Primaries w/ skippable powers

Are there any primaries that have 2+ skippable powers? I've found that most of the secondaries i'm interested in have next to no skippable powers so i'm feeling a bit stuck atm.

Here's a quick run through the sets. The powers I say "you could choose not to" are powers I wouldn't skip, but others have. YMMV

Dark Armor: While I like Oppressive Gloom some people skip/hate it. Cloak of Fear is also considered skip-able. If you're not into rez powers Soul Transfer could be a third choice. I only ignore CoF.

Fiery Aura: Lots skip Temperature Protection, and you could choose not take Rise of the Phoenix.

Electric Armor: You could skip Lightning Reflexes and Power Surge.

Ice Armor: Permafrost is considered skip-able, and you could choose not to take Hibernate.

Stone Armor: Brimestone and Crystal could be skipped if you plan on being perma Granite.

Invulnerable: If you're IO'd out pretty well you could skip Unstoppable, and probably Resist Elements.

Shield Defense: Some people don't take Grant Cover or One with the Shield. I like taking both.

Don't know SR on a tank well enough to say, but Elude is iffy in my book.

Willpower: Some people don't take the rez, and you could skip Strength of Will if you wanted to.

Stone, Dark and Invulnerable are probably your three best bets for having two skip-able powers.

As for SR I do have some experience I would say elude and Quickness if u must miss 2, Quickness dose give u some slow res and improves your recharge though.

Willpower's rez blows, and I'm not big on SoW so I'll agree there.

SR on tanks is soft-capped with actual SO's, so yeah, skip Elude. My SR/MA is at something like 62% to all 3 positions with Storm Kick, Weave, and the Steadfast (no set bonuses).

Since they added the debuff protection into the passives, I suggest taking them.

It used to; it's pretty nice now that it gives 15 seconds of Untouchable status.

Willpower is obviously still a fine set with no self-rez, since it did fine for years before the change, but it's a good power now.

Fine, Willpower's rez blows because it doesn't blow (up) like Fire's or Dark's.

Look at me, I stood up.

It still has the 45 seconds of 'exhaustion', however.

Thanks for all the responses. Right now its looking like i'll go FA and drop Temp Protection, Consume, and Burn.

Ahh, please don't skip Burn. Some might argue, but I'd say you're better off going with almost any other set if you're not going to be using Burn. Consume is also very good as well, though you could skip it.

If you must skip 3 from FA, I'd suggest Temp. Protection, Fiery Embrace and Rise of the Phoenix.

Since it looks like I will end up taking Combat Jumping the only downsides I see to dropping burn are the loss of a DoT and maybe slightly weakening my concept.

That's pretty much WHY he urged you not to skip Burn. For a Fire Tanker Burn adds quite a bit of damage.

I will have to agree here. Since they changed burn (removed the fear aspect and front loaded the damage) it is a great power and does a lot of damage.

If I was going to skip powers from Fire I would skip Temp Protection and Rise of the Phoenix. Consume is still a good power, particularly while leveling unless you have your endurance completely under control.

The plus side of Temp Protection and RotP they can both be left untill level 49 as neither requires any slotting. Temp Protection does offer some slow resistance and can be useful if you wanted to save an enhancement slot for slotting the Steadfast Protection +Def enhancement if you are going to build for defence down the line.

If your mouse has greater processing power than your gfx card, the answer is yes.

Is there a reason your looking for a set with multiple skippable powers?

Wait a second both fiery embrace, and consume are not a good choice to skip. 1 consume is a great power when u are running low with end, and/or if u want some more AoE damage. Fiery Embrace is another great power to take for it will increase your damage out put on fire damage and on your secoundary, just like build up dose but with a little more oomph.

Ehhhhh. Temp Protection gives you your resistance to slows, Fiery Embrace is your big damage bonus generator, and who doesn't love a good rez - especially in a defense weak set?

If you absolutely positively have to give up three... I'm not sure why you'd want to roll a tanker but Cloak of Fear, Oppressive Gloom, and I guess the rez can be skipped in Dark.

You'd be better off skipping secondary powers than dropping Burn and Fiery Embrace.

This.

Burn is a HUGE part of a Fire tank's damage output.

And more to the point: The existence of Burn and Fiery Embrace is the entire reason that Fiery Aura is squishier than other mitigation sets.

It makes absolutely zero sense to use a set that gives up survivability for additional damage.....and then skip the damage.

Out of curiosity, what is the secondary you are considering? Because I would all but guarantee there is something in it you can skip in order to keep at least Burn. Consume and Temp Protection are indeed skippable, but if you're going to skip Burn you might as well use a primary that will survive better instead.

Yep. Pretty much this. Really, if you're going to skip three powers from the primary don't grab Fiery Aura as "the best choice".

Why don't you just post your build for us to critique and give advice, before you drop your slow resist, end management tool, and your heavy damage attack?

Right now its down to DB or TW.

This is what i'm thinking for TW atm. Second reason for dropping stuff comes from the need for early knockback protection as i'm planning to take this one through Prae.

I've left out IOs since I don't know if i'll be vip after Oct/Nov.

ok im looking at your build and I see few major problems with it 1 TW is a end hog just like FA. 2 You went red side to take up soul mastery and took darkest night which is also a end hog. 3 you took accro which is also an end hog. 4 you skipped consume, burn, but kept RotP which is the main one we kept saying to skip, but keep at least burn. You could switch 2 powers out to get the other 2, especially since it is an end hog, crushing blow with consume, RotP with burn.

Posted

Its less that i'm going redside for Soul as much as its i'm going redside and Soul is the only appealing option of those 4.

Posted

If, and it's a big if, you have Paragon Points left over you can always buy some KB enhancements from the Paragon Market. You won't need an IO license for those, and they're not all that expensive. That would save you having to get and use Acrobatics.

I'd start the build with Consume with as end heavy as TW is. You can always respec out of it and grab Rise of the Phoenix later if you find that you're not having endurance issues. I would also repeat what others have said and really suggest you keep Burn.
