyond his control.

But now there are more just like it.

Now I cannot just play the game the way I want, run the new stories, enjoy myself while making slow progress on all the new shinies. Because there are 2 or 3 new badges that will require me to do a lot of promoting and advertising and begging people to play my stories. So much of my time and attention now is focused on these things I don’t want to have to do. And this bothers me.

You personally might be fine with this. Fair enough. But I don’t like it. And I’m perfectly fine to state that this is a possible deal-breaker for me.
  5. [ QUOTE ]
Why have there been NO new dev's choices at all? I do not expect hundreds, that would defeat the point of it but why none?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think there have been one or two.

But this is diametrically opposed to previous dev statements to the effect that there would be a "lot" of Devs' Choice arcs early on.

And it’s even worse when you factor in something that I said back in beta: That the devs might have arbitrary criteria that disqualify arcs, but which they do not share with us.

Tonight I stumbled into this thread. So I find out that my arc might have lost out because I didn’t say “bring friends” to a mission in which an EB exists... even though, in my opinion, anyone who cannot handle an EB solo is not using proper inspirations and/or common sense. Are we heroes or not? Sheesh.

This situation is very, VERY discouraging to me. I’m a badger, and badges are what keeps me playing this game. But the devs have created yet another “Dev’s Whim” badge (the first being Bug Hunter) that I will never get unless I know the secret formula.

I do not play computer games in order to feel frustrated and/or helpless. If I want to feel that way, I’ll pick up a newspaper.

IMHO, the Dev’s failure to pass out more Dev’s Choice badges is going back on their word. And it makes it very unlikely that I will ever be able to keep up with the new badges. With sooooo many frikkin’ farms out there, my arc needs recognition somehow. And without Dev’s Choice, it ain’t gonna get it.

I hate to say it, but i14 has really shown me the writing on the wall.

There is a lot of good stuff in MA.

But the desire for the badges associated with it is robbing all the joy out of this game.

I can no longer make progress on my badges simply because of my own effort, but because of the whims of others. Which is something over which I have no control.

And nothing makes me feel less heroic than a lack of control.

And feeling heroic is why I started playing this game in the first place.

And before anyone starts accusing me of sour grapes or whatever, PLAY the arc listed in my sig file, and tell me honestly that it sucks.
  6. [ QUOTE ]
Please dont' even bring up farming...I really don't want another thread digressing off it's topic.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But farming if the fundamental problem here.

I find it difficult to believe that the devs failed to understand that this sad situation would occur. But apparently they did.

    Nope, that's not enough.

  7. Zubenelgenubi

    Zombies...?

    crap crap crap crap.
  8. Zubenelgenubi

    Zombies...?

    All,

I was just about to start a horror arc, and cannot find zombies in the MA mission designer. Am I missing something, or are zombies just not there?
  9. I'm quite late to the Turg Admiration Society meeting, but since I only just found this thread, off I go.

This arc was, quite simply and without any exaggeration whatsoever, the frikkin' BEST story that I've ever played in this game. Ever. It started out slow-ish, seeming to be one sort of story, but quickly morphed into another. I went from, "Well, let's see how screwy this Dev's 'Choice' arc really is," to being totally involved and immersed in it.

    &gt;SPOILER!&lt;

In the timed mission, I entered and immediately was all, “oh, S#!7!!” when I realized how little time I had. So I ran to the end, bypassed the mobs, drug a couple along with me, and suddenly had the fight of my career on my hands. FORTUNATELY I had a tray stuffed full of high-end inspirations (including a few presents) which I had on me for some reason or another.

I burned through every inspiration in my tray, used all my best temp powers, and was glad to do it, because I... was... NOT... going to fail this young woman who had put her trust in ME, dammit! And by doG, I did not fail! I got her out in plenty of time, and I can honestly say that it’s been a couple of years in this game since I felt so heroic.

Even now, a few weeks later, writing about that particular mission in the arc has me choked up. Talk about immersive.

And yes, I also knew exactly how it was all going to eventually end.
  10. [ QUOTE ]

what's wrong w/ Eastern Standard Time? afaik...television programming commonly uses that...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Because the country (most of it) isn't ON Eastern Standard Time right now. It's Eastern DAYLIGHT Time.

When the rest of the country is on EST, Arizona is 2 hours behind. When it's EDT, we're 3 hours. To the few million of us here, it matters quite a bit. And it's easy enough to get it right.

I love this community. Where else can I see people get bent out of shape because an event's timing may inconvenience an individual, or a pile of posts arguing 12:00am vs. 12:00pm?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I love this community. Where else can I see people getting criticized because they'd like an announcement about a unique, never-to-be-repeated game event to have unambiguous times, or the correct application of Daylight Savings?
  14. [ QUOTE ]
It's against the EULA to use misspellings of dirty words to get around the filter in CoX. CoX is very careful about presenting a clean-cut image of their comic-book based universe. Seriously, the filter is there to keep CoX wholesome. Even children can enjoy CoX the way things are. By going to such lengths to include profanity you threaten to make CoX something dirty. Something that parents will want to keep hidden from their children. CoX should be something everyone can enjoy.

    Shame on you.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, let's protect the children from looking at anything with their NAKED eyes! Oh dear lord, no! They'll turn into sex fiends!

And while we're at it, let's censor part the phrase "wood screw," even though there is a dev-created cannon story arc that has a character saying "screw you" in a way that has nothing to do with carpentry.

We're not going to ruin the surprise...but suffice it to say that all CHAOS is going to break loose in-game on our anniversary date and you're not going to want to miss it! From 11am EST on April 28th to 12am EST, get ready to re-experience some of the things that have made City of Heroes® the great game that it is over the past five years! The festivities will be more fun than you can shake a stick at, and will include plenty of opportunities to earn merits, badges and XP.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sooo... let me get this straight:

    (1) The special event is scheduled for a workday.
    (2) The special event is in the middle of the workday.
    (3) The special event lasts one whole hour.

    (4) We do not actually know in which hour the event will happen, because you posted using EST, Eastern STANDARD Time, when most of the country is now in Daylight Savings Time. So we're left to guess/infer/assume that you actually mean EDT...?

    (5) You imply special badges that may or may not be earnable outside this magical, mysterious hour.

    Wow.... just... wow.
