If I'm remembering right, there are some psychic attacks out there that don't have a positional component for whatever reason. Not all of them (most do) but a few. Not enough that it's ever been an issue for my SR scrapper -- if there's a "psi hole" there, it's a very small one.

FUN FACT: That burst of light when you level up is actually the effectiveness escaping from your enhancements all at once.

Probably talking about non-positional psy, like fighting Malaise. I think those are rare enough exceptions that I don't really think of it as a hole.

Edit: I should really learn to refresh long threads before replying.

You can get 84ish by double stacking Active Protection.

You just have to ask, what's worth more to you: 12% DDR or Terrorize and Confuse protection.

On a Tanker, yeah. More like 71ish on a Scrapper/Brute.

...and yeah, it's never been particularly clear why Shield gets protection to the more exotic mezzes. It's thematic for Willpower to resist confusion and fear effects, but why Shield? I'm not complaining, but why Shield?

Cant remember if its Dominate or Blind that does only check on Psy Defense.

I kind of feel that tanks should just get across the board protection from all mez.

Tankers maybe. Not brutes, scrappers and stalkers imo.

Both. Also Mesmerize, both confuses and the AE version of these powers. Also Terrify. God, I hate Terrify on SR. Those lvl 30 Tsoos in St Martial use it, and then they can't hit you for the 20 seconds or so it lasts so you're stuck right there doing nothing.

I fixed that, since the basic Melee toggle in SR grants confuse protection.

And to be honest? I'll take the debuff protection built into my KM/SR, since it includes perception debuff resist, +recharge, +move speed and DDR above and beyond what my MA/SD gets.

Now the fact that my MA/SD can tear through spawns faster than my KM/SR is another matter entirely, but it's not a fair comparison, since the Shield is partly IO'd and the SR is running on SO's.

:edit: I forgot shield got recharge debuff resist in Grant Cover, so I snipped that bit out...

Basically all mind control attacks, even Levitate, are psi-only. Levitate is less common than Mesmerize on critters, but it does show up here and there (Dollface has it, the Coralax Shaper does, and Numina does off the top of my head). Except the Seer version is typed Ranged. No idea why.

Besides Mind Control and Blind which are all typed Psi, almost all versions of Fearsome stare are typed negative only. Unlike Terrify, no damage. Like Terrify, ridiculously long terrorize SR often has to just wait out.

I wouldn't call it rare, insofar as non-positional psi is a significant percentage of all psi damage in the game. Its rare only in the sense that psionic attacks are rare.
