Im new to the game, and i wanna know..
with a free account i can unlock archetypes?? If yes, how??

With a completely free account? No.

However, if you pay money, you can purchase an unlock for the hero and villain EATs on the paragon market.

May I ask why? Because that doesn't seem like a very good reason. You're not going to get everything for free, and I don't get why you would expect to get the more advanced AT options without paying for them in some fashion.

Also, I will gladly debate with you that the servers are far from empty.

Knowing nothing about the game, "being new", how do you qualify that remark?

If Epic archetypes are make it or break it for you, I'm not so sure CoH is for you anyway. Such a small portion of the game and epic doesn't refer to them being "epic" or somehow "better" than other ATs it refers to them having their own specific storyline/contacts.

Plus- you get what you pay for. Wait... No actually you can get quite a lot here for free. Just not everything. The games not dead. The servers aren't dead. The playerbase isn't dead.

If that was all it took for the person to "leave" well... I doubt you will get much of an answer.

Doesn't sound like he actually wanted to play the game in the first place.

He's probably gone over to the 800-Pound Gorilla's forums to ask how his brand-new free account can make a Death Knight.

Attention OP: Paragon Studios is not a charitable organization. They probably won't worry too much about losing a player who's never going to pay anything.

He probably just saw five people standing around Ms. Liberty and assumed that was the entire server population.

Well, being new and a freebie at that, he's probably never played an epic archetype before and knows nothing about them doesn't know how they compare to the free archetypes (or even if he'd enjoy playing the epics at all), but he already knows that the game isn't worth playing without them.

So I suspect he's pretty adept at jumping to conclusions.

Okay, I'll bite. What exactly is an epic archetype?

I ask this being someone who is VIP (paying for membership) and someone who returned after a long absence (who used to know the game well). So I'm not being snide or facetious. I'm curious what they are.

They're special archetypes. They are not "epically powerful", so a lot of people get disappointed by that. They are epic in that they have a storyline attached to them that is supposedly 'epic'. The Kheldians (Hero EATs) actually do have a fairly epic storyline. The Soldiers of Arachnos (Villain EATs)......well, let's just say they don't and leave it at that before I start ranting.

The epic archetypes are Peacebringers, Warshades (for heores), Arachnos Soldiers and Arachnos Widows (for villains). They used to unlock when you got a character to level 50, but I think they changed it to level 20. Free players can't unlock them at all unless they buy the unlock from the market, VIPs still unlock them as normal.

As a side note, I've played this game for 3-1/2 years and I've never rolled an epic archetype. Not one.

Just to note there is no level 20 requirement anymore. A brand new VIP player can create an EAT as their very first character.

The Epic ATs are four special ATs with fixed powersets: Warshades, Peacebringers, Arachnos Soldiers and Arachnos Widows.

As Bill mentioned they are "Epic" not in the sense of being more powerful than the other ATs but in the sense of having a unique story rooted in the game lore.

VIPs can play them for free while premium players have to purchase them.

Sorry about that, I'm just so used to Bill giving the "epic ATs are epic in story not power" speech I just defaulted to assuming it was him, I wasn't paying a huge amount of attention .

Kheldians are epic in the sense that any time one is around, special mobs designed to kill Kheldians show up.
