The #1 problem with Blasters IMO

Is that they don't have enough thematic secondaries.

Water Blast is sexy and it knows it, but I don't want to use Ice.

A sad EvilGeko is sad.

Just needed to put that out there.

Blasters need Sonic and Radiation Manipulation sets. *nods*

Electricity seems like a good fit. Dark could be recoloured for Water, couldnt it? Pretty much anything except Fire in fact, and even that could have some "four elements" theme to it.

I'm in no big hurry to read the words "You immobilise an opponent by using your control over water" (or Radiation or Sound) in the UI.

I'd much rather see a Martial Arts secondary than something with the same name and secondary effects as an existing primary.

Water/Elec + posi2 badge title = hydroelectric dam. THEMATIC MATCH

...but yeah, more secondaries would be cool.

I'll give this point to EvilGeko: to this date I have not rolled an Energy Melee tanker because there is no Energy Armor for tankers.

I don't always demand that my characters have full thematic sets, but sometimes you just want full theme.

I want to roll a water blast ninja and I think I have a huge problem.
Been wanting a martial arts secondary since forever

Agreed, they should stop this nonsense of releasing sets without counterparts at once! And hurry up and proliferate those that do to the AT's that need them (My scrapper wants Energy Melee!).

It's funny, but I think water would be a better agent for CC effects than Fire.

I can see melting the soles of someones shoes to the pavement (Or as in game creating a big wall of fire around someone), but outside of KB/KD/KU and slow, water doesn't really do much.

I can easily visualize a floating water ball caging an enemy in midair (hold), the enemy turning inside as he would with the Soul Storm power, only with a sphere of water as visual FX.

I can also see a stabilized water sprout keeping you from moving (immob)

You can play with the effects too and soak the enemy in chilling water that makes him shiver, barely able to counter attack (fear with different animation.) Not too far from Stone "Sleeping" foes with Salt Crystals.

I'm sure if you decide you want to make a control set with water, ideas will be the least of the problems. Art would be the biggest one, and perhaps coming up with some uniqueness for the set.

Now that's a great idea.

That is my biggest issue with the AT. Need more options.

They ALL float down here. When you're down here with us, you'll float too!

Is it just me, or is the only "good" secondary Energy?

Well, okay, Devices was good for levelling up, but at higher levels, it's only good for tasering the occasional annoying minions who attach themselves to you.

If there were other secondaries which serve to enhance my primary, and allow some tactical or strategic abilities (like Energy), I'd roll up a lot more blasters.

Thus, am in the same boat as the OP - what on earth to pair with water??

The Martial Arts secondary is such low-hanging fruit, it's practically a root vegetable. All the powers it would need already exist. And Blasters are desperate for non-elemental secondary.

OMG! How like, totally kewl are these characters?!1

Amen to that. With the Devs able to cobble together a set like Darkness Manipulation out of existing powers (mostly), I hope it's only a (very short) matter of time before we get Martial Arts for Blasters.

I think the problem lies in that like Dominator Secondaries, Blaster Manipulation sets are so unique, the Devs would rather spend their time on sets that can be used by lots of ATs rather than on unique ones. However, I do think it's about time Blasters got a few more Secondaries, Dominators too.

Im angry every time this topic comes out again...
Cant believe they didnt made the martial arts secondary, but now more specially since I dont have a damn clue about what secondary for this set.
I want Water blast so bad, but the doubts about the secondary would make me not buying the set at all and that is sad.
Want to roll a water based ninja and so sick of using energy as blaster secondary.

The uniqueness of the set is one definitive issue. Another is that "remixing" it as part of a proliferation effort is not as easy as regular set proliferation either.

At the end of the day even new sets are proliferations with tweaks. Dual Blades was a copy of Claws with many changes stacked on top (why the structure and some end discount "bugs" are still visible.)

So a remix that creates a Martial Manipulation set may be almost as much work as just creating a brand new Manipulation set.

On top is the fact that devs seem a bit reluctant to create a new set that has no unique mechanics. If they made a Martial Manipulation set they may want to design some unique thing for that set.

They can also just toss their hands in the air, copy paste powers and call it a day, but I think they have certain level of pride that pushes them to make something that’s cooler than that.
At the end of the day, they may be more likely to create a Water Manipulation set than a remix of Martial Arts.

All I see when imagining someone trapped in a ball of water is them suddenly realising it is water and just walking out of it. At least fire hurts.

I can see landing a huge column of water on someone to keep them pinned though.

Hopefully you never get the ability to manipulate water in the real world because you would entirely waste that ability.

Someone inside water starts swimming; you just move the water around inside the sphere so he can’t move. Swimming is achieved by propelling yourself in a direction and is heavily impaired by current (if you attempt to swim against it.)

All you, as a trained water manipulating mutant, needs to do is make that water sphere be constantly rotating and steering in multiple directions, making swimming impossible (and also resulting in the character rotation I suggested above.)

Posted

Yeah, but at that point you're also manipulating gravity, so "water manipulation" isn't completely accurate anyway.

Call it water bending then
