    Farewell

Well, it's finally happening. My account is running out and I don't plan to resubscribe.

It's a shame that I don't use any of the new All Access parts, but alas these last few years this has been my forum of choice.
That's why I'm posting this here rather than in City Life. Hopefully nobody objects.

We've had some fun times, talking about geek culture, all the films, tv, comics and (in the old days) video games.
One of my favourite things was coming here and seeing what everyone thought of the latest episodes of Doctor Who. It's funny, when I joined these forums, Doctor Who was still in cancelled status from 1989, and was more or less an internationally unknown cult sci-fi show. Since then I've seen it return to our screens and grow. It gets a good discussion going these days from people all over the globe.

Another big thing these forums (specifically the tech support forums) helped with is selecting and building my various gaming computers over the years. They turned me from someone who only bought pre-mades into someone confident enough to build my own.

And finally, my thoughts on City of Heroes and why I'm leaving.
This is a great game, one of my first MMOs and honestly, the only one that ever caught my attention. It's also one of the best super hero video games in general. However, inevitably, after 7 years, even with all the fantastic content being released, my overall enjoyment of the game has run it's course.
However, I do not regret a single moment of my time playing, from the SG mates I found, to the unfathomably long mega-gaming-athon that was a horrific Dr. Quaterfield Taskforce, to the Hamidon Raids, to hitting my first level 50.
I remember seeing it all, from the first update when capes were introduced, (capes!) To the Hollows and Striga and Croatoa. The remade zones of the Rikti War Zone (née Crash Site) and Faultline. The births of the Rogue Isles and Praetoia.
The original Cryptic studios, being bought, becoming NCNorCal and eventually Paragon Studios
These are all things I shall remember for a long, long time.
So thank you all, from the Developers who made and maintain this game, to the forumites who have chatted with me over the years, you've all made this a thoroughly great 7+ years.

    Goodbye!

  2. Well, the sweat on you will boil, but not in a heat kind of way, but because of pressure. So you won't burn because of that.

He's right about the heat, vacuum does not transmit heat well at all, that's why Thermos flasks have an area of vacuum in them, you'll be dead long before enough heat has radiated away from you for you to die.
The biggest problem on space ships is cooling, not heating.

As I said, the biggest problem is the sun, you'd likely be cooked dead by totally unblocked UV radiation (plus general heat)... or you might suffocate first, no one's ever tried to find out.
  3. He can't survive indeffinitly without oxygen, he just has a longer grace period than humans.
  4. The effects of space are actually exaggerated quite a bit by TV and Films.

Humans can actually survive in space for as long as it takes them to suffocate, which I think is about three minutes iirc.

Now, it won't be a pleasant experience, there'll be swelling everywhere and stuff, but you don't explode or freeze or die instantly.
In fact, the biggest threat is from sunlight, since you don't have the Earth's atmosphere to protect you.

either that or this is gonna be one of the shorter doctor runs...
Regeneration has always been a partially voluntary process, you don't want to end up regenerating if medical help is on hand.
But since most of the times the Doctor Regenerates he is just mere moments from death, a medical solution is usually infeasible.
1: Collapsed, nothing he could do.
2: Forced to regenerate by the Time Lords.
3: Absorbed mass amounts of radiation and almost actually died.
4: Fell from a radio tower which was implies to have been fatal within moments.
5: Poisoned, was already incredibly weak when he got back to the TARDIS.
    6: Was knocked out.
    7: Killed by Earth doctors.
    8: ???
9: Absorbed the Time Vortex, probably no known cure.
10: This is the only one who had time to get fixed, but it could be argued that he was already too far gone, and since his regeneration had already started healing him, it could be argued that it was the only thing stopping him from dying instantly.

Several times in the classic series the Doctor has been show to be able to survive space without to many ill effects, most notably in Four to Doomsday, where the 5th Doctor went from a spaceship to the TARDIS with only a helmet on.
So, to answer your question, at least since 1981.

  8. SPOILERS naturally.

I really enjoyed it, thought it was just a good ol' bit of fun.
I liked the little continuity nods, such as Androzani Major (As seen in The Caves of Androzani, the last 5th Doctor's adventure) as well as a mention of the Forest of Cheem (As seen in the 9th Doctor's second adventure, The End of the World).

The ending was cheesy as hell, but hey, Christmas episodes, whatcha gonna do? Overall, I had fun.
  9. The question is, would it all vanish from their stomachs when he stops focusing?

Remember, digestion takes a while, so even if it was edible, it's still have to be focused on long enough to go into the digestive tract.

The man was killed, wiped from ever having existed, brought back as a plastic man, killed his smoking hot girlfriend girlfriend (she still married him), punched the Doctor, waited 2000 years, kinda died again but got resuscitated, punched Hitler in the face, put Hitler in the closet, can make the Doctor re-evaluate himself, killed his wife again, has absolutely no faith in anything or anyone in the universe and can cope with being electrocuted in the eye like it ain't no thing.

    He's pretty awesome.

No, we're talking about when she came back in Series 4, and the Daleks were setting up their Reality Bomb.

Oh, and if you think she's whiney, you should see some of the companions 5 and 6 had. Moan moan moan, nag nag nag.

As much as I like Amy and Rory, I'm mostly interested in Matt Smith, so many rumours and things but nothing concrete on how long he'll be staying. Hopefully a very long time.

Late 2012 can't get here soon enough.

It's sort of implied they are protected. Or Davros could just be that nuts, this is a guy who said he'd release a virus that would kill all life... a virus that he'd be holding in his hand... just so he could be above the gods.

    As for RTD's stories...
I've warmed to RTD's ridiculousness over the years, just take it for what it is, absolutely ridiculous super camp, with a good helping of pure awesome and a bitter-sweet after-taste.
Also, I can't hate a story that has such a fantastic Davros in it.
  17. I'm pretty sure it was the Daleks that were destroying reality. Also, the Doctor didn't break up with her for her safety, they were forced apart.

Did the person who made that even watch Doctor Who?
  18. I'm currently listening to the missing stories on Audio, but I'm also using the Lost in Time Box set that brings together a bunch of odd episodes they have from missing serials. They have three episodes of the Dalek's Master Plan for instance, which I watched in place of listening to their audio.
  19. Galaxy 4! Finally a surviving episode! That's a brilliant find!
And Episode 2 of Underwater Menace? That might put the story into possible animated reconstruction territory!

It's great to see after all these years new episodes still pop up. Gives me hope for episode 4 of The Tenth Planet (Hartnell's last episode).

This, both old and new series are in the same continuity.

But as others have said, there are ways around the regeneration limit. The Master started stealing bodies, but whether this was a Time Lord function or something he'd managed to cook up on his own is unknown. Of course, he was actually killed in the TV Movie and then brought back to life to fight in the Time War, apparently gaining a new set of regenerations in the process.

Likewise as others have mentioned, he was promised a new set of regenerations in The Five Doctors.

But we have this conversation every time regeneration limits are brought up...

    Holy crap you're right!
  22. I'd always thought that Nemesis was (loosely) based on Doctor Doom, what with his plans within plans, ruler-like stature and replicants so that you can never be sure he really is dead.

You should see the animated movie, if for no other reason than that it is a classic.

If you think these accents are other the top you should try actually going to Scotland, because these are pretty coherent.
