Quote:I opened this file. It isn't even showing all the characters that are still on my server. It lists 11 characters, and my screen is showing 12 characters on Freedom. If your playerslot.txt file is corrupt, it can make characters vanish from your character select screen. Please read this thread and follow its instructions:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=292457
Though the thread addresses a different problem, the cause is the same, and even if it doesn't help, following the steps listed in the thread will not harm your account in any way.
The only thing I can think of other than a patch is I installed Beta Server Saturday, but I don't see how that would affect things.
Edit:
I deleted the file and am currently rechecking all files in the launcher. (crosses fingers). -
Quote:I did check all pages...nothing there. I originally had 2 pages plus 2 slots filled (though a bunch were locked). My entire first page was unlocked...those are the ones that are still there.True, we can not help you here, a petition is in order. However, may I suggest you check all character slots on Freedom, check every page to be sure they didn't get shifted. Also check every server, all slots and pages on those too to be sure they weren't bounced there. Compile a list, to the best if your reckoning, exactly what characters/AT/level/hero-or-villian/etc. and include it to the petition.
Hope you get some assistance and resolution.
I DID petition...first time since returning to PIP status. Got zero response at all. Stayed on for hours today waiting for a response.
As to the others comments...this is most definitely a bug. Just because it hasn't risen before doesn't mean it isn't one. There always is a first report of a bug.
It is IMPOSSIBLE that my password and user name were stolen. IMPOSSIBLE. The user name and password are not shared with any other service (for example, I do not have the same ones anywhere else), my computer is freshly reformatted as of two weeks ago, I have not had a virus in a very long time (so no key logger hack). I reformatted to switch from XP to Win 7.
No one in my house has access to my passwords either, except for me. I write all of my passwords in an address book and keep it locked up until I need it.
I even change my account and game passwords every month (most recently when I reformatted two weeks ago).
This is a bug. Probably the result of the most recent update. -
If you mean only me having access, it is very true. I have a very difficult password involving numbers and letters. I am the only one that knows it.
-
I was offline for a day or so, came back, logged onto Freedom Server...and 10 of my 24 characters are gone. I am the only one that has access to the account.
-
It cannot run on Linux.
-
Actually, they uploaded Sig arc 7 at the same time I think...along with putting new items for sale.
And they nearly always patch on a Tuesday...maybe the fixes just are not ready yet? -
I also find it hard to believe this ever happened. I play every day, and I never once noticed a difference. In fact, I had to use my EXP temp power to increase me exp gain.
My theory is the new experience gain cap neutralized it. -
For the second time in a week...
...I log on and all of my settings are gone. I invert my mouse for gameplay, for example...it is changed to the original setting.
Mouse scroll is reduced. Turn speed is reduced. Window Size increased.
I have saved my settings. Reload what I can (doesn't work on mouse settings though).
I don't know why this is randomly happening. It seems fine...I go to bed, get up the next day and everything is changed again. Happened twice this week. -
I have ultra high speed internet and I am crashing nearly every hour or less while in base edit mode...and I just started rebuilding my base, so it doesn't have a lot of items yet.
Running on XP, 2 GB Ram, 1 GB Video Card.
Have not had ANY issues until this latest update.
I have repatched, did the file check, and even shut down my system and let the CPU cool a while for the heck of it. -
A key point many here are missing...my original question was whether, at tier 9, it is worth being VIP, or better to buy points with that $15 per month.
Buying the points would get over 14,400 points over 12 months...as opposed to 6,300 with VIP.
You would have all the costume packs you bought before freedom...the mutant, science etc.
You would have 12 paragon tokens to use...same as VIP.
Server transfers? I bought 6 a while back..and still have 5.
BIG ALSO:
VIPs cannot buy items on sale that normally come free as a VIP perk...so you cannot plan ahead.
BUT MOST ALSO GLANCED OVER THE SOLUTION I OFFERED.
Give VIPs a 50% discount on the market. It would instantly justify the cost...even if it were given in the form of a discount ticket that could only be used once per month. -
@Hopeling
On your points, you neglected to consider so things...such as tier 9 would mean your widow would be unlocked. Also, by prepaying a year, you still wait on reward tokens, by spending the $15 monthly on points, you get tokens each month.
And then you forgot to consider the vet costumes and the packs you bought before Freedom. In my case, I had all but the wedding pack.
And...although as a VIP you have more slots available...you still have to spend points to unlock them.
And then consider this...buying the items unlocks them permanently, whereas prepaying a year only unlocks them for 14 months. -
Also, another point against VIP...the inability to take advantage of discounted items normally included in a VIP subscription.
For example...a discount on unlocking masterminds (which I would have access to anyway)...in case a person ever needs to go f2p later. -
-
I hadn't really considered the incarnates, but as to the other stuff...you can unlock it all with points.
I tried premium at first...I had 22 character slots. The $15 would buy more...permanently.
Even signature arcs are able to be bought.
So...aside from incarnates and SG creation/rent, I see no point.
Btw...when I was premium before, my incarnate powers worked for some reason.
I still think the 50% discount for VIPers is the solution. -
Quote:Actually, if they color code listings for VIPs...say content a VIP has unlimited access to typed in yellow, they would make it pretty clear. No it's not. I've worked enough customer service to know there would be plenty of people that would be complaining and demanding refunds because they thought they still needed to buy it as VIP's because the market allowed them to make the purchase.
It doesn't matter how many steps and warnings you put in their way before finalizing the purchase, they'll ignore them, buy it, and raise hell afterwards.
Never, ever underestimate customer stupidity.
OR...they could add a tab for VIPers that lists the items they normally get with their subscription...where they can make those purchases.
However...this is on of the reasons it makes no sense to be a VIP anymore. Better to spend the $15 per month on points to permanently unlock content.
(I'm speaking as a tier 9 VIPer pondering this same point presently. -
Actually, "toon" is short for cartoon..which is an animated character...so CoH characters fit the term.
On topic..I don't think there is a best character in this game...if there was, everyone would have that. So balance-wise, there is no best.
Otherwise, everyone has different tastes. I'm partial to melee toons...but I am enjoying my MM a lot.
Blasters don't appeal much to me unless to fit a concept. I'm just not wired to play them well.
I would love to see the build for that rad/sonicdefender though. -
I have played this game since pre-launch beta with the exception of a few financially motivated breaks. I am tier 9. Just to make it clear here are my reasons for playing so long:
A) Comic book geek
I grew up. On Marvel and DC, and I remember games like Freedom Force and The Superhero League of Hoboken. CoH was the bomb and I was a part of the community from just after the announcement of the game...way back in the original forums.
B) Baser on board...
...the one thing that has kept me playing the game has been base-building. But we are a largely ignored community, so I have been tempted many a time to move on.
C) I have a weird view on farming. It took me two years to get my first 50. I did it the right way, did all the missions I was able to do, and I even took the time to get the invention badges. In short, I learned the game in detail.
Since than, I farm SOME of my toons to certain levels...like 25-30. I actually use to hate hitting 50 because a goon use to become useless at 50.
I also have toons I call "slowbies"...toons I turn off exp gain on until they clear all available missions at various levels...so I play on both sides of the fence.
SO THE REASONFOR THIS POST
Lately, I find myself wondering why I am a VIP Subscriber. I am tier 9. Most of the old content is unlocked. I get 400 point to spend in the market as a VIP...monthly. They show up at the END of my subscription month for some reason.
This month I spent a extra $15 on points to spend...and I unlocked more content than I've had access to as a VIP.
So I pose this question..why should I pay $15 per month to be a VIP and still not have access to things like Beast Mastery, Titan Weapons and various costume pieces when I can use that monthly amount to buy permanent access with over 1200 points I would gain monthly???
It makes more sense at present to NOT be VIP.
But, there is a possible solution...give VIPs a 50% discount in the store. That way, our messely 400 points would be enough to buy things like Beast Mastery. It would still give reason to remain VIP.
Cause I have to say...Premium is looking mighty good to me right now. -
Question..
...has anyone else had their "Claim all" button stop working after getting costume pieces with incarnate rewards (from the cantacts in Horoscope)?
Apparently, because the items are intended for level 50s and appear account wide, they prevent "Claim all" from working on toons that are under 50.
On the email interface
would love for it to be fully resizable. Same with the wentworths window.
Beast Mastery
I'm VIP and I'm starting to wonder why.
It seems smarter to us my $15 per month to buy market points to unlock access account wide. As a VIP I only get 400 points per month. I get over 1200 for the same money by purchasing points.
Permanently.
Not to mention I don't get my 400 at the start of a month. Mine come at the end of each subscribed month.
I like the sig arcs...also purchaseable. About the only thing that's not is the ability to create an SG or pay rent...and frankly, after the rev's ignore Basers for so long, I'm wondering why bother? -
Quote:I think it was...until Freedom came out. Many people could not justify the cost in a bad economy.Do you think the game is winding down? Why so?
@MetaFusion
.
.
Now, in my case for example, I am on a monthly fixed income. I'm currently VIP but I went months without being able to play before Freedom came out because I was waiting for disability to kick in.
Ironically, the US Government was unable to pay me all my back pay at once and worked out a 12 month plan, lol.
This game will die down eventually though. Not soon, but eventually. No idea who they'll get to make CoH2, since the debs cannot seem to fix half of CoH1 (such as bases for example).
There have been several attemp5s at besting this game but all have fallen short. Eventually something will come out that's better. DCU came close in some areas. The Marvel project is back on, so who knows? Or it could be some entirely new concept.
Nothing lasts forever. I posted on going F2P with CoH 12 months before it was announced and people called me crazy. -
You lose crafted items IF you already placed them. If they are still in your Personal Inventory (unplaced) I believe you still have them.
I think. -
The room limits only address the number of telepads, don't they? Not the number of Beacons?
-
I went and looked and they look now different, why made me wonder why?
While working through the Signature Arcs, I found this beauty (if it shows up)"
Notice how close it looks to the old one, but is much bigger. So my question is this...why did they not make use of it?
It's not like I enjoy the appearance of the thing (I don't) but to go with no visual change seems lazy when you consider a suitable replacement existed already in the game. -
Quote:So...in the past few years you have gotten tons of content...remade zones, new zones, AE, Incarnates, Signature Arcs and lots of new trials.which is... for lack of a better way to say it, all the more reason for the team to go above and beyond the call of duty to deliver something epic.
Sorry SG, I'm not trying to troll you I just HAVE to put my 2 cents in.
And still, you don't think basers deserve some attention? Really?
Here' the thing...WE PAY TO PLAY as well, so we deserve some catering too. -
Quote:All valid comments, Fire. The AE system is already in place. It is a set of working, fully functional code. A part of that code can be expanded upon.Ok I'm curious. How much work do you think this would be? Who would benefit (be honest... not who could... but who would)? What should be the priority (what doesn't get done to accomplish this)? What's the impact on the play experience of others (servers, instanced missions, etc.)? How much would it contribute to the bottomline? I'm no expert in any of this. But I'd bet real money that the people who are, and are forced to think in these terms... would find a new base system based on the AE "experience" (which isn't Paragon Studios' biggest success story either) would not pass whatever such considerations they use to proceed with development.
Base Raids have been absent a while now. I was never a huge fan of them, but others are. Because of the mapped layout in the system, it's pretty hard to "rig" the system.
As to the servers, you have to understand that Bases are already on a different server. The same would be so for this system.
Using the AE System also opens up a lot more possibilities with refinement of the system. For example, in theory there could be added cross-player-server access...one sg could exist across all servers. That would reduce the need for server transfers.
Using the AE-like system would allow for saving of the base layout.
I'm not saying the concept is perfect...just a starting point to be worked out. Instead of pointing out the ways it will fail...figure out how to fix it so it will work. Contribute.
@Snowglobe
I saw a comment in recent weeks that Personal Housing is not even on the table for the time being. It was on one of the Freedom Friday things on facebook, a comment made by the dev. -
Have the room limits been adjusted????
It would be dumb to have to have the large gp room for two telepads....
