Aliens and Star Wars (1977) marked the beginning of modern Sci-Fi movie. These two movies, especially Aliens, have more realistic imagery than the 50s and 60s. Star Wars had more "realistic" spaceships, and Aliens continued the trend to where we now see hyper-realism in film.

The retro set is clearly placed in the 50s-60s, not the late 70s to early 80s. This means stuff like Jetsons (cartoon), and "B" movies of the 50s & 60s ( take your pick, though I really want a dive helmet and a gorilla suit ). Ranging from great Sci Fi (Fantastic Voyage, Forbidden Planet, This Island Earth, or When Worlds Collide) to the absurd (Killer Shrews, Robot Monster, Santa vs. the Martians, and Plan 9 from Outer Space), the 50s & 60s had plenty of inspiration to draw from to market this set. If they wanted to use modern media, Space Channel 5 or Planet 51 come to mind as having more connection than Prometheus or Aliens.

Personally, I would vote for 2001 (1968) as the movie that kicked off the "modern" Sci-Fi movie.

H: Blaster 50, Defender 50, Tank 50, Scrapper 50, Controller 50, PB 50, WS 50
V: Brute 50, Corruptor 50, MM 50, Dominator 50, Stalker 50, AW 50, AS 50
Top 4: Controller, Brute, Scrapper, Corruptor
Bottom 4: (Peacebringer) way below everything else, Mastermind, Dominator, Blaster

I can see that. Which makes taking inspiration from Aliens/Prometheus even more silly.

The film adaptation of H.G Wells, The War of the Worlds, 1953, kicked off the 'modern' Sci-Fi movie, imo. I think retro in this case means 1950's sci-fi stuff.

There is always a lot to be thankful for, if you take the time to look. For example, I'm sitting here thinking how nice it is that wrinkles don't hurt. ~Author Unknown

Forgive me if I don't understand, but where is the bubble glass helmet that was shown in the promotion pictures with the Sci-Fi Retro Costume Set. When I add to the shopping cart, and just before purchase, I see all the items except the bubble helmet.

Did I miss something or am I to purchase that separately?

Thanks in advance...

Regards,

TB

Thank you for the response and help pointer. It is actually under Standard Full Masks and Detail 3...

Not being picky, just helping others that might have had the same issue I had.

Thanks again Dink

Ah, technically that'd be Detail 2 under Standard Heads and Detail 3 under Full Masks.
Both of those being the bottom head detail (where breathers and beards and such go).

Anyway you can get these and the brain-in-a-bottle (think tank parts) combined? I'd like to mix and match between the two head/detail sets.

-*sigh* and my Ice/Ice troller is becoming more and more "Mr. Freeze" than "Professor Iceflow" with every passing day... weird how the subconscious works (I didn't realize how closely the concepts were, until I thought "hey, the head in the bubble would be perfect, instead of the brain and the eyes!" and then realized the obvious connection).
