That said, throwing up lowball bids for a hundred+ of them is sort of painting the tape...
-
Would you say that you have an "open" relationship? Because I could get in on that.
-
I have to say I'm kinda on seebs' side here.
I see his/her experiment as a way of saying "My observation is that people don't bid creep". And they generally don't. Sellers who post high are not a problem -- you just don't buy from them. But if you are paying more for something than its list price, it's pretty much your own fault. -
I would read this again. And I probably will.
-
Actually, I would guess that without a price cap and with some (admittedly) limited transparency in the marketplace, they would quickly settle out somewhere between 2-3bn. I figure that's around the price point that acquisition through A-merits meets the market.

Dear RNG,
Please stop after "7.5%". Shhhhh (puts finger to RNG's lips), we don't want to hear the rest. -
Quote:This might make sense if you always knew who your counterparty was. But you don't, so anyone else who pays less is making you look bad. And I don't see a way you can make people pay a little extra, you know, for the effort.I know there is a lot of stuff put up for 1 or 5 inf, especially "junk" salvage but I always pay at least what a vendor pays plus a little extra. I want people to put thier salavage up for sale instead of vending it or deleting it.
Really, if you are flipping and paying somebody 11 inf and then selling it for 5000, make it worth thier while to keep you in business and give them the lousy 240 inf extra.
Yeah, I know you can get it for 11 or 10, but you make so much inf that you can easily afford to let them break even.
On an aside, when you tip someone, do you make a really big deal about it? To make sure they know they are being tipped by you? I won't judge, but if I were a betting man ...
I would take the Steelers and the under. -
My world is made up of silver and copper.
To OP: I don't think the marketplace is unbalanced. It's just a simple set of rules that changes from time to time. There are a lot of people who play this game and not all of them can be "The BEST" with builds or IOs or whatever. We don't all need purpled warshades -- the world needs ditchdiggers too. This game is easy enough with SOs.
But my bona fide suggestion to the developers would be to make the "bad" IO sets better. Put in resistance bonuses that are stackable to decent levels. Increase mags of mez, rather than duration of mez. Get rid of debt protection bonuses. Get rid of snipe sets, or at least give them good bonuses. Give the low level sets really good bonuses so that people have to really ask themselves if they want to upgrade from that level 25 capped set that gives 7.5% recharge and 5% smashing resist to a level 50 set that gives you something less but with better accuracy/damage/recharge/etc. -
I would make Friday part of the weekend and give every new baby chocolate eclairs.

Hmm, something like:
I. Random Drops
A. Mob Defeats (Outside AE)
1. Minions/Lts
a. influence
b. prestige (if enabled)
c. inspiration
d. TO/DO/SO
e. Pool A recipe
f. Pool E (costume) recipe
g. Temp Power recipe
h. Tips Mission
i. Incarnate shard (if >=50)
j. Vanguard Merit (if member of Vanguard and mob is Rikti)
k. Purple recipe (if >= 47)
2. Bosses (same as Minions/Lts, plus)
a. Random Rare recipe
B. Mission Complete ...
etc.
I'm sure I missed a few things and goodness knows I wouldn't have the patience to put the whole list together, but yes, I think that sort of thing would be a very good source of information as a guide or a wiki article.
So who wants to organize it? <glances at Peter hopefully> -
OP, you are going to find that prices are nowhere near normally distributed!

Lawrence Bourne III: You said opium was money.
Chung Mee: Money is Money.
Lawrence Bourne III: Well then, what is time again? -
Can anyone tell me what an ambush farm is? Is that anything like a monkey farm?

Quote:Generally, inflation is considered to be "too much money chasing too little stuff" (to paraphrase). With the rate that inf/stuff continues to grow, yes, inflation forever barring some major changes.
If the rate of inf generation is higher than the rate of stuff generation, then prices should rise, and vice versa. I think that inflation is really only going to apply to the really high end stuff from here on out, but that opinion and $2 gets you a cup of coffee at your favorite local chain. -

Quote:I will kiss the girl from Venus. For Science!I think everyone above is being pretty tongue-in-cheek about the idea of people actually cheating at this. At least, I assume so.
In any case, I'm sure that plenty of people would just report their earn/burn figures to you if you asked, especially if it was For Science!
I was not really worrying about cheating. After all, everyone has already won the game (what? you haven't gotten a 50 yet? or 2bn in inf? get to work!). But I am really curious if there were a way to follow a project that would measure the rate of gain of wealth rather than accumulated wealth without any incentive to cheat. I don't doubt that there is a few trillion of cash inf put away. But I'm much more impressed by someone who can generate a trillion rather than burn a trillion they already have.
I, for one, welcome our trillion-burning overlords, but I'd be more impressed by tens-of-billions-burning overlords who come to the challenge! *Note: I am neither of the above. I'm a chump in the inf generation game. I don't even have a billion left on ANY of my characters.* -
Is there a way to start a fresh inf-to-prestige accumulation challenge and monitor it? I ask this mostly out of intellectual curiosity.
I'm interested in earning rate (inf per day, for example) versus accumulated inf. If we could figure out a way to monitor a constant earn/burn rate rather than periodically people blow out their (large) inf stashes, I would find that interesting
I'm having a hard time figuring out how to keep such a contest honest, since it is so easy to exchange inf and items now with no paper trail. -

Quote:It depends on what you are trading and how quickly you turn over inventory and what your style is. If you are making one sale a month, then probably not. If you are making 100 trades a day, I am very impressed!Ha, fair enough. Appreciate the honesty.
Is 20-30 mill profit per sale pretty standard? Should I be able do get more then that consistently?
In general, I have a few spots like that, so I think you are doing just fine. -
Quote:Then you apparently didn't read the SG description, rofl. But no worries you're denial is rich to me.
I suppose some other random group dropped a massive fortune, right after I mentioned I would take up a challenge against the 88's. Of course then they suddenly decided, "hey you mean-n-v, take credit for the implementation, okay ?".
Or maybe... they are market savvy enough to build tremendous wealth in the game, but not one of them ever heard of the market forum and therefore never come here... but of course I know this some how... and can now, without worry of them calling me, out stealz all the creditz.
Or maybe ... [ please feel free to enter in your favorite colorful and wild story, so that i might drink your tears of denial ].
Btw, you have a bit more than 7 mill to make up atm.
Pfft, as far as I know you could have changed the message of the day on an old existing supergroup on Freedom. I will hold off on gnashing and rending until you do this on Virtue from scratch! With screenshots! And progress reports!
And then, there will be gnashing and rending galore! -
Quote:Sure it is, that's why I only sell crafted! Well, that and because i find it a lot easier to store items in enhancement form.I am bidding on recipes because I believe buying crafted enhancements is a rip off
You can get things cheap, or you can get things fast but it's awfully hard to get things fast and cheap. It looks like the mark up for crafted on TOD at that level isn't more than a few mm a piece, so I'd put your bids on the enhancements as well.
Also, it never hurts to throw in some low ball bids on the crafted enhancements. What a lot of people seem to do is see that the recipe is worth a fair amount, then craft it and post it at SELL IT NAO prices on the assumption that someone MUST be bidding a higher amount. I get a lot of enhancements for ridiculously low prices that way. -
Quote:Awesome! Good for you, I'll give you a golf clap when you get #1 on Freedom. I'll even throw in a bn or two.Sounds fun Fulmens. Though the 2 Bill donation won't be necessary. I believe you will need it for your group instead.
The gauntlet is down. In fact the influence has been slowly flowing into the target SG over the last month'ish.
In double fact said target SG has a higher prestige count than the crazy 88's on virtue.
Said SG is not on virtue. Im sure it will be pretty obvious where it is
Looking forward to the competition.
Also note all previous "poser" type posters may officially eat their words.
* Let's get ready to rumblllllllle... *
Now if you ever choose to respond to any of the many challenges offered to you (I personally find it hard to believe you passed up the 'double-dog dare' challenge I offered you.) in this thread and take the #1 spot on Virtue, well then, I'll gnash my teeth like they have never been gnashed before! -
Hmm, I'll see if I can set up a character to farm at 30. But again, it'll cost you...
