Bio Armor Character Concept Help

Since the moment I heard about a new armor set coming out, I have been excited to play it. However, without seeing exactly how the idea of Bio Armor (formerly Symbiotic Armor and Bio-Organic Armor) was represented, I was hesitant to begin planning a character. Now that I have seen what the powers look like, I definitely know that I want to play it, the potential costume options for the assymetry and the ability to choose which armors give your character extra geometry seem very cool.

There's just one problem: I have no idea what type of character I want to make, and there are a few limitations I have imposed on myself as well which I will explain in a bit.

I knew that I was going to make a Scrapper from the get go... but what kind?

I don't ever have more than one of a given Power Set on my account at any one time if I can help it... so that means my only primary options for this character are War Mace, Broad Sword, or (if I delete an underplayed alt) Fire Melee. With that in mind, what the heck type of character should I make? Hero or Villain? Why does he have his powers, and why does he do what he does with them? Oh, that brings up another character restriction: I only play male characters.

My current character on Beta is a War Mace/Bio Scrap who is a city employee who became infected by some stray toxic waste while doing his job inspecting a length of sewer under Kings Row. After that incident he began growing strange plates of hardened tissue that allowed him to deflect damage! Wielding his trusty wrench, he fights crime as {Placeholder Name}. I am not pleased with the character due to his rather boring "regular dude in an orange vest" costume and somewhat hackneyed backstory.

Any thoughts?

If you make it Broad Sword you can go for a "Failed" Warshade Concept*(**). Get the 'Nictus' Sword of Rommys form ITF or ParaMarket(still there?). I got a Warshade like look on one of my Beta Chars that's Spines/Bio.

*Might work with Fire melee too.

**Depending Hero or Villain.

Hero: When Galaxy City was hit by the 'Coming Storm' you found yourself near deaths door when a Nictus offered you a second chance at life, but do too the fact this Nictus was in GC at the time he too was badly hurt and the fusion did not go normal as for other Warshades.

Villain: A Nictus tried to force a fusion upon a hard working city employee during the chaos of Galaxy City. The resulting fusion has driving them both mad for power and kills Blue Spectrum to try and Absorb his powers.

That's the best i got since i'm running on empty(needs me some pizza). Well if you like feel free to edit the back story till you see fit. Hope you enjoy Bio armor and what ever melee you end up picking.

I would never have thought to go a Nictus angle. I sorta like the idea there for the villain version. I will have to keep that on the list of ideas for sure. Not totally sold on the idea though.

I myself made a spines/bio on beta as a nature origin character choosing thorns options from spines making it mostly green and white. It turns out surprisingly well looking.

You can try claws for a similiar concept.

Martial arts, street justice, kinetic melee (behold the power of photosynthesis :P) can be used without making too much changes on your concept.

Dark melee can be used for a vampiric concept of character especially in later part bio armor effect your foes and with DNA siphon actually fit to concept.

Weapons except katana and dual blade can be used for a gladiator theme since most of set looks like gladiator armors.

For katana and dual blades I don't have really any good ideas except being trained in the way of sword and had a little acident that gave the biological armor (not that others are not cliche's as well but they can be turned into something else too I don't have a particularly good concept for these two however)

Electric melee maybe you are a mutant or mutated into someone produce electricity in your body and your body (or help with science you or a friend) developed bio armor to prevent you go out of control.

For staff fightning only thing that comes to my mind is a Daredevil which had a gamma explosion accident..................yup bad idea :P

Thanks for the ideas, Kangstor, but it seems like most of them are pretty specific to sets I simply won't be playing with Bio Armor (see OP). Oh well, still cogitating on this, methinks I have some time yet.

Fire Melee is shmexy on a Scrapper. I've heard similar things about War Mace on Scrappers, but I already have a Tank with that set and I am currently trying to stick to the same rule you have until I have played every set to 50. So if you're not in love with War Mace, I'd take a gander at Fire Melee...though with a mostly resist set, the +Def of Broadsword Parry is pretty nice. I just really don't like the animations of BS and it plays so much like a bad Katana experience.

EDIT - Oh yeah, concept questions: Well for my Fire Melee/ Shield Defense Scrapper, I went with an escaped Lost mutation experiment who is taking the fight back to the Lost and later Rikti as he learns of their connection. I also ran the arc to get The Savior of Atlas Park badge and wear that title proudly. Bio Armor SCREAMS mutant origin so that's what I'm going to go with on my planned Claws/Bio Brute (or mayhaps scrapper since I have A LOT of brutes), but he's going to go for more the Alex Mercer look from Prototype since that game was a lot of fun and the set really evokes the imagery from it for me. I think pairing the effects from Bio Armor with an 'everyday' outfit makes the most sense. A random thought, I've always like the zombie pieces but never could find a good fit character wise for their use, perhaps a mutated Vahzilok zombie seeking revenge on his creators? Doesn't Warmace have a bone option? That could fit and if you're a RPer make for an interesting experience. Also give a good reason to use the neck bolts if you picked up the halloween costuming. Just a few thoughts I had.

Thanks for some more awesome ideas!

However, I think I have settled this little issue: I took the Nictus idea upthread and ran with it, letting it roll around in my head.

What I came up with is "Void Spectrum," he's part Nictus, part living Shadow Cyst Crystal and part stolen body of Blue Spectrum from the tutorial! He's using the darkest colors I could get to look right for the Bio Armor, and the Mutant pack's sword for Broad Sword, I think he will be a ton of fun to play, here's what he looks like so far:

Nice choice. I had totally forgotten about that weapon model. Looks good together

I love the look and the concept...

Except for the part that he's yoinked Blue Spectrum's body. For one, if the Devs somewhere along the line decided to re-use Spectrum, as they did with the 'Extended tutorial' characters later on, then he's kind of a massive breach of canon (Yes, I know, RPers should shush >_> )

I also think maybe he could use a darker colour on the pattern? Right now it stands out a little too sharply from the others. But the red is great use of the three point rule, so kudos for that

I love the concept you have going on there. I went with a staff/bio armor build with the tintable version of the armor set as close to coral as I could get and a trident for the staff to make Barnacle Bill. With a natural or Magic origin, he could be the defender of Atlantis, or whatever long lost underwater civilization that lies off the coast of Rhode Island. If you bought the halloween costume sets and took the Fish head and other options you could even make a Deep One (Cthulu mythos) or a Kuo-Toa (DnD).

Going the same route...except with some kind of bio hazard/infectious alien disease etc spin.
Thus was created...Staph Infection.

Yes, I have contemplated that eventuality, Techbot... and what I came up with, is that like Khelds use a sort of energy "echo" of forms that they have had, this dude could do similar... after discarding the body.

Of course, that's only *if* the Devs ever decide to use him elsewhere.

Oh, and thanks a lot for the compliment on the costume (I will take the darker color idea into consideration ). That is exactly the "rule" I was trying to apply there.

If you roleplay, maybe even have your character talk to itself like its the demon talking. Maybe even make it at times where the character loses control (and displays all the bio armor) becoming more like the demon. Othertimes, only the arm shows as you fight for control back.

An easy concept is to go War Mace or Broadsword like you said and make your character magical in origin.

"(Your name here) acquired this magic blade (or mace) from XXX location. It turns out the blade is cursed by a powerful demon. The demon fights for control of you and you can see it trying to manifest itself. (Here you could choose for instance just to use the Bio Arm, or maybe a leg or two showing the "demon")"

That's more of a titan weapons idea

Edit:
Actually you COULD go Broadsword with that

I recognize Nightmare... who's the other Anime-lookin' dude?

He's the Slayer from Dungeon Fighter online. Specializes in swords, demon possessed arm(that he doesn't use the sword with). That sort of thing.
