On the eve of Before Watchmen....
This image shows the books / creative teams, which were important to me.

is anyone going to measure up to the standards of the original series?
no.
So, nice that some creatives will be getting paid, but I won't be contributing to their retirement fund.

Nice job!
So, yeah...
It is super easy for a fan, like me, of Watchmen to not be thrilled with this stuff.
However, I don't see it as anything that comes close to capturing the original work (or even attempting to)...
I prefer to look at things like this as testaments to the great characters and great work that was done. And people, old fans and potential new fans, can enjoy some (hopefully fun, hopefully entertaining... would be nice if they achieve something more, as the original work did) comicbook panels and stories of the brilliant world and the amazing characters of Watchmen.
In the end, it is little different than new comicbooks coming out for Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, et cetera.
Alan Moore's work certainly deserves that level of appreciation. Of course, one could argue, and I could agree, that his work deserved to not be corrupted or tainted, hehe... but, eh... it's only comicbooks!
It's not like his characters didn't make some appearances in the past.
While not a collector or reader... I am certainly curious about these and will have to peruse them some day.
Afterward, I'll probably have a bunch of vitriolic remarks for the lack of quality or the missing of the mark or some such thing... Until then... I'm peacefully okay with it, hehe.
Besides... it's already happened.
While I'm typing this, I already know that I'm lying about being okay with them.
It's late December, and I'm closing the final book of the Before Watchmen run. I'm throwing it against the wall, in anger...
I'm in my old house, reading through the first page of Chapter 4...
It's several weeks before that... my friend is handing me the Watchmen tradepaperback. I silently doubt my friend's words about how great it is...
My mind is racing with excitement as I read about Walter Kovacs...
It's a cool June evening... I'm typing this reply...

... Alan Moore power up his giant bearded mecha and set a course to rampage through Warner Brothers Studios in Hollywood.
That would at least be more interesting than a studio doing a series of prequels without the original creator's input or consent.

Been 'meh' about the whole Watchmen prequel series, don't think I'm going to pick it up.

I don't think that pic is safe for the forums.
The first step in being sane is to admit that you are insane.
Not picking it up, don't care to revisit the Watchmen world. Nothing against any of the creators involved or DC Comics, it just doesn't hold interest for me.

I loved the original series (I still have a well-read, dog-eared copy of the 1st trade paperback).
I liked the movie (even if some of my friends hated it).
I have no interest in this whatsover.

August 31, 2012. A Day that will Live in Infamy. Or Information. Possibly Influence. Well, Inf, anyway. Thank you, Paragon Studios, for what you did, and the enjoyment and camaraderie you brought.
This is houtex, aka Mike, signing off the forums. G'night all. - 10/26/2012
Well... perhaps I was premature about that whole 'signing off' thing... - 11-9-2012

For it or against it, it is here tomorrow. And for the next six months. Unless you are in the UK and have to wait till Friday (due to the Jubilee) for the first book.
Regardless, tomorrow marks the first day of feedback from fans / customers reading an entire issue of a part of Before Watchmen. Smart move by DC to have Darwyn Cook's Minutemen be the first comic on the market - he has a lot of good will built up with the fans which will help if things do not get off to a good start.
Myself, I am looking forward to this. At first I was puzzled by the decision to tell more stories in the Watchmen universe. That is what the stuff at the end of each issue was for, right?
What really sold me on this is the raw talent that DC put on the books. No way could I pass up some of my favorite writers / artists producing new stories in a setting that I loved. Plus, DC asked John Byrne to do a cover for one of the books (which he passed on). That showed me that DC is doing whatever it can to make this a success.
It will be very interesting to see how things turn out....
