Setting it straight for ALL DOMS
So who called for a nerf and when? Or is this a preemptive anti-nerf strike?
Please buff Ice Control.
Anyone that would suggest that an IO blaster barely makes par is clearly playing with people who have no idea how to play a blaster.
Before this upcoming change to blasters, blasters were awesome in potential. The one weakness is a lack of mez protection. That is easily overcome by playing smart - and really - blasters are not totally mezzed because we can still attack with tier 1 and 2 attacks. If you've played this game enough, look at some players builds and you ask yourself, how does this player do all that with that build? A blaster with just SOs can still play very well and with the right person behind that blaster, if you didn't look at the info, you'd never know whether they had IOs or not. A good player with a solid IO build is seriously going to outshine more than a few scrappers and brutes. Granted, not every blaster is the same, nor is every player. |

To make my point short and sweet, The Blaster being the 'balls to the wall' AT, really shouldn't worry about mezzes. It really interrupts the flow of how a Blaster plays. Blasters should worry about incoming damage.
I dunno. This is simply my opinion and I say in CoH today, where Incarnates run around being as OP as ever.. Blasters really don't scale well in similar situations due to their glaring holes.

Meh, not a problem with the Blaster.. more a problem with the Brute I'd say... Brutes be OP man!
However, with dominators, I'm currently of the opinion that I feel sorry for all of them - but I base this on my own experience with my own dom. Elec/elec. Horribly poor pets -squishy, with a long recharge and weak damage. I haven't given up on the AT - but I have given up on those powersets used together. However, it could be that my play style just doesn't mesh with the strengths of elec/elec. That doesn't mean I think they should change anything. It just means the powersets aren't for me.

Doms are fine. Doms do High-average damage when compared to the heavy hitters: Brutes, Blasters, Scrappers. And have control on top of it. Quasi Support-Damage role so I say apples to oranges. Also, I hate to break it to you but Elec/Elec is atrocious in comparison to say, Ice/Fire or Fire/Psy or Plant/Fire etc. Electric Assault is terrible in terms of damage due to having The Voltaic Fuzzball.. and Zapp and the hilarious Thunderstrike (seriously.. it take 3.5 seconds to use if you include lag time!).
Doms also get mez protection in Domination which is very possible to make perma.
I dunno. Not trying to destroy your arguement I'm just saying that Blasters do have issues... issues that aren't patched up very well with IOs or Incarnate crap like other ATs. Blasters do excellently in 1-50 stuff... but once you factor in IOs and Incarnate stuff, they start to scale worse... similar to Masterminds
Whining about everything since 2006.
Ammo switching for Dual Pistols was my idea:

ST focused would be the problem of course. It makes the road to perma rocky enough that none of my /energy Doms have ever made it there. Doms are the only AT that has access to energy blasts/melee that this is true of.

Energy has Crushing Impacts (2x5 = 10%), Decimations (3x6.25 - 18.75), Sting of the Manticore (7.5%) in the snipe...close to 40% (give or take 5-6%) just from my secondary, and that's not counting purple sets in the primary...I'd question any Dom build being unable to slot 3-4 LOTGs (30% recharge), two or three purple sets (30% recharge) and another 30-50% scattered from regular sets and the Dom set at 8.75%.
Want to nerf your Dom? Strip him or her from all IOs. Do it, play it, watch other players do the same, and come back and post that Dominators, any one of them, should be nerfed. No one, pre-IOs, campaigned for nerfs to Dominators. After IOs is when anyone or any group of players started thinking about nerf to Doms. Yes, IOs make a HUGE difference to ANY AT. For example, if any player wants to nerf ss/fire Brutes, all right, very easy, strip them from the IOs. Play an ss/fire Brute with no IOs, then come back and tell me you still feel they should be nerfed. Strip ANY brute of all IOs, and then come back and talk about how different it is. The reason Brutes and MMs were the most popular BY FAR ATs to play when CoV came out?? Yep, they sucked the least to solo with or play in general in solo mode as well as team. MMs were the easiest to solo play. Stop asking for any nerfs to Dominators. A huge chunk of the reason Dominators can perform really well is because of IOs and incarnates. Before IOs, Dominators had to be buffed, like the Devs did, so their decent damage was done even outside of domination. I still think Dominators are among the least played ATs in the game. If they ever grew to a much larger pool of players, it was, in a significant proportion, thanks to IOs. |
Hybrid ATs not for everyone I guess.
Questions about the game, either side? /t @Neuronia or @Neuronium, with your queries!

I thought for sure the Devs would disallow Perma-Domination when it first appeared... and they didn't... for years, even though they had the chance.
They're fine with perma-dom. They just deal with it by making trial bosses immune to mez.

The only call for nerfs I've seen is for Plant Control, due to Seeds of Confusion mimicking Mind Control's T9 power at level 8 and the overall damage being higher than the other sets. Even then, what most people are asking for is the set to be brought in line with other sets numerically, not huge overall nerfs.
I have to agree with the OP that it is fine for the devs to nerf Seeds of Confusion and Roots because they are not important for making an overpowered dominator, IOs and incarnate powers are what really matters.
Repeat Offenders forever !
Make all IO's available in Paragon Market! NCSoft, the chinese are making BIG money selling influence and other stuff in the game. Best way to stop them = make the paragon market a place to buy all IO's and perhaps other things as well.
IMO among the most self-serving points of view a player can maintain is that there are dozens of powersets, if not entire ATs, in dire need of buffs, and not a single one that should be reeled in. It's a difficult belief to maintain in the face of objectivity: it's the belief that the developers make tons of mistakes, and when they do it always results in a too-bad set, never a too-good one.
The belief that some sets and powers are overpowered is identical to the belief that some sets are underpowered. There is literally no difference except for a belief about how developers should fix the issue. Both agree that mistakes and/or changes to the game have resulted in some sets not performing as they should. The difference is that one viewpoint is based on full disclosure, and the other on grabbing power. I personally consider it somewhat unethical to request changes to power sets while staying mum about sets like Plant Control.
EDIT: I just re-read that and it sounded witchier than I intended. I'm not sure what word I should use instead of "self-serving"--for the record I don't care if players are self serving, since they pay to be here. But it's a POV I hope the developers can see through. One of my biggest bones to pick with CoX design is that unwillingness to nerf when necessary has spiraled power design to some absurd lengths.
PS the power in Plant that unequivocally deserves a nerf is Roots. This is only semi-related to IOs, and only semi-related to Dominators. And by "nerf" we mean "make it obey the rules ALL other AoE immobilizes must follow."
....This thread is still going? Good lord it's like a freakin cockroach that just won't DIE!
Maybe if I use Seeds of Confusion on it...it'll get baffled, wander out into the street and get run over by a semi...or a tank.

That'll do, pig. That'll do.
No one, IMO, is calling for a nerf to all doms. They're saying that one power (Seeds) in one powerset (Plants) is too much, with SOs or IOs, and should be brought in line with the rest. Will it be? Who knows. That's for the Devs to decide, not the players.
But balance issues with a single power does not mean a mandate to nerf all doms, and the only thing that you starting a thread to run around like Chicken Little accomplishes is to make you a target of ridicule. Chill out, let it go, and enjoy your characters.

I don't mind characters in general being slightly overpowered in PvE (this IS a superhero game after all) but I think they could do more to try and reign in the outliers (*cough* Drain Psyche *cough*).

But, I admit, when I do remember it, It can be nuts.
