My characters and time on Victory

Started playing not too long after launch. A bunch of my Counterstrike buddies were playing here on Victory, though none of them lasted too long. Thankfully, a good friend from college, Kong G. Fuu, joined the game. Unfortunately, he left the game a year or two back.

Met a lot of good people over the years; it's really that what has kept me enjoying the game this much. Really would like to thank everyone who've I've teamed with over the years. Especial thanks to all those who took part in Isolators over the years.

During my time on CoH I've never played on any of the other, lesser servers, besides some limited events. I did level one character to 50 on one of them for one run of Isolators (this was pre-slot expansion) but that character was moved back here as soon as that option became available. All fully io'ed out; purples are generally spread about randomly, all but one tier 4 alphaed, all +3 for Incarnate trials, only a handful with hybrid.

Generally I chose characters/power sets based on your ability to see the character. I always loved and was blown away by the amount of character customization the game allowed you. Also heavy went towards themed sets; fire/fire, ice/ice, etc.

Satanic Hamster;
Invulnerable/mace tanker. First character I ever made. Long term my favorite, enough the Ham-O/ED/Global nerf was a bit depressing for a while. Never took taunt until STF. Also never got into teletanking, even pre-unyielding improvement.

Satanic-Hamster;
Energy/energy blaster. Originally I was making one Satanic Hamster of each AT; this was the only other to survive. Rest never made it past level 18.

Catatomic;
Fire/fire blaster. One of first characters, also long one of my favorites.

Torako;
First and only red side veat. Decided to go with widow instead of soldier because I thought the spider backpack looked cheesey, decided to go the stabby route instead of psi/mind powers.

Te'nar Tushon;
Peacebringer, made shortly after PB's came out and after my first character hit 50. Played with the forms on and off, ended up going pure human. Really wish they'd give mez protection in human form.

Symus;
Claws/wp scrapper. Loved the look of wrist knives.

Suiseiseki;
Grav/rad controller. This was my first controller, created for the old school Hamidon raids. Which were ended/changed by the time this character got to 50. Always loved grav, both the singularities and propel.

Stone Flower;
Earth/cold controller. Debuffing power house. Only made it after they added the crystal option for earth control, other wise the power set looked like crap.

Static Electrikitty;
Elec/elec brute kitty. Made early on but was in storage for a while.

Snow Breeze;
Made this character for Isolators overseas run. Hated it running up, endurance use was horrible and the ice secondary for blasters sucked and is generally useless. One of my favorite blasters at 50, though. Best single target damage of all my blasters and is also a good pocket controller for LGTF and AV's with three Lockdowned single target ranged holds.

SatanicHamsterLeader;
Bots/traps mastermind. Originally made in CoV beta. Took on Positron during the end of Beta event after mocking Synapse. Loved this character though I vowed never to make another mm again (though that changed after the mastermind improvements came into play). One thing I liked most about bots was that, unlike the other MM's, all the pets looked like they went together. Most of the others just looked like a random assortment of ******** who all showed up in the same place.

Rogue Island Fairy;
Elec/storm corruptor. Glad this name wasn't taken. Wish I made it energy blast, though. Elec blast just sucks in general, though visually it's the most awesome of all the blaster sets.

Radiocative;
Rad/rad corruptor.

New Gold Dream;
Arrows/arrows corruptor. Archery can be fun but still seems mediocre over all.

Naru Narusegawa;
MA/regen scrapper. Love MA, awesome damage set.

Miu Matsuoka;
Grav/psi dominator. Love propel. And wormhole. This was another Isolators character. I had phase shift taken for one reason and one reason only; to use on characters that Voodoo's stalker was trying to assassin strike.

Mercury Lamp;
Elec/elec blaster. Kinda dislike this character, just that elec blast is so disappointing.

Matsuri Sakuragi;
Broadsword/will power scrapper. A bit disappointing in BS, animations just feel slow at times.

Man Hamster;
Super strength/elec brute. This is the remake of a level 26ish scrapper I deleted. Hated the hell out of it leveling; just so bad on endurance. The changes to SS and elec armor really turned this character around, though, plus IO'ing.

Makii;
Katana/inv scrapper. Very fun character, one of my best scrappers.

Lost Dream;
Fire/thermal scrapper. This was my first corruptor, hit a brick wall in the upper 30's for a few years. Bad on endurance, hated buffs. IO's really changed this character around. But the big change for me Color Customization. THAT was what brought this character back around for me.

Impy Three;
Storm/elec defender. KB goodness!

Gkika;
Titan/will power brute. Fun character, though I wish there were more titan weapons available.

Garnet Crow;
Dual blade/super reflex scrapper. Probably my best performing scrapper, AWESOME amount of ae damage and massive defense.

Fleeting Instant;
Demons/dark mastermind. Only did this because demons look neat and because of the MM changes. Demons are a bit oversized and over loud. Still confused why they never decided to make a full whip set. Had to drop whips from my final level 50 build, just didn't have the space for it.

Fauxliage;
Beam/devices blaster. Very fun, neat character though I hate ******* redraw.

Elvinae;
Elec/elec dominator. WHY DO I KEEP MAKING ELEC BLAST CHARACTERS, GOD DAMMIT?

Duessa Sabril;
Fire/rad controller. Made after power customization and when I needed more buff characters. Would never have made this character if it wasn't for power customization.

Delerium Trigger;
Axe/shield brute. Hate click based mez protection, though I loved the looks of this character.

Cwen Attez;
Staff/inv scrapper. My only non-50 level character, currently in Isolators. Shame it might not hit 50 and get fully IO'ed and incarnated.

Brittae;
Energy/traps corruptor. Made at the same time as Elvinae.

Afura Mann;
Ill/ff controller. Took it to 50 without using the shields; partly because I hated buffing and partly because I hated Voodoo. Also found this character to be fairly boring; so many encounters where I effectively wasn't doing crap due to a near complete lack of damage. Besides boring pets. :0

Acrasia Sabril;
Dark/dark defender. Made this character at the same time as the other Sabril, needed more buff characters.

Fiona Dae;
Kinetics/sr scrapper. Fun character, though some of the animations are a bit over the top.

Now on the Ending:
This pretty much killed my weekend. Not really sure how to react to it. Funny how news of a game ending can fill me such with indecisiveness. Part of me wants to run a bunch of crap, have fun with characters and friends. Other part of me wants to say screw it and just play other games.

I honestly don't know what to make of NCSofts decision. This really feels like a decision that was made in the last week; ending the game should have been something that was planned six months or a year out. Either their cash flow is so bad and they might be going under entirely or this was the result of some big internal company fight and some exec decided to "win." Otherwise, why waste time on I24, why give Paragon such short notice, why piss off the customer base like this?

I think I may have to do this as well. Too many good characters and cool costumes to just vanish with no record.

On the decision to shut down the game, I agree with you Ham. This should have be planned in advance, and Paragon Studies give more than *instant* notification. Six months is a good wind down time... a year is better! I'd be happy to get I24 out and all the new costumes/powers that were in the pipe (Bio Armor looked great, the Tech Knight Tier 9 costumes looked AMAZING, and based on a Posi comment it sounded like we were close to a MOON ZONE! ).

Screen caps are a good idea. but there are those on here who are working on a 'cold storage' type set up for our characters. Definitely worth looking into.

Honestly, with six months to a year? Even if there was no development I'd still play and make new characters. With this half ***** way of winding down I feel hesitant and uneasy doing anything in game.

Spent a good part of Saturday blowing and slotting 14 billion on purples (might drop another 1-2 billion for the ***** of it). Then spent a good bit of time going through all my characters doing this, getting some good resolution shots of all my costumes.

Note: I have a lot of level 50's with only a single costume slot unlocked or with all five the same. I generally don't change a character after completion. Also, I found that around half my costumes were now "illegal" in some way due to changed costume parts. Pissed me off doing this, don't understand why they "updated" some parts in such a way that it breaks your old costume. And the most annoying part it that it wouldn't just reset the part that has been changed; if one part of your head was changed, your ENTIRE head got randomized, same w/ upper body.

1) Holy crap - I just looked at pictures linked by Shamster. The time must be coming to an end because that'll never happen. Those are the only 50s you had?

2) I was mentioned twice! Mental can't possibly be more heart broken, can he?

3) Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many costume bits/combos blatantly ripped off of me. I knew you were constantly checking me out, but still.

4) Your lack of shielding/buffing/being useful in teams plus your exuberance for mob aggroing/dying and general disregard of tactics certainly helped me play better as I single-handily saved the day on countless occasions for various teams throughout the year. So thank you for sucking?

I took screenshots of all my 50s the other day as well but from the character selector screen. I think maybe 6 of them had something in the bios, while only 3 had some attempt at an actual story, so wasn't really concerned with that aspect. No idea what I'll ever do with any of them.

Everytime I log in and see what I have saved on characters, in AH, in the base all for future builds/characters..........absolutely pisses me the **** off now. Don't know if that feeling is going to go away.

NCSoft is in the red, big time, due to a purchase over in Korea and due to severance paid out to employees they've let go in the merger. Modern corporations tend to think short term and I'm guessing they viewed this as a way to get into the black, even if the game was profitable. (Yeah, cutting a profit source of any source doesn't make sense to me, either.)

There's also unsubstantiated rumors that the engine for the Cryptic Engine is up for renewal, and the corporate overlords running Cryptic either want too much money or just don't want to sell.

Arc# 92382 -- "The S.P.I.D.E.R. and the Tyrant" -- Ninjas! Robots! Praetorians! It's totally epic! Play it now!

Arc # 316340 -- "Husk" -- Azuria loses something, a young woman harbors a dark secret, and the fate of the world is in your hands.

Eh. Thirty-threeish level 50's is good. None of them power leveled. :0

Ended up clearing out nearly all my purples. I was intending to go on a buying spree soon anyways, had a good 15-18 billion saved up.

Yeah. Same here. Just too sad to do anything I think. I've just been flying around the zones aimlessly.

What the hell is the matrix room and where is it?

I've been playing through the Night Ward missions since those are pretty much the only arcs I hadn't done yet. After that....I dunno. Sure I could level some characters, but why get more attached to them when they're gonna up and disappear on me? Maybe I'll run some MA stuff if I can seperate the 'real' stuff from the fire-farm crap.

I went like SatHam did and made screenshots of all of my characters and most of their bios in the ID screen. Will be posting them here or at Unleashed.

How do you get there? Random door in Arena?

Not by any official means. There is a hill way up on monster isle somewhere with a door underneath it. If you log out on the hill, when you log in, you will walk out of the underground door. You then turn on fly, and make your way underneath the map allllll the way back over near the hospital or so. You can see the room from under there. Once you get close to it, you /stuck and it'll pop you into the room. There is no way out, so you have to obo or something out; used to have to recall friend out, but it's easier nowdays.

So what about Warburg then? PM me? >.>

Possibly? That was before my time. We were on dialup in the early days of the game so we didn't start considering online games until our older brother got an apartment with broadband nearby and we could play it there.

As far as Warburg... wot?

yes. That is the "lobby" that you were initially sent to for arena matches. It was redundant or whatever so they stopped using it, but left it there.

For Warburg, you use the same mechanic. There's a door mostly underneath a slope in town somewhere. Do the logout trick and you end up on the underside of that hill, free to farm.

Warburg has a couple really good farming locations (getting behind the blue wall was the best, naturally).

Ya know, that is about the only thing I didn't try. Never occurred to me actually; though I do know that logging out in various places did put me in other various/odd places (mostly tree trunks, half way out of the road, or mostly buried in hills). Just did it to see how stupid the game could be.

Long ago with very limited time to play I'd just roam warburg going after the afk farmers out in the open in the various places. I got ******* at constantly, several times in global channels as well. The people that didn't hide underground well enough were a fun challenge to get to, and I did get an IO or two off of them; being able to aoe attack them above ground, dying, and then auto rezzing a minute later made me smile.

Trying to get in the same area via height-falling, TPing, and a couple of other choice maneuvers only netted me so far, mostly trapped under the rocket. I forgot about it for years until just the other day. Now I know.
