The only 100% fix is to install XP instead of Vista. I was like you and tried all the hotfix and all the test and possible drivers I could come up with and nothing fixed it. So I went back and reinstalled XP and didn't crash once since.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, it will certainly stop the "driver stopped responding" message. Under XP, it will just give a blue screen of death or suddenly reboot your PC. That's not exactly what I would call a 'fix', though.
I'm still not real clear on how new this PC is. Lucenter, have you played a lot of other games on this PC with no problems? I'm starting to wonder if some of the memory on the card might be bad. -
Hey wait, these are still going! I haven't been reading the topic because I just figured you were all still talking about the first one!
Looks like they are still going good but watch the timing. In the 2nd video, I was half done reading Captain C's chat about fillers when suddenly he starts yelling! Remember, some of us folks in more relaxed parts of the world take things slloooowly. (Especially folks who take their nickname from a critter that sleeps about 23 hours a day. ) -

(Although and this might just be thanks to the joys of YouTube, the sound quality at the end gets muffed. A high rez version for download in the Movies section of the ftp.coh.com site might not be amiss.)

Hehe, exactly what I popped in to say. I was going to upload the "real" version to WeGame.
I liked the video, too, though I chaffed a bit at the "first ever" claim. Ryzom's may not have been nearly this good and the game may not be nearly as popular, but they were first. "First MMORPG you would ever want to actually play to offer custom content" works for me. -
Actually, you don't have to install over the top. If you install somewhere else then the Demo Launcher can be told to use that other version instead of Production or Test. You might want to save your registry settings off before installing GvE, it may mess with them.
-
I'm pretty sure it's "fixed." You can find out pretty easy, just make a new Widow, get to level 10, get your additional costume, and see if it's forced to be a normal one.

Welcome to City of Heroes: Golden Age! A game of adventure, guile, and pure cunning. No massive server cluster should be without one!

Love the playful push-up pose

Yes, she's quite... cute.
I'll be in my bunk. -

I went and snagged a video of all Widows Vista's Arachnos costumes. Mostly the one with the buttcape.
[/ QUOTE ]
Nice video. I like your colors. I am curious how you seem to have two Widow costumes though!
[/ QUOTE ]
Thanks! There's 3 actually: white and green, green, and black. (The box colors for home basic, home premium, and ultimate respectively. I've got a professional version on live. I've also got an enterprise version but, as that doesn't actually HAVE a box, I think I better keep pictures of it off the forums. )
In beta it was easy to dupe your costume off. Just set your costume how you like it then, when the game gives you a new costume slot, it starts as a duplicate of the 1st slot. All you have to do is change your first slot instead of your new slot. That worked for a little while when it went to production, too, but only for the second slot.
That would be why only one costume has the new "waist" cape. I can't touch the other ones without them changing into normal costumes. -

Well, sometimes.... those demos are a little dicey. It's pretty common to have one that comes out with crazy timing. Though it's also nice to have the interface out of the way.
P.S. AND the videographers video!!
P.P.S. Like I should talk. I14 is almost out and I'm still not done with the patch notes for I13 in my Updates guide. Arrrrgggg... back to work! -
Not bad at all - music was timed with the action pretty well, which ain't easy to do. But minus points for not giving credit for the music. (Throwing Muses?)

Actually, it came up sometime around when the game came out. Not pretty. Then there was a REALLY huge fight over whether the flag over city hall needed to be lit or not. Pages and pages of it.
No flags. Trust me on this. Not only are there a lot of them to put in, there will be a lot of wear and tear on our moderators that won't ever stop. People who see others wearing flags of countries they don't like are going to be even more tempted to break ToS rules. Think what would have happened to heroes wearing Afghanistani flags soon after 9/11.
I really, strongly advise against doing this. If you do this anyway, make it so only the player wearing the flag can see it while everyone else sees flat grey. -
Actually, the building isn't killing them, it's the drop-dead zone inside the building. That kills all enemies, including the Trick or Treat enemies that are popping out of the doors down in Studio B and the Datastream right now.

Unfortunately, it means no more videos, because all the people that normally make videos will be making mission arcs instead. At least until they hit the mission arc cap. (I think Dark Respite may have already done that. )

It downloaded and unzipped fine but the game still randomly locks up on me with "Not Responding".
[/ QUOTE ]
Hold it there... the GAME locks up on you?
The hotfix is there to help with a timing problem with video drivers. When you get hit by it, the screen goes black (sometimes white) for a few seconds then the game goes away. Down near your clock there's a little message saying the video drivers stopped responding and had to be restarted.
However, you can also have Windows give you that message when the game locks up. Everything stops and, when you click on the game anywhere, you get a message telling you it has stopped responding. Or you bring up Task Manager and find that Cityofheroes.exe is not responding. That's something completely different.
Assuming this is Vista's fault, especially after getting a whole new PC, is pretty insane. New PCs can have all sorts of problems. That's been true since before MS DOS, nevermind Vista. -
You wouldn't believe the price on Dr. Leo's head for rickrolling Lord Recluse himself.
I would believe it, though, which is why I'll be collecting that reward sometime real soon now. -
It's not all that big - the Rikti fly low. But yes, every single city zone has one now. (Except Croatoa - and maybe Strigia, I haven't looked there yet.)
-
Yeah, I14 has a tad more work to do before going live. For one thing, Rikti need to learn to steer!
-
Nice! Love the ending!
Starforce... Starforce... that name..... I seem to remember it from... ZOMG! No! It can't be!!
Zloth's DVD drive suddenly catches on fire
But how!? I saw Starforce go down at the hands of Team Stardock, led by the mighty Brad Wardell! I saw it with my own eyes!! -

I'm using Vista 64 and ALchemy and am not having any problems with it.
[/ QUOTE ]
I get the same as the others, myself. Everything works great until you quit out of the game - then BOOM! It wouldn't be so bad, but you have to do a Verify after each one (or skip the updater).
Are you sure ALchemy is working on City of Heroes, Eislor? If so, what ALchemy settings are you using on it? -
A man with 8 legs? No, wait, he ran away. A man with two noses?
-
Already started a topic on this - and you've posted in it! Silly person!
-
Errr, so what happens when we go live with this and everybody republishes with a new number? Will we need to restart our feedback topics?
-
Arc Name: Zloth's "Stormkind Invasion" (soon to become just The Stormkind Invasion once our global names get put on the arcs)
Arc ID: 2650
Player Faction: Hero
Enemy Factions: Custom, with a few DE and a very few Crey thrown in.
Difficulty Level: Challenging, but no deathtrap. I did most of my testing with my test server Widow who only had Single Origin enhancers.
Synopsis: 5 arc mission: kill-all on a small map, single glowy objective, defeat 2 bosses, destroy 3 objects, defeat 2 bosses and an EB (one EB ally provided)
Estimated Time: One hour, maybe two if you decide to clear all the maps for extra tickets
Links: Tactics and feedback topic. I also tossed together a quick gameplay video that takes place in the last mission. -

this whole problem didnt exist until i12 was dropped.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes it did, though it might not have been happening to you.
According to the hotfix, this is a timing issue. Timing issues are VERY tricky things. They happen when the timing is just right. For instance, if the crash only happens when a certain, rather rare graphics command is sent when the graphics card is calculating the very first pixel of a screen, that would be a timing issue. You can go for hours with no issues then get hit, or you could get hit in the first five seconds. If the timing is such that the game never issues that particular command at that particular time, you'll never get the issue. If I12 (or a video driver that came out near I12) happened to change the speed in either direction, then you could suddenly start getting the error. Another patch could change your timings again so you don't get the problem any more but could cause other people to have the problem.

it is not our comp's and we should not be asked to go through a series of riggamarole to play.
[/ QUOTE ]
If that's the attitude you want to take, I would suggest dropping PC gaming and going for a console. If you want to play the biggest and best games, then you need to be willing to go through that "riggamarole" fairly often.
