half price ! a deal at twice the price!
sign up my alt account!
also I have more that one toon, no really it's true ... really -
My search-fu has failed me.
I seem to recall reading a post a while ago about saving your screen layout and tabs, so when creating new characters you can quickly get your UI setup.
Any help? -

Of all the reasons I can think of for going cross country, this isn't high on the list. Although a drunken debate between Positron and myself would be comedy gold, HBO has shown interest.

You know it's kind of funny that Blizzcon is going to be shown on pay per view this year and they are giving in-game rewards for those who either watch or attend the con. They truly know how to milk every dime out of people.

Yet another reason I am not playing World of Walking
[/ QUOTE ]
They give standard land mounts at lvl 20, epic land mounts at lvl 40, and standard flying at lvl 60 in the next patch. down from 40/60/70.

Was discussing this with a semi-hardcore WoW player, he hated the idea because he had to work for it. I find this funny.

This change really irritates the hell out of me. Bliz goes and pretty much hands crap out to players, makes leveling a complete joke, and then expects me filter through the inept masses to find the few worthy of bringing along to my raids? Thanks but no thanks.
I'd already burnt out on hardcore raiding(yes, I was one of THOSE people) and decided to come back here before hearing about the changes. Makes me even happier to be back home in Paragon City/the Rogue Isles.

But CoX is no different, Travel is a joke here now too. from jet packs, Ouro jumping, mission transport, to full on travel powers at lv 6. I don't list the base transport because it is almost always faster to ouro go to talos and run down the hill. by about 4 seconds for me.
and as far as weeding through the masses ... welcome to the Post-AE weeding

It's why the majority of our SG is leaving to go to Aion.
[/ QUOTE ]
Aion is very pretty, but I will find it interesting to see how a lot of COXers deal with the PvP (or PvPvE as they put it) at the end game. Most other MMOs have PvP fairly integrated, so I see a larger adjustment for CoVers in that aspect. ... But yeah it looks to be a fun game. -

Now for those of you that didn't see sarcasm dripping from my first post, Let me just say the whole point was more/less to point out the glaring inconstancy of the changes the "devs" make in this game. I don't see this level of tweaking and tuning any any other game I have played. I mean changing things like rep cooldown to an effort to keep PVP IOs at a desired level of rarity, which boggles me as they are already the most rare thing in the game.
-
[ QUOTE ]
I have to be redundant apparantly. I have an objection to players that farm pvp badges. That is my opinion and after 5 years of play I highly doubt MY opinion will change. I don't care what other badges people farm .Have at it and a good time to all hunting badges!! I made no "blanket statement" against badging or badgers.
[/ QUOTE ]
Alright, so here's my take, I can and have held my own in PVP both willingly and not so much. I remember the ganking attempts daily while I was grinding out the pillbox badge. Sometimes I would fight back, and win, or lose. Sometimes I would ignore them let them shoot at the back of my head while I did what I wanted to do. (and that's the advantage of being a tank you get to ignore the insistent ones)
HOWEVER badging as the mini-game it is is often about efficiency to goal not the path to get there. If I could have traded pillboxes with a villain when that badge first came out I would have but I missed out on that, so I did it the long way and took out 1000 of them. When i15 launched I got 3 or 4 of the arena badges at log in (3 I think) and in an effort to be efficent I farmed the rest, it has nothing to do with the saintity of PVP or having to prove I am better than some random player. it's about efficent use of time. I know I am better at PVP than someone out there and that is what the badge shows.
So have as low of an opinion of badge hunters as you like, honestly I don't think we care. -
Well now I am really confused. I would have sworn that the devs just took some 80 odd badges away because we were farming them. Now they go and make changes so we can farm badges twice as fast.
These mixed signals they confound me.
Release Notes for Build 19.20090702.2

* Also lowering the rep timer from 10 minutes to 5 minutes.
so now we are getting disruptor twice as fast ! yay!
Also once I put on my tin foil hat, I have to wonder if this PVP IO fix happened a couple weeks after issue to make sure all of us badge hunters rushing to get the arena badges didn't get any drops for our badging efforts. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
makes sense to me. you kill people in zone then you kill another person etc.. the timer will rarely kick in. in arena farming you're screwed. Elegant
[/ QUOTE ]
Unless I'm misunderstanding the system, rep is strictly time-based. I can kill character A at minute 0 and get rep, and kill them again any number of times between then. My first kill after minute 10 (minute 5 after this patch goes live) should give me rep again. I don't believe the rep timer resets after each kill of the same person - if it does, that's probably bad news bears for arena matches in general, not just farmers.
[/ QUOTE ]
Unless it has changed it does reset the timer with every kill. -
aww you took screen shots when you did it, I wish I had thought to do that.

How will the game know if the salvage you sold on the market was the one that dropped or was purchased or given to you or picked up from an SG bin ...
if you bought that salvage at the market for 2.000 and sold it for 1,000 no profit was made.
[ QUOTE ]
Now as far as buying things off of WW/BM...that should not count towards the badge (if I bought something for 20 million influence I don't go back 20 million from progress )....this is not a 2 way street!
[/ QUOTE ]
actually that is not a bad idea and would be a bit harder to farm, tho then it would be just buy something from a friend for 2billion and then sell in back. considering you don't lose badges for once earned .... well... normally unless the devs feel like it ... -
[ QUOTE ]
Just curious, how hard would it be? If I sold something for, let's say, 1,000 influence take away WW's/BM's share of the profit and you're left with, let's say (I don't know off hand what % WW takes..so...), 800 influence. Why can't 800 influence be rewarded to my influence badge(s)? I wouldn't think it'd be that hard to do.
[/ QUOTE ]
but it's not profit if you bought it for 2,000 is it?
ETA:
or say you crafted an enhancement that costs > 1000 to craft
or you bought the salvage for > 1000
etc etc ...

[ QUOTE ]
Hmm, figured something like this would have been fixed by now.
[/ QUOTE ]
datamining show people still in pvp zones, so not a high priority -
[ QUOTE ]
Or maybe they said, "hey we have MA coming out, let's get some badges out there for it!, suggestions?!" and then they thought, "gee we did 'count' type badges before so why "remake the wheel"?" So they made badges and then it occurred to them, "gee, maybe we shouldn't have done that."
[/ QUOTE ]
If it was a mistake now it was a mistake then and should have removed them all, no I still hold that badgers are the scapegoat for all of the MA farming.
[ QUOTE ]
I for one have said it before, but am glad that the devs removed all the tedious badges (especially badges that were for 'testing' missions) and other badges like the HoF or Dev choice ones.
[/ QUOTE ]
and I feel it would have been better to not add any more "tedious" badges, and not remove the ones we already have.
[ QUOTE ]
I would like to get the final 2 influence badges on my main badger but do I ever think that I'll get them? No...
[/ QUOTE ]
I said the same thing 1,915 million if ago, now I say about another month or so.
[ QUOTE ]
Or they could just let WW sells be counted towards the badge progress...that'd be nice
[/ QUOTE ]
maybe if there is a way to track actual profit, but that would be near impossible to do accurately, otherwise it would be hard not to farm, even if you didn't mean to.
[ QUOTE ]
So how/what are the credentials for "hard" badges? I do not think it should be "defeat 50000 mobs" or "heal for x amount". To me, something like the Master of the STF/LRSF is about what the "hard" badges should be; however, there is a caveat to that as well. My problem with the Master of x type of badges is maybe the reqs should be different (not meaning to change them now but in new tfs/sfs). Instead of 0 deaths and no temps, why not have multiple 'ways' of getting the Master of x tf/sf badges?
For instance, you could get the Master of x tf/sf badge by doing 0 deaths and no temp powers or you could get the badge by doing it in 1 hour and 30 mins and no temps and only 3 deaths. Or maybe get the badge by doing "enemies buffed, no inspirations". Just something different but yeah somewhat equal "restrictions". Nothing like, "2 hour time limit" and you get the badge...maybe for some people/teams, doing the tf/sf with enemies buffed and no inspirations (or whatever the reqs may be) would be easier than 0 deaths and no temps.
*shrugs*
[/ QUOTE ]
I have no problems with either "tedious" count badges or "challenge" badges, I would like to see more of both actually. Howver I feel there should be only one "way" to get a badge. Now if say the MotLGTF was say 1 hour and 3 deaths I would ok with that and the MotITF was 40 minutes and no temps sure! but not both for either. -
[ QUOTE ]
Now this I never got (ditching stuff when you quit). When new PvP was rolled out, however, I did get to read some impassioned cases as to why people did it.
As you point out, though, it's easy enough to get it all back, but sheesh.
[/ QUOTE ]
I quit, was never coming back (or so I thought) so what was the point of efectivly deleting all that stuff, so I gave it away, I guess it is just as hard for me to understand not giving it all away... -
I have yet to see a toon cap both to all damage types. maybe I am just missing something...
-
I don't consider myself a marketeer, I have never kept records, or plotted prices of an item over time, generated trending data, etc (Ok, there was that one time I bought a whole lot of luck charms does that count?)
However I do play the game, use what I can sell the rest. and in my time I have ""purpled out" a total of 5 toons (first 2 then I "quit" and gave away all my stuff came back and had my main re-purpled in less than 2 months.) and my main is about to hit 1 billion on hand for the first time ever, mostly because I don't think there is anything left to slot.
You don't have to use their play style I am proof of that (but I bet it is faster). I have made billions, 3/4s of it in the market just dumping crap I collect.
the sense of entitlement I think grows proportionally to the age of the game. Look at travel in this game, it when from having to re board the tram to get to the right zone, to now getting full on travel powers at level 6. as I see it purpleing out your warshade is no different
as I said in another thread the game is real easy, not getting what you want? kill things faster. -
but oddly you do get a second jetpack power/ timer for the shard day job.
-
the wall gets too crowed on infinity, I'll see sometimes as many as 4 toons clamoring for the spawns. I like the shard myself. find a good sized island, and walk in a circle if you get lonely an HVAC heavy makes good company. Sure sometimes they'll spawn at lv 53 or 54 but mostly I see 50s

[ QUOTE ]
Having a "delayed MA badge rollout" scheme might have spared the MA badges from being caught and used as a scapegoat in the general MA farming witchhunt. Hard to say for sure.
Ultimately I think there were only about a dozen MA badges that were truly problematic.
The ones that encouraged "Badging PvP" specifically.
I suppose the Devs decided to ham-fist the other 60 or 70 just to be sure.
[/ QUOTE ]
As I stated in another tread, Badges and badge farming were made the scapegoat for the very different problem of xp/inf farming. They wouldn't fix that problem so they could at least get the very small % of badge farm mission out of AE by removing all the associated badges. The funny (to me at least) part of all this is we badgers had already removed almost all of out badge farm missions with in he first week or so of the issue, and were focusing on how to best advertise and gain votes for hall of fame, and what kind of gift basket to send to get dev's choice. Which even though I did moan a lot about these two badges, I was even trying to work the problem and get them anyway, and in an odd sense enjoying the process of trying to figure out how to get over 900 strangers to play and love my arc.
Now moving forward I am sure badges will all be one off events just like in i15, the only challenge I can foresee is more "master of the" type badges. but it will be hard to add those without making them beyond the grasp of the casual gamer, I mean a sub 30 minute ITF, or a 0 death LGTF would be a cool challenge, but in this softer gentler CoH I fear that may be too hard; and there will be a few that can even show you the math as to how impossible it is. -
I may be missing something basic here, but I didn't take hot feet of chocking cloud on my Frad. I found them to be huge end drains, and begged for me to stay in melee range too long. With the slots that freed up I have cinders and em pluse cycling about every other mob. cinders this one, EP the next, repeat. I am only in melee for a second and then back at a safer distance firing off debuffs and spamming fire cages.

I have a hard time thinking the Devs are having to run their badge designs past a "suit" to get a sign-off. Basically I believe they just completely fumbled the ball on this one. If their 'priorities' for designing badges for a major Issue that probably took them a year or more to develop can't include a few hours of serious brainstorming to realize the consequences of their plans then I think they have at least a few -misguided- priorities at work.
[/ QUOTE ]
You may be right, that would be a simpler answer, and Occam and all .. -
[ QUOTE ]
<QR>
I hate to say it but I seriously believe that if I had been given the task to take the original group of MA badges and analyze their requirements for game balancing issues that I could have come up with something more workable than the Devs did.
[/ QUOTE ]
Almost any of us could have, but then that is becasue we aren't being tasked with other priorites, and/or just having such things dicatated to us. The devs answer to someone, prolly a suit that hasn't ever played the game for more than a few minutes (if that)
[ QUOTE ]
I think I understand the fundamental idea that badges should strike a compromise between being too "easy" and too "hard" to earn. Most of the concepts for these badges were good ones. The problem with most of them involved the range of values it would take to earn the given series of badges. It seems the Devs wanted to make a few new epic level Empaths, Leaders and Immortals out of these which was basically overkill on many levels.
[/ QUOTE ]
I tend to disagree with most on this point, I feel most all of the badges here are too easy to get, and that people say that all badges should be gained based on their style of play, instead of adjusting their style to get the badge. So to that end, I guess be thankful that I don't create badges cause a few would take even people like Burnin Up, hopper, and myself weeks if not a whole month to get unlike the day or two it took to get most of the MA badges we just lost.
[ QUOTE ]
It's too bad the Devs handwaved some kind of vague "we don't like grindy/farmy badges" excuse as a pretense to completely remove all of these badges instead of taking a few hours to think about what was really wrong and make adjustments.
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree, but as state above I also suspect they weren't given a chance to do that. badges were made a scape goat for the xp/inf farming in MA. They couldn't turn off xp/inf, so they took back the badges. *we* all know these are two very different group of players; but in a very general use of the term both badges and inf gathers are "farmers" and farmers had to pay.
[ QUOTE ]
We know the Devs have been willing to reasonably adjust the requirements of badges in the past when needed and have done so with at least 4 or 5 badges I can think of such as Empath and Zookeeper.
[/ QUOTE ]
From my understanding and feel free to correct me if I am wrong, empath was a typo, that became a bit of an inside joke (I remember posi actually chuckled when it was mentioned in an interview), that was eventually corrected. Zookeeper. I think was one of the first times the devs just caved to player complaints, there was no need to lower the requierments, it took very little time to complete the task if you jsut took the time to focus in it, and honestly feel it was a mistake to set the precident that enough [censored] would work.
[ QUOTE ]
Will all new badges be of the "do something once" variety (like the I15 Arena badges) thus making badging a very trivial pursuit from now on?
[/ QUOTE ]
I think this is exactly what is happening, because there has been so much moaning on the boards, and the general level of entitlement any MMO reaches after several years of up time. I mean honestly the whole game has gotten absurdly easy, and badging is just a subset of the game.
