Kinetic Melee
I've been away from the game for a while (since around... Issue 13 or so? Shield and Willpower were still new), and came back a bit over a month ago.
So many new things! Including Kinetic Melee. A friend put me onto it, and I'm playing a Scrapper using this powerset. I love its feel and animations and that it's basically entirely what I wanted from my old long aborted blapper experiment. (Who's sitting at over 1900 days unplayed. I leave him untouched just to see how high the days unplayed number will go.) Unfortunately I can't find much discussion or information about Kinetic Melee, apart from snippets like, "animations are a bit too long", and, "avoid if you don't like Knockback". Does anybody have any tips or advice on Better Living Through Kinetic Melee? My main interest is how to effectively use Power Siphon. I'm used to the simplicity of Build Up and Focus Chi. |
If your a KM/Shield scrapper you can't use Shield on stalkers so you gotta decide whether losing /Shield is worth it.
Repulsing Torrent is the one to avoid if you dislike kb. The animations aren't too long - they are extravagant so it just seems like it is long.

Depending on your choice of secondary I would reroll that scrapper as a stalker. Every time you crit with the tier 9 power your build up recharges, everytime you use burst from hidden it crits on all enemies it hits making stalkers the ultimate AT for KM. Once I settled on stalkers I went KM/Nin but if I could do it over I would go KM/Energy for the added S/L/E resists

I'm also trying out a stalker with Staff/Nin so yes, I know it's not crazy talk.
(I remember trying a stalker back in the day and ow.)
I've tried Regen with my Kinetic Melee character, and while Regen can be good the concept of it sometimes gets to me. ("Oh no Frostfire just melted my face off! Never mind I'll just regrow it.")
I'm currently trying Fire Armor. Somehow I imagine being on fire doesn't lead well to being hidden. I'll have a look at other secondaries available to Stalkers and see if they suit.
Regarding Power Siphon - should I mostly use it like Build Up, hitting it when I need more to hit and damage? I'm always worried about if the +damage part is going to charge up enough if I'm using it on only one opponent.
EDIT: And Burst from Hidden sounds like lots of fun.

And if the fight won't last that long, look forward into ways to leverage that buff by moving faster before you initially engage.
That said, I'd agree with others who say KM is really good for Stalkers. With the mechanic to get 100% crit on Burst, 100% chance to recharge BU with Concentrated Strike and the ATO which will very often rehide you (depending what attack you put it in) so that you can trigger those odds, it's a pretty involved playstyle.
That said, I still think there's advantages to having a Scrapper with KM too. Like a Brute, you can ramp up damage auras *while* you're pounding things. There's other synergies you can build to leverage too:
-KM has inherently low ToHit bonuses because it lacks BU and only gets 7% ToHit from Power Siphon...so pair it with Invulnerability for the extra ToHit from Invincibility.
-KM has easily leveraged damage buffs which can be oversaturated by more damage buffs (eventually capping)...so pair it with Fiery Aura and its extra fire added on by Fiery Embrace which will also be buffed by Power Siphon.
-Or you can capitalize on that damage buff with more damage buffs via Shield Defense and let loose with buffed up Shield Charge as well.
-Or make up for inherent debuffs (Granite Armor).

There are a lot of stuns in KM. Dark Armor has a PBAoE stun aura in Oppressive Gloom. Stacking stuns on bosses is a beautiful thing...
..., everytime you use burst from hidden it crits on all enemies it hits...

That doesn't change the playstyle advice or other points made, and KM is still good on a Stalker. I'm just trying to keep people from taking Stalker KM only because they think that 100% crit chance on Burst is always going to be there so I don't have to see as many of the inevitable rage posts when it finally gets changed.
it has gone from unconscionable to downright appalling that we have no way of measuring our characters' wetness.

Just throwing this out as a "buyer beware" - the 100% critical chance from hidden on Burst has been publicly acknowledged as a bug by the (at-the-time) lead powers developer, and that stance has been confirmed recently by the current lead powers developer via private message (when I asked if the same treatment could be given to all AoEs prior to the i21 changes).

a bug??? they went through not to long ago and nerfed/normalised the sts and aoes for stalkers which resulted in Fireball losing it's auto critical from hide, your telling me stalkers aren't even supposed to have burst???

How awesome is that
