That settles it then, I'm voting for Romney. Bring on the zombie apocalypse! Yay!

POPCORN!

On topic, I'll vote on Tuesday because it's my civic duty. I'll walk out of the voting booth more disgusted with this country than when I walked in to it but it's been that way for the majority of the last 20 years for me.

Be well, people of CoH.

Me, but I don't get to vote. If I could it would be against the Zombie Apocalypse.

He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.

Not everyone cares about every fact on everything. So yes, some facts are for kids. Just so happens that 95% of the mess in this thread is all opinion. and that's mine

Fox News has Red Eye. Not exactly the same, but it's frequently funny. Is it as entertaining as the Daily Show or Colbert? No, but it's been on the air for 5 years, so it's working for somebody.

Personally I agree with you but if TLH wants to nitpick I'm happy to rub his/her nose in the funny.

People watch Fox News?

Apparently so, given that they're pulling in enough advertising dollars to keep the station running.

I wouldn't be surprised to learn there's a scientist somewhere conducting an experiment to see if watching Fox News causes brain tumors in chimps.

Yes but Nielson doesn't count chimps. Only humans over the age of 2.

This is a list of the top 25 Cable shows for last week. Nine of them were evening Fox News programs. That said each of two episodes of SpongeBob beat 8 of those shows in overall viewers. So did a show about gold miners in Alaska, Monday night WWE as well as an NBA game (I'm talking only about 8 of the 9 Fox News programs).

Of course other than NFL football and zombies rule.

I'll leave the inevitable comparison between SpongeBob viewers and Fox News viewers for someone else, it's too good of a straight man line for me.

Whose talking about confirmation bias. I'm just facetiously poking fun at the types of some incredibly stupid studies that are being done.

For example the US gov has spent

$492,000 to determine whether or not tweets can be trusted

$168,766 to study monkeys as they throw poop at each other

$700,000 to study cow burps for methane emissions

$216,000 to study why politicians make vague statements

$442,340 studying male prostitutes in Vietnam

$3 million to study World of Warcraft

$175,587 to determine if cocaine makes Japanese quail engage in sexually risky behavior

$500 million on a program that will, among other things, seek to solve the problem of 5-year-old children that "can't sit still" in a kindergarten classroom

$30 million on a program that was designed to help Pakistani farmers produce more mangos

$239,100 to study how Americans use the Internet to find love

$400,000 to find out why gay men in Argentina engage in risky sexual behavior when they are drunk

$800,000 in "stimulus funds" to study the impact of a "genital-washing program" on men in South Africa

And these are just some wierd studies funded by the government. Who knows what wierd things are going on in the public sector.

Pure science is never a wasted investment. You never know what might turn out from something seemingly frivolous.

When I was in college, Senator Proxmire ridiculed everything scientific, including NASA. One study he mocked was that of screwfly mating habits. Turns out that study has saved the US cattle industry more than $20 billion (with a B) to date. A much-derided study on dog urine led directly to treatments for diabetes, something that no one predicted at the time.

So mock all you like, the people who fund these things are smarter than that and they know the payoffs for such tiny investments could be gargantuan. Sure, they don't all pan out, but that's science, brother! You have to seek in order to find!

Yeah that Colorado vote is going to be interesting - every state is going to be watching them - I assume CA in particular.

If you haven't heard, CO is going to legalize marijuana for recreational use.

We'll see how long that lasts against the Great American Moral Crusade(TM). They've already overturned decisions to legalize stuff conservatives don't like in several states.
