Quote:That kinda illustrates our point, the really high end stuff is subject to diminishing returns. Yes Panacea sets are expensive but the actual increase in effectiveness over Doctored Wounds sets is minimal. In other words it provides a long term goal for those who enjoy spending time and effort wringing every last bit of performance out of a character and is completely ignorable for everyone else.Actually, I am not trolling. And seriously, i set out to rebuild my main this weekend, a purp'd out Dark/Invul Brute. I was gonna replace the heal sets I have in two powers (55 rech each bonus0, with PvP heal sets (7.5% bonus) Many of the enhancers 9like half) are going for 2 bill each.

I hear George Lucas is going to re-write Maria Jenkins arc so that Primal Earth attacks first.

Another similar story, I was working on field crafter for one of my characters and had a handful of level 40 jump IOs to sell (or was it level 35?). I know from experience that Jump IOs do tend to sell but somewhat slowly. Anyway the last 5 market price was about 500k which seemed high so I listed them for about 150k and left it at that. However they didn't sell for several days despite the last 5 prices remaining at 500k. I was a bit surprised and decided to see what the ones on the market were going for. I ended up buying 5 of them for 1, 10k, 10k, 100k, 100k.

Take a look at what generic enhancements the pets can take, those aspects will transfer over (this means that the Recharge in Soulbound Allegiance doesn't change your pet's personal recharge). Set bonuses do not transfer over although there are two IOs that increase your bots defense/resistance when they are near you (very good value for a slot).
For bots the Drones and Assault Bot basically just need Damage and Accuracy with extra slots being used for set bonuses or procs (damage should be ED capped, Accuracy you want ED capped on the Drones but the Assault Bot can manage with 1-2 SOs worth). The Protector Bots are a lot more variable in general you want at least some damage and accuracy slotting (I'd say 2 SOs worth of accuracy) plus it's useful to have both healing and defense slotting for their support powers, although as a /Pain you might find it better to skip the healing enhancers in favor of more defense since you'll be less reliant on their repair ability. It's also useful to give your Protector bots some endurance reduction slotting, mine always seem to be a bit short at higher levels.
I made a chart a while back showing how much accuracy you want based on whether you have Tactics and what difficulty you're at:
Regarding actual slotting the pet damage sets are not that great. Blood Mandate is good if you're building up your MM's personal defense and it can be useful to two slot a few sets for recovery or regen bonuses but other than that Frankenslotting is the order of the day. The pet sets have a decent selection of multi-aspect IOs you can use and the other excellent option is Hamidon enhancements if you've got the cash. Since these provide 2 SOs worth of enhancement in a single slot they are quite a bit more powerful than multi-aspect IOs (although level 50 triple IOs come very close). You can get Acc/Dam HOs which are useful for all of the bots plus Healing/Endurance and Defense/Endurance for the Protector Bots.
For procs and special IOs there are the two aura IOs I mentioned above, I'd definitely take the defense one to stack with the protector bots shields and the resistance one is handy if you've got room. The Soulbound Allegiance Build Up proc is nice in your Assault Bot and Explosive Strike has a damage proc that all three bots can use.
For overall set bonuses the two main options are Defense and/or Recharge. Defense is most useful if you want to play a Tankermind which is a possible option especially if you keep your pets close and spam your AoE heal to heal both you and them. Alternatively you can build up recharge to get World of Pain and Anguishing Cry up more often and let your Bots take most of the damage while you heal them. -
Quote:I can't speak for other marketeers but personally it wouldn't impact me one iota. I've never been a serious marketeer, I do a bit of casual marketeering which is enough to keep me well supplied with shiny things. Now if the devs decided they wanted to decrease the price of high end items by increasing the supply (which is the only effective way for them to do it) it wouldn't bother me on a personal level at all. I'd still be able to use the market to make inf to spend on shiny things and the increase in supply of high end stuff would mean I could afford to use it on more characters. To those who say "But my marketeering empire will crumble', trust me, I hear you.
However, that doesn't mean it would be a good thing for the game as a whole. There are plenty of players who enjoy working towards a goal, for them high prices on high end gear mean that it takes them longer to achieve the goal which helps them remain interested for longer. An increase in supply would make them lose interest faster. MMOs tend to have a loot grind of some sort for the simple reason that dangling a carrot in front of a players is the easiest way to keep them playing. CoX is unusual in that the diminishing returns form higher end gear drop off very fast.
If you consider four levels of slotting:
SOs
Fankenslotting (maybe a few cheap sets)
IO Build
High End (Purple/PvPIO build)
The benefit of going from SOs to Frankenslotting is HUGE. Using just dual aspect IOs you get about 50% more enhancement in your powers than a pure SO build. And the best part? A Frankenslotted is about the same price as a SO build (maybe even cheaper if you shop around a bit).
The increase from Frankenslotting to a moderate IO build is smaller but still very nice. Your individual power enhancements don't change much (or even go down a little) but you can add about ~60% global recharge or a decent chunk of defense (there are other options but those are the most popular) without needing to touch Purples of PvPIOs. It's a significant increase in cost over Frankenslotting but well within the capabilities of even a very casual player (especially if they do it over a few months).
The really high end builds are of course the crown jewels of builds. But really what do they add that you can't get with a moderate IO build? Mostly just a bit more recharge and a little more defense. It makes it easier to do crazy things (like soloing AV/GMs or the RWZ challenge) but for general gameplay that level of capability is not required. Most people who pursue this sort of build do it specifically because they WANT to do extreme challenges and for most of them part of the fun is getting the stuff required to do it. -
Sure, and I wasn't intending to imply that the devs SHOULD do that I was just pointing out that if the devs truly wanted to bring down the prices on high end IOs they could easily increase the supply. They haven't so presumably they are fine with the current prices.

Well, I'll point out this IS the market forum. The people who post here are, by and large, the ones who find marketeering an enjoyable part of their gaming experience.

Quote:4) People who want high end enhancers and can't get them.A)Cap all market prices at 250 million. the only people who will cry about this are 1) Farmers 2) China Farmers 3) Farming China Farmers
Take a look at the market history for the Gladiator's Armor +3% Defense IO sometime. Notice how the majority of the time there are zero of them for sale on the market across all levels and both recipes/crafted (occasionally you'll find one but it's pretty rare)? The reason for this is that the "market value" of the IO is considerably higher than 2 billion inf (somewhere around 2.5 to 3 billion if the latest auction threads are a fair judge). As such people leave standing bids for 2 billion on the market just in case someone puts one up for sale there (generally because they don't want to have to go to the trouble of doing an off-market trade) and it can take a very long time for those bids to fill. If the price cap was lowered to 250million anything that currently sells for more than 250million would end up in the same situation: 0 stock on the market, several hundred speculative bids and a need to go off market if you want to buy it soon (probably at a higher price than you would pay now).
Wikipedia has an article on it (unfortunately rather short):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Price_caps
Adding price caps to the market lower than the current ones would make it harder to get items, not easier.
EDIT: If you think the devs should do something to lower prices that's fine, but the best way for them to do that is to increase the supply (through increased drop rates or decreased A-Merit costs) so that the supply/demand ratio is more in-line with where you think it should be. -
I disagree slightly with this. While the devs do not set prices directly they do set the supply of IOs which is a major factor in price. If they had (for example) set the A-Merit price of PvPIOs at 2-5 merits instead of 30 the price would have dropped like a rock.

Quote:There are only two types of IOs that are really expensive Purples and PvPIOs. Even with those very few of them actually go for 2 billion or more. If you want to IO out a character you can do just fine using cheaper more readily available IOs. Plenty of excellent sets can be had for less than 20million an IO (and in most cases quite a bit less than that if you shop around and craft them yourself). Even if you want to splurge and go for higher end sets like Kinetic Combat you'll probably end up spending less than 100 million per IO.I set up a build this weekend while away from the game. I logged in this morning to price the build. Many of the enhancers I were looking at were 2 billion PER ENHANCER. Do the developers really think that people want to play a game that only full time farmers get stuff in? I have 42 months in this game, most of my toons are SO'd, and one, ONE, has a couple billion in it. These things are selling for 2 bill each, so, let me think, I would need to game about 20 years at my current rate to get one toon filled with these things.
Purples and PvPIOs are nice to have and while there are people who have used them to great effect the actual increase in ability for a Purple/PvPIO toon over one using more affordable IOs is small for most content. Unless you're really running the bleeding edge and doing things like soloing AVs/GMs/Pylons you probably don't need them (although it doesn't mean they aren't nice to have).
Also just wanted to comment it's nice to see someone complaining about prices and setting the blame where it belongs rather than on some shadowy market cabal of price fixers... about which I know nothing. -
Not entirely, Damage/Recharge Time is almost as important. You maximum DPS is limited by cast time, that is true but recharge time is also a factor since it impacts how often you can use the heavy hitting attacks as opposed to the lighter filler attacks and as a side issue how many attacks you need to take to fill out your attack chain.
-
The game doesn't display contacts on your map unless they are on your contacts list. For the most part this isn't to bad (since if they aren't on your list they won't talk to you). However I think ti would be nice if two contact types appeared regardless. The first is TF contacts (possibly with a different color) and the second is hazard zone contacts who are the right level for you but you haven't been introduced to.

I can't open them in Mids since I don't have the fitness patch so this is going by eye but I would say the first one.
With CJ, FFG, Maneuvers and Weave you have 37.8% defense to all types and positions. If you add a Steadfast Protection +3% IO to Charged Armor you'll have 40% to everything (it's well worth doing even losing the Aegis slot bonus in the process). Given that level of Defense I would say having a S/L/E Resistance based shield is a LOT more useful than a S/L Defense based shield (of course if you then use set bonuses to increase the defense to softcap levels). The S/L Defense form Mace will but you way over the softcap there which is a nice buffer against debuffs but won't increase you survivability much unless you're getting debuffed. Conversely a S/L/E Resistance shield adds extra survivability to the three most common damage types.
Now, admittedly an AoE immobilize is nice to have but overall I think layered defenses are more useful (although you could technically do Leviathan Mastery and get both assuming you don't have conceptual problems with doing so) -
The I20 pre-beta stuff was pretty vague. Part of the testing was apparently an attack on the BAF designed for 12 to 24 players. Also concept arc for the Mother Mayhem Mercy Hospital. And new tilesets for warehouses (including one with rather cool looking fighter aircraft).
-
I'll be interested to see how this goes. So far the numbers are just about supporting random rolls over direct buys if you ignore the LotG 7.5% (including it blows direct buys completely out of the water but given the low roll count so far it's an anomaly).

Quote:Nah, I just got the pre-download so it's working. I suspect what happened is that the server was overloaded and you couldn't get a connection.I was playing coh and someone mentioned this and when I logged and quit it brought the updater up like it was going to update...came back about 30 mins to an hour later and noticed it didn't download anything...there was an error message but I closed it before I read it (by mistake).
That took place around 11:30 am EST. I played a bit just now and logged out and no auto-launch of the updater....so...it seems they took the pre-download offline.
Now the test server updater appears to be down at the moment. -
For my Bots the one thing I find annoying is the fondness my drones have for Melee. It's useful at lower levels when hey only have 1 attack and are my level or -1 but at higher levels I'd prefer for themt o hang back with the protector bots. Speaking of Protector Bots, given the 3minute cooldown on their seeker drones it would be nice if they used them a bit more intelliently.

I think you mean the 9th, patch day is almost always Tuesday. That being said I would be surprised if it was next week because that would mean no open beta.

Quote:It is acceptable to make up new powers .And I dunno of any other melee attack that involves the assault rifle.
Bayonet Slice: You swing your bayonet in an arc in front of you dealing damage to all foes in front of you.
Melee (Cone, 7ft, 130degrees), Moderate DMG(Lethal), Foe -DEF(All)
Basically a clone of Slice from Broadsword. I opted for an AoE rather than a single target attack for a few reasons. It makes the set slightly AoE heavy compared with other Assault Sets which does fit with the origin (AR is AoE heavy compared to other blast sets) without breaking the general theme of assault sets having short range AoEs. -

Quote:Well it doesn't have to be Flamethrower itself, but I think that's about the stat-line you'd want. If you increased the damage or area much more and I think the recharge would be high enough that it hurts the AoE capability of the set. I still like Flamethrower simply because the ability to mix damage types is useful against heavily resistant enemies.I'll try replacing Full Auto with Flamethrower, but I always, always hated that that was apart of the AR set.
Going from suddenly shooting rifle bullets to shotgun shells was bad, but explainable, throw a flamethrower into the mix and, oi....
Personally the theme never bothered me, I simply view it a miniaturized flamethrower mounted under the barrel. Combi-Flamers are available to several races in Warhammer 40K so I just ported that idea over.
Quote:I'm not giving the Assault set Ignite, as the primary has a potential burn patch, too.
Quote:As for Trip Mine, everyone keeps tellin me it's so bad to give it that, but no one's giving me any suggestions on what to replace it with. -
That actually doesn't help. The prestige per kill is (near as I can tell) independent of level. All that changes if the amount of inf you're losing. You it would (theoretically) be cheaper to pay someone leveling anyway to do so in SG mode since the inf they would lose from being in SG mode is less than the Inf you'd lose farming the same amount of prestige in SG mode.

Quote:Well technically his opinion (that an all Defender team would rock) is perfectly valid, admittedly it's an observation on the order of stating that water is wet but it is valid .So basically Firewasp spouted a bunch of BS about EvE Online that anyone with anything better then a passing knowledge of that MMO knows is total BS to assert why his opinion in this game is valid.
None of his other "achievements" struck me as plausible (despite knowing nothing about the games in question) with the possible exception of the WoW one which basically said they leveled 1-60 in roughly 48 hours. That one merely sounds unlikely, not impossible although given the amount of BS in his posts I tend to discount that as well. It's a pity he never came back though, this thread was awesome. -
Only power I would say is pointless is Acrobatics. FFG provides quite a bit more Hold protection than Acrobatics and you can use a -KB IO to prevent most KB attacks.
You might also skip Pistols. Personally I find it useful to take all three single target blasts but I know a lot of people who skip the first one on Blasters/Corruptors. Since DP has Piercing Rounds you're in a better position to skip the first blast and still have a decent attack chain.
I'd switch Bullet Rain and Empty Clips. Personally I find that the lower Endurance cost and faster recharge of the cone attacks makes them more useful at low levels when slots are scarce.
Regarding Defense I've gone both ways on this. The advantage of ranged is that for a ranged character it's easier to boost with IOs than typed defense and you can take a S/L resistance shield giving you layered defenses. The advantage of S/L defense is that you can almost softcap with SOs (with Maneuvers and CJ taken but not slotted for defense you'll be at about 40%). If you only go for one defense category I'd lean towards S/L simply because Traps spends a lot of time in melee range and S/L covers a decent portion of melee attacks as well as some ranged attacks. One other downside of S/L defense for DP is that it won't stack with the bonus from Hail of Bullets but I would say that's a minor concern.
With Mace Mastery I'd try and take Summon Disruptor if you can just because who doesn't want a robotic spider? Plus with Traps you want to go for high global recharge anyway so you'll tend to get high uptime on it.
