Hey guys,
I just wanted to update a bit on the situation.
At 6 I adjusted my difficulties to -1, x3 + solo bosses. I love it! As said above, the inspirations flow like mad. On that note, I also would love to see those binds you mentioned on the conversions.
At 8 now, and still a great setup. I'll adjust as I level to keep it at my own person sweet spot. When I do end up duoing with this char, I will have to see how that effects things and adjust if needed. -
Thanks a lot guys.
This is exactly the type of information I was hoping for. A set of general recommendations that I can adjust based on my own abilities and build, plus the logic behind them.
I appreciate the prompt and thorough replies, guys.
The only other thing I'm really wondering at this point (which i can easily figure out later on in-game I suppose) is how my solo settings will effect things when I am duoing with my friend, who will most likely have the same solo settings.
Any info on that would be appreciated as well. Or I can figure it out later on when it comes up. Just curious mainly - and the fact that I like to be prepared.
Thanks again,

Hey guys,
I've been gone almost a year and just came back a couple days ago. I see a lot of changes, first and foremost CLAWS 4 BRUTES! WOOT!
Anyways... =D
One of the major changes is the difficulty adjustments. No longer do you just select a 'Level' of diff and go.. It got all complicated =P
I tried to do some searching for a while (Site is REAL slow for me atm) with little luck. So on to my questions..
I am playing a Claws/WP Brute. I will be Soloing and sometimes Duoing with a DM/WP Brute.
I have no idea how to adjust the difficulty stuff now. At least, I need to know what is OPTIMUM.. I saw it mentioned that going to -1 and then a higher X factor is good. Is that the way to go now?
While my character is low level for now, being a new roll, I wanted to state that I am a fairly good player. I don't need things toned down for my lack of skill I should say. Not trying to boast, mind you.. Just setting the stage here.
1) In general, what's a good difficulty setup for a solo brute
2) If it differs by level (just asking for general info, i know it will differ on many factors), what level ranges should i try what diffs
3) Will I need to adjust the settings when I am duoing
I know the best way is to experiment - And i fully plan on doing this. BUT. For the sake of not trying to reinvent the wheel, I'm looking for standards you all have come up with to use as a starting point here.
Thanks in advance for any assistance. It's great to be back.

I have discovered Procs do not suffer from Rage Crash, and can be used to do some damage during the downtime. It's nice to finish someone would got to a life sliver just as you crashed.

Thank you very much for posting that little gem of information. I had no idea.. I, too, hate it when a mob has a sliver of life left and i have to wait until I can do dmg again. I'll be promptly slotting a proc into one of my quick recharging attacks.

From the large Combat Attributes window, right click on a number you'd like to track (like current hp) then select "Monitor this attribute" (or something to that effect). It will pop up the window you see in the screenshot with that attribute. You can monitor up to 10 of them.
You can also reorder / stop monitoring an attribute by right clicking on it in the smaller window.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh wow.. I can even select *which* atts to track. This is crazy cool, thank you for the reply.
I know, such a simple thing.. But it makes me happy since I must monitor so I don't attack while I have a negative 10,000 dmg bonus.

Hey guys, totally unrelated question...
I've seen that smaller window in various screenshots with stats in it, the one near the bottom of his screen.
How do I get that window? I would love to know so that I can monitor my damage bonus without having the entire attribute window open.
Thanks in advance.. that will help me a lot

I'm not so much interested in what powers you took, as how you slotted the powers. This will be great information for me.

So, I recently started a project with Energy Aura. My goal is to make great build while staying under 50 million. So, I've been doing a lot of bronze rolls and getting what I want. I'm almost 43 now with nearly capped defenses and I've only spent about 25 mil. Most of the build is done too. It makes me wonder why EA gets so much flack. Sure, there are some poor powers in the set, but the survivability is fine. It's a late bloomer, like SR. Just my thoughts.
[/ QUOTE ]
Would you be willing to share your build. Sounds like you did some great things for little money. I'm still learning how to maximize return with sets. I'd really like to see what you've done and how you've done it. If you don't have the build in mids or don't want to take the time to put it in, i understand though.
Thanks,

I have a fully IO'd Spines / WP Scrapper...and I love her!
Entirely amazing and a breath to behold in action. Plus...I never run out of endurance! Now, if only my Spines / Fire Scrapper could say the same thing...
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm actually real happy you posted this. I have a Spines/WP scrapper that's only level 24. I've been pondering whether to continue with him or not - especially considering all the projects I have going - and the fact that I don't yet have a level 50 (hit 43 on my DM/WP scrap tonight - woot).
So, it's great to hear that someone really enjoys the combo. Seems solid enough for me, i just wondered if I should have coupled spines with dark or fire sometimes. Course, I can always try that too sometime.

Some primaries look realy cool in mid air combat, others I wasn't so thrilled about. DM, Spines, and Claws all look very cool. Dual Blades looks cool in mid-air but I found lineing up AoEs and Cones to be more difficult. I tried but did not like BS or MA in mid-air, purely for aesthetic reasons.

Air sup and cremate ftw!! Anyone got a pic or a vid on it?
[/ QUOTE ]
Absolutely agree.
I finally made a concept character. It's not original by any means, but I had to start somewhere. I created a half demon female who is always hovering (or flying).
She is FM/WP and the first time I saw the cremate animation I thought it was both hilarious and incredibly cute. Here's a link to a couple of pics that i took after seeing this post.

nope, nothing. watch your combat stats or pay close attention to the orange numbers. you can also use the "healing delivered" channel to show you when you're getting the buff.

Thank you very much for the response. I'll feed that channel into one of my less used windows. I'm just the kind of person that wants to know things are working as intended.

Expensive IO
5 Devastation + Damage or build up proc
[/ QUOTE ]
Quick question - not trying to derail the thread.
Doing this, when the build up procs is there any indication? Does it pop a buff icon in your buffs, or a sound, or anything? I have this on my claws/wp and have yet to notice the proc. I don't do a well enough job watching the damage I do to notice it there.
Thanks for any insight.
Acidon -
Thanks guys!
Other than what was mentioned, i'm going to assume that the rest of my build is fine then.
I appreciate the advice. Also, I have not done *any* TF's.. I pretty much soloed my way up and had no idea what I was missing until recently.
I always take status protection as soon as it's available, so no problem there. I'll make sure my build is friendly to being exemplar'd.
On another note, I used SoW for the first time last night. I have to say that I'm impressed with it. I hopped in the middle of another group of 8 paragon protectors, and being in my scrappy zone, I didn't notice how close the next group of them was. Well all the sudden there's 16 of them on me. That's a little too much damage for my regen (i've been in that situation before), so I hit my SoW button (luckily I remembered I even had it!), and bam! My regen could keep up all the sudden and was promptly filling my health bar. I proceeded to dispatch the pp's and all said and done I didn't die. I didn't even notice the crash to be honest.
So that's my big story.
Since I don't yet have any respecs (since i haven't done any TF's), I'm going to use my second build to redo my build.
Another question, totally unrelated.. I was in the original beta, but didn't play after release until a few months ago (not counting a trial here and there). If I were to activate my beta account, would those characters still be there? I guess I'm asking if they did a wipe before release, I can't honestly remember.
Thanks!

What's the concept behind Laser Beam Eyes? You have such complete control of your body that your eyes now shoot lasers?
[/ QUOTE ]
Concept? CONCEPT?
My concept is that shooting frickin' lasers out of my frickin' eyes is frickin' awesome.
(In practice, I almost always choose the magic origin. Then my answer to ANY question on why I can do something is "It's magic!" So yeah. I shoot magic lasers. Why not? )
[/ QUOTE ]
LOL.. well said.
Concepts can be very touchy. I play mutants exclusively (cuz mutants rule, duh!), so I feel my explanation is just as easy as magic or tech.. an eye mutation allows me to shoot laserz.. yeah.
I can understand the question if you're talking about Natural origin though, which it seems the OP was.. Or at least it would make sense to me that way.
As to how that could happen.. No idear, sorry. -

The most challenging spawn I have tanked was an AE auto-SK to 50 8-man Rikti farming mission. The group lost members slowly as we went through the mish, and was down to only 3 members near the end. Myself, a Warshade, and a MA scrapper, who looked to be SR from what I noticed.

I always love a good scrapper story. Thanks for sharing!

Same here. Thanks for posting that. I really enjoyed reading it.. And I love hearing about scrappers defying the laws of.. well, everything. -
Hey guys,
First of all, thank you for taking me seriously and for the excellent information and advice.
I am definately new to CoX, but not new to MMORPGs. I at least have years of gaming under my belt and I know that's helped me a lot as I level.
I have a second account so that's not an issue. After making this post I created a mission that would auto-sk my alt to 35 (with me being 40) full of paragon protectors. I toned down my hazard level to 3 and went to town. Before I knew it, my alt was level 12 and I had gained almost 2 bubbles of xp. So all in all, things went well.
As for my build, it needs a lot of work. As you can imagine, being my first serious toon I may not have made the best choices. I'm kicking myself for not taking super jump so that the combat jumping would have basically been a freebie. Not that I don't enjoy air superiority.. it helped a lot in the lower levels keeping hard hitters on their butt.
Let me get my build up so I can post it for you all. Just keep in mind it's my first, and I have yet to respec him at all.
Primary Power Set: Dark Melee
Secondary Power Set: Willpower
Power Pool: Fitness
Power Pool: Flight
Power Pool: Leadership

Level 49: [Empty]
I don't have my slotting done in mids. I know I regen 26hp/s base with no mobs near me.
I do believe in all honesty that my slotting is fairly good.
However, I will say that I slotted and planned things for damage, not survivability. Now I am really wishing I had at least tough and combat jumping. I'm starting to think that Assault was a bad idea - at least for what I am now planning on doing with this bad boy.
As I said earlier, I play on invincible when soloing. I don't have a *bad* build I don't think, but I could definately improve on things if I wanted to go with the survival deal instead of pure damage.
Oh, and the Regen? I'm an old school EQ player, and the Fungi Tunic was golden for it's regen. Willpower, along with Health (and stamina) is just awesome for me. I love a lot of regen. I even have one of those regen uniques that add 25% regen. It's slotted into Fast Healing (which has 4 slots so that I could still put 3 health SOs in it).
That said, I have so much to learn. I appreciate the feedback from everyone. You confirmed what I suspected. It doesn't change anything though. And heck, like I said, I had a very successful PL session earlier. And I absolutely happy with it.
I do plan on respecing (i haven't even used my other build yet) for a little more survivability and a little less raw damage. ANY advice in that department would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again guys,
~Acidon
EDIT: Okay I'm definately going to respec. My goals are to gain more survivability yet still do well enough damage to take the enemy down in a reasonable amount of time. I know that sounds *very* broad..
ANY help with my respec as far as powers and/or slotting advice would be very much appreciated. I only want to have to do this once. Thank you very much in advance to anyone who responds. -
Okay, so I'm not 50.. But as a new player, 40 seems hawt.
I have a couple of questions for the masters. First, I watch tankers hop in the middle of a huge mob of mobs. They not only survive, but they solo the whole damn mess.
At my level, I do this as well (with certain mobs), but with some of the same mobs I see them do this, I can sometimes fall short..
I'm just wondering, in a general manner, how scrappers compare to tankers in this regard. I understand that powersets and builds make all the difference, but generally.. Can we pull this off so consistently with whatever mobs are thrown at us?
My scrapper in question is a DM/WP. I love him. I play on Invincible and continue to amaze myself. I can't imagine a more fun AT to be honest.
What I am wondering, down the line, is if my scrapper will be able to PL other chars on my other acct with as much success as the tanker I've seen in action. I mean, here we are, a group, and this guy doesn't need anyone else.
I know my scrapper is like that, and I group sometimes just for the social aspect, but I wonder if I would survive the same level of intensity that he does. I know tankers are supposed to be more survivable - i understand that's what they are there for.
I only ask because after playing for 3 months before finding a powerset combo that i enjoy the most, I am so sick of the 1 to 25 game right now. I know that will change in time and I will want to experience all that again.. maybe.. But if I can skip the 1 to 25 on my future toons by PLing them, all the better. I know some people are against this type of PLing. And to be honest I am against PLing someone to 50 because then they have no idea what they are doing. But if I am PLing another scrapper to 25ish, I'll know what I am doing.
In DAoC, if you have a level 50 char, your other chars can start at level 20.. I think that's a killer system. At least that's how it was in the beginning.. haven't played that for years. In fact I think they increased the level cap since then.. Anyway!
I know I'm gonna get flamed for having such a scatterbrained post.. But that's okay. If I get any info out of this at all it will be worth it.
Essentially, I am asking this:
1) Can a scrapper achieve that type of consistent survivability (Can a Willpwer scrapper achieve it)
I know I'm looking way far in the future. I still have 10 more awesome levels to go to 50 and there is so much more I intend to experience during that time. I am just wondering if I would have to create a tanker and level him to 50 to achieve what I am asking. If so, I doubt I will do it. If so, I will just PL at a slower rate (and that's fine).
To anyone that actually read this entire post, thank you (and wow!). To any that gives me insight/information, I really appreciate it.

One could argue shurikens, smoke bombs, caltrops, nets and the like were the weapons technology of their "day". I look around Paragon and I see cars and trams and skyscrapers....maybe *my* ninja of this modern age would be smart enough to employ modern technology to aid in my quest for spreading good.....even with a silly drone someone crafted for me to help.

This.
Though I fully understand and agree with the idea that *anyone*, regardless of origin, should be able to take just about any power and customize it to their origin or concept.
I understand that this would be quite difficult to do from a code standpoint - therefore I understand why this isn't the way it is.
We all know that what is "right" or "fair" is rarely what "is". So we run with what we have and smile. Right? Yup.

I'd probably go with Dual Blades/Willpower. It's very solid and easy to play without all the clicking effort of Regen. Of course, if you LIKE taking a more active role in your survival, Regen is a great set too.

I second this. I was all about /regen until I finally tried teh /WP .. WP is what I would have imagined Regen should be. So imho, if you want regen, go WP.

I am so envious of you all that create concept characters. I never seem to have any concept I would like to create. I have a great imagination, or so I've been told.
Any suggestions on how to spark something in this regard?
I can only imagine how great it is to level a concept character, working to keep the powers in line with that concept and everything else that goes with it. I can also imagine that people with that ability are much less likely to get burned out on the game itself.
Anyway, I don't mean to go off topic here. I have nothing to offer on topic as I am pretty much a noob around here. I just thought I'd ask this within this thread instead of creating another one.
Good luck on your character, btw. Sounds like a lot of fun.
