Rerolling my main, what sets should I use?

My main is a BS/Invuln Scrapper that I've been playing since I3ish. With all the new (and changed) sets out there I've decided it's time for the character to be rebuilt into something better. The concept of the character demands a weapon set and/or shield defense. I'm looking for a powerset combo that is flashy and fun, but has a strong mechanical potential as well. The two that immediately occurred to me where WM/SD and BS/SD but I'm not sure which of those would be more effective. So, Scrapper boards, I ask what some of you might suggest for this project.

I can't suggest a secondary, but Katana is both flashy and from my experience, incredibly fun. Honestly, the character was about the most fun I've ever had in this game.

Goodbye. Not to the game, but the players. Goodbye. Everyone, remember to have fun. That's all I can say.

Shield/StJ?

Not a weapon set, but it certainly looks cool together provided the right shield is picked... which could sort of act as the weapon.

WM/SD is quite good. Fire/SD is also quite good and you can build it weaponish, but the look is kind of fixed.

BS/SD is okay, but not what I'd go with.

On the alternatives list, BS/WP is good, Staff/WP is fantastic, and Mace/Dark can be quite fun.

Hmm, it is basically Broadsword but better. That would make sense. Possibly Kat/Fire or Kat/Dark?

SD works for the concept. He just has to have something in his hands that could be a magical artifact giving him his powers. I could just say he has a ring or amulet or something, but it's such a big part of his backstory I'd prefer that it be plainly visible. I'll give it some thought. I actually haven't played much with Street Justice so I'll have to look into it more and try it out.

I kind of like the idea of Fire/SD visually. Is there a particular synergy there or is it just SD is awesome and Fire is awesome so naturally they are awesome together?

I have also heard good things about KM/SD, though I haven't actually seen one so I'm not sure how the animations look with a shield.

Well, I'm a big fan of Katana/Dark, but the most fun I've had leveling 1-50 was my Broad Sword/Shield. I also love my Fire/Shield, where for fun I went with all sword attacks in melee. You can pull it off with enough recharge and enough recovery, but it won't be there while you're leveling. I don't think there's any huge Fire/Shield synergy, but Shield doesn't really need much survivability added by the primary (unless it's a heal), which is good since Fire gives you none. And Fire can do quite a bit of damage, which is just boosted by Shield.

Edit: My Fire/Shield farming. Since Fire Ball plays a prominent part here, he sometimes puts the sword away, but you get the idea.

I would argue any primary balanced around low damage selfbuffing / high base damage has good synergy with Shield due to AaO. In extreme situations you may be looking at as much as a ~+40% damage increase over the non-Shield version.

...Ok, realistically it is a bit lower than that due to AaO fodder not always capping, BU, procs and eventually incarnate slots.

Mace/Shield gets a lot of kudos from people that I have read not played one myself

I have a Fire/SD and I had over 230 dps on the pylons back before the alphas etc fun set.

Ran an All scrapper ITF and STF with him as well

bs/sd is an extremely iconic combination, and as a result, is extremely good together. It's easy to level, and tops out quite high.

wm/sd is a bit less mitigation than bs/sd, but you get the jaw-dropping clobber and the amazing power of crowd control.

Both are extremely good, build for endurance sustainability, defense, and mow down the crowds.

Do you have titan weapons unlocked might just remake him has a giant weapons guy just can't use /SD with it. May go with TW/Invul.

I'm not a huge fan of TW, the animations aren't that good IMO. Having decided to try two different sets instead of one, I have started a WM/SD. He's only level 8 right now, but so far I've greatly enjoyed one shotting minions left and right. I think I'll enjoy this combo.

I have a WM/Shield and MA/Shield - both basically play the same way.
Pretty good combo. You get the best of both worlds - very good single target damage, combined with decent AOE.

In terms of animations, WM is a bit boring.

I cannot recommend TW, the windup is just too slow. Leveled one up to about level 40, and gave up on him.

I recently decided to make my WM/SD Scrapper my main. I noticed some synergy between AoA and the 3 force feedbacks I plan on slotting my main attacks with. My goal for this build was to get my recharge down as low as possible to chain the main attacks. It's not the best for DPA or anything numberwise like that... just to charge in and rattle off a decent number of attacks with little regard for personal survivability.

Feel free to play around with the build:
