Thanks for the advice folks.
The corr guides are quite old, does that just mean you can't go wrong? -
If I want safety I'l play my bots/ff MM or ss/wp brute They're what I call AFK toons, if I run out of beer in the middle of a fight I can safely go fetch more. Either will still be standing when I return, and the MM's pets will have cleared the room.

I spent my early CoH career playing toons that solo easily, partially of necessity. These days I know more folks, and get invited to lots of teams and task forces.
There's a huge variation in team quality. Sometimes it's because a couple of really skillful, fully purpled guys are on the team. But sometimes, you see a team that hits a lot harder them you'd expect from just browsing Mids builds.
The other day during a Rikti invasion the zone was empty - 1 team of four mid-30s low-40s guys. Sounds mediocre, but we melted them faster then they could 'port in - 2 guys stacking tar pit, a crab with that Tactics On Steroids power, and a fire/something corr. Synergy, baby - wicked debuffs, complementary buffs, and AOE.
I'm looking to make a completely team-oriented toon. Probably something/kin, because /kin is such a joy to team with, and I don't see enough of them.
I'm not looking to be a healer. I want the entire team to SMASH MOAR FACE, and if maximizing team damage requires compromising my own damage that's OK.
sonic/kin looks good, does the -resist help against EBs/GMs?
I wonder about ice/kin and dark/kin. If a good team is steamrolling do critters last long enough for me to notice fewer attacks are hitting or being thrown?
My thoughts re: -defence: if the other wienies can't hit mobs, let them eat yellows. -
If you seriously want to flood the market with salvage, grind AE and do common ticket rolls. I don't know how "big" the redside market is, could a few dedicated guys flood enough salvage into the market to bring it back to normal? 1500 tickets == 187 salvage, how many tickets/hour does a serious farming build earn?

Quote:Clearly bases are a low priority. Expecting busy and/or apathetic devs to read 3 years worth of sticky threads might be ... optimistic. As for low hanging fruit for base improvements, there have been several mentioned in the stickied threads of these very forums. I'm also remembering This Thread started 2 1/2 YEARS AGO.
It comes down to representation and communication.... it used to be much better. We had lists, we had rednames, we were organized... and then we were hit with i13. After that, I pretty much threw my hands up in disgust, and several of our primary players/architects left. Everything since then has had a very distinct feeling of shouting into an large, empty cavern and hearing nothing back but faint echos of vague promises. -
Good discussion here: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...=theft+essence
I won't try to summarize because I'd just get some nuance wrong -
Quote:The MM guides thread has lots of good info on keyboard binds that allow you to micromanage your pets more easily. On that note, how do other would-be tankerminds deal with annoying melee pets that charge into melee? My problem of course, is that the healing and resistance buffs are largely PBAoE, but if I follow them into melee the whole thing wont work s well, since hte build is gearede towards ranged defence, and its unlikely tht I could cap both that and melee without making unacceptable compromises in performance otherwise.

Quote:Bots/FF is hilariously durable, but you sacrifice offense. So what pet class can tank well and heal and what would be a good build/set
It can be boring to play, but you'll have no problem getting up from the comp to fetch another beer in the middle of a fight. By the time you get back you and your minions will still be alive, and everything else will be dead.
I tried the same trick with my new bots/traps, and of course the FFG timed out and I wiped -
Quote:Exactly. However, it would be far more likely for the devs to create new items that fill the major gaps, rather then creating an extra editor for us.
It seems unlikely that bases are going to get serious dev time, but there are some trivially implementable things that could really help base editing.
If I thought anyone in authority actually read this part of the forum, I'd suggest a thread on easily implemented base fixes.
- a selection of bigger "desks" and "crates" to make wall/floor building less annoying
- a nice grid texture for floors, walls, ceilings, to help lay things out while editing
- a stackable safe with a grid texture, for accurate layout
- heck, an object stackable like the safe that was 20 feet tall, with a ruler texture including numbers!
Any of these could be quickly done by an intern in the art department.
Some UI change suggestions:
make a tab of only base-building objects, i.e. stackable safes and crates on the same tab so i'm not constantly flipping around
Suggestions that require a little coding:
Suppose I've just placed SOME_KIND_OF_ITEM. I'd like to be able to hit F1 (or whatever) and have a new SOME_KIND_OF_ITEM pop out on my cursor. You could build walls very quickly, even with today's teeny desks.
-=-=-=-
You folks know a lot more about base building then I, so take the actual suggestions with a grain of salt, but I hope you get the idea. I'd love object grouping and multi-level undo but I know they're not going to get around to that. If we create a well-organized list of low-hanging fruit, maybe they'll take pity on us and throw a few man-hours our way. -
Quote:Yeah, I am doing the tickets->salvage-> inf route.Consider using the AE. You can run mishes there and turn all your tickets into salvage. And there's surely one consistently closer to a market than hero side mishes, which tend to send you all over creation. Scanner mishes aren't as bad, of course.
But even that is more annoying then my usual niche of bargain hunt, buy recipes, buy salvage, whip out portable workstation, craft and list.
The ultimate lazy would be to flip the salvage, but that's a little too much like taking candy from a baby. At least I'm adding new salvage to the supply.
The salvage madness makes some low-margin crafting not worth the bother. I've gotten used to filling my spare slots with today's popular generic IOs listed at cost, it's boring but I might as well make 1-5 million/day off those empty slots as zero. But it kind of depends on reasonable salvage prices buyable in a reasonable time, I'm not going to place overnight bids on fortune salvage to craft a l50 accuracy that lists for 300K. -

Quote:OK I was wrong about not enough profit for time invested. My lowbie cleared 40 million overnight, on top of the 15 or so million made while I was playing her.Noodling around with salvage is quite time consuming for the piddly amount earned, but it's fascinating and horrifying at the same time, and a great way for lowbie alts with no startup cash to marketeer.
I hope the madness ends soon so I can go back to niches that require less running around. -
So I'm checking the redside market to see if salvage has returned to it's senses, and I see the last 5 "fortune"s went for 1-2 million.
I dashed off to AE, rolled some salvage, and by the time I got back someone had spent 5 million for a fortune.
I listed all my salvage rolls, including 10 fortune for 2 million each. I still had slots left, so back to AE for more rolls. 7 of those 2,000,000 inf fortunes sold in the time it took me to fly to AE and back.
I wonder if I'll run out of tickets before the madness stops?

As a relatively new player, I'm not sure they need to make slotting/crafting yet more complicated.
I did figure it out eventually (first ebil post!) but I wonder if the crafting system needs streamlining, not more wrinkles. -
Quote:Yikes, didn't know the low level stuff was that nuts. At the rate stuff was moving an ambitious fellow could probably have picked up the crafting table in a single evening.I got 2 mill for a level 25 End Red, and sold a bunch of them for 700k to 1 mill.
/me kicks myself for not finishing my blueside marketeer's crafting badges -
Quote:Yeah I expected the reverse, I planned to convert my redside AE tickets->salvage->mounds of cash.Seems like there may be a glut of high end salvage from people sk'ing up to more rewarding content. I may pick some up on the cheap so I can craft some common's for all the new 50's.
Fortunately cheap salvage makes it easy to crank out memorized IO recipes for a small (but steady) profit, and I took the chance to grind out a couple more l50 crafting badges at a time when enhancements posted at cost sell right away and doesn't clog a slot for days. -
Quote:I don't know how many base salvage items 1 toon can hold, but it's a lot. I'm carrying 100-ish on one guy in a similar situation.Quick question, is there an un-written rule about salvage? I recently started playing an old character that was in a super group since the group started. When I logged in, I was promoted to the uber leader and all the other toons had not been logged in for about 4 months. the base is pretty complete but the salvage bins are over full with base salvage. one of the bins has 650+ items and the person that placed a large amount of them has not logged in in a couple of years. Would it be in bad form for me to convert all of the base salvage to rare & just fill the racks with that, or is there still a purpose for base salvage?
In my case I inherited the SG from a couple of RL friends, and they mentioned they'd like me to keep it around. -
Question - I'm considering slotting brawl and adding procs to an attack I use every couple of seconds. Brawl recharges very very quickly, and doesn't cost energy, so adding procs should give me lots of free damage, right?
Is anyone else doing this, am I nuts?
My SS/WP brute has had brawl on auto since level 1. I try to let it hit between every second attack. In the early levels I needed an easy way to keep my fury bar topped up and a way to keep from running out of energy. I assumed I'd outgrow the tactic, but it still seems to work for me.
Once I get rolling with a full fury bar and double-stacked rage, unslotted brawl 1-shots bank mish parked cars, and is great for picking off those guys with a little sliver of health left from footstomp.
My toon is getting closer to 50 and has more slots to spare now. (I don't have much cash, or I'd just buy a hecatomb and try it out.) -
OK, have identified the problem -> bad video card.
When I built this rig I also made an identical one for someone else, I borrowed their 7600GT card and everything works fine.
The card works fine under normal load and the fan still spins, maybe the video RAM is going bad or something, can't tell and it's hardly worth troubleshooting since a new, better card would cost all of a hundred bucks.
Now to shop for a new card that still has VGA out and won't blow a 450W power supply... -
OK, I dusted off my long-neglected Vista partition. It's a virgin install, the only things installed are Firefox, CoH, and hours and hours worth of Windows Update stuff.
The crashing still occurs, even in safe mode.
I'm incredibly tempted to run out and buy a new video card to see if that's the problem. -
Quote:Sad to say the problem persists even with sound sliders at zero. The sound looping freeze was very common at one point
...
The way to tell if it's a sound driver conflict is to log into the game. Once into the game open your options and put both the music and sounds sliders to zero. Then start playing.
...
Get back to us with the results. -
Quote:Can't get rid of the Razer stuff, the mouse needs it.Well, you can try deleting or disabling (keep from launching on start-up) the following:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\AppleMobileDeviceService.exe
C:\Program Files\Bonjour\mDNSResponder.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\WgaTray.exe
C:\WINDOWS\RTHDCPL.EXE
E:\xp\Program Files\ClamWin\bin\ClamTray.exe
E:\xp\Program Files\Razer\Lachesis\razerhid.exe
E:\xp\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\ACD Systems\EN\DevDetect.exe
E:\xp\Program Files\Razer\Lachesis\OSD.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe
C:\Program Files\DNA\btdna.exe (really?! a bit torrent running in the background of a 3-D online game?! )
E:\xp\Program Files\Razer\Lachesis\razertra.exe
E:\xp\Program Files\Razer\Lachesis\razerofa.exe
C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe
e:\xp\Program Files\Winamp\winamp.exe
E:\dnload\putty.exe
RTHDCPL.EXE is part of my sound driver.
When I start gaming I tell bittorrent to suspend all torrents, and restart them when I'm done. Incidentally the CoH /netgraph or whatever command shows all green, except for the bigs gaps caused by freezes. Whatever the problem is I'm 99% sure it isn't network or disk.
I'll try killing the itunes junk.
What annoys me is that everything worked fine up until this week, running Firefox/Thunderbird/OpenOffice/whatever in the background didn't hurt performance. -
Quote:Thanks for the suggestions. Was the Nvidia message popping up pertaining to shortage of power? I see nothing alarming running on your computer, the only thing that pops up is your audio drivers being a couple years old.
Also, I looked up your motherboard and it appears it was the first chipset AMD released since the AMD/ATI merger and has onboard ATI video. You may want to make sure that you didn't install an ATI bundle for the chipset and accidentally install an ATI video driver as well. I don't see anything regarding that in your dxdiag, but drivers are a bit crazy sometimes.
It looks like your windows is on the C drive, which only looks to be 6GB with 7% free space. To me that looks problematic. Your pagefile at 6GB also looks a bit odd, since you'll never actually use that much. I don't know if you manually set your pagefile to be that large and partitioned your hard drives accordingly, but it looks a bit funky to me. To defrag properly, most people recommend to have at least 15% free space on the partition/drive being defragged.
The nvidia message was vague. "a problem has occured", don't know if it logs anything anywhere?
Device Manager -> display adapters only shows the nvidia card.
I forced the pagefile to 6GB on a drive with lots of free space, so it never shrinks/grows/moves around on the disk and therefore never gets fragmented.
The C: drive is far too small, and I get popups about free space a lot, but I've been running this way for years and it hasn't caused problems.
The defrag report doesn't list any of the CoH files as being fragmented. I'm not sure that 15% number makes sense with the huge size of modern partitions. I've got ~16GB free and CoH takes up ~3GB, not surprisingy the system was able to defrag the CoH files. -
