Beam rifle - Too slow?
I have similar experiences... I really like the concept and look of Beam Rifle but eventually I just scrapped the character and went back to my fire/time.
The redraw was the biggest issue for me, on my fire/time I can freely switch between primary and secondary with no delay, but on beam/time it was a pain and I found myself keeping from using /time powers as much as I could.
I know it's probobly not what you want to hear, but I'd just play a fire/time instead.
Awesome single target damage, awesome AoE, no redraw, and you will always be a very active part in making the enemies melt away.
Yeah I really want to like BR... But I experienced the very problem as you...
The Blast Sets are in chaos and I thought BR would be okay since it was new -- eh not the case

Yeah. I like Beam Rifle solo and on small teams...but on most big teams you've gotta be quick on the buttons to keep up, and avoid the longer animating attacks. It's kind of a bummer.
I play my Beam Rifle like a Stalker. Picking off hard Targets. I have passive sets for both of my BR sets so I have no issues on team but yeah I couldn't imagine playing BR with time...heck Time, much like kin is busy as well, let alone adding a set that needs the user to be super attentive to who they blast.
Play it in a team with a melee toon. The melee toon distracts the enemies while you power up your beams and such. Worked pretty great even in First Ward for me.

The only combo I would use with beam rifle, or any weapon set, would be /ice or /sonic because they're pretty passive. Never would I go with anything else because of the constant weapon redraw that would be involved.
I'm currently working a beam/ice up to 50. Beam has -regeneration if you hit enemies with disintegrate attacks and has -res and -def. Ice has plenty of -reg, -def, and -res. Together it's got tons of AV killing awesomeness.

I didn't see this mentioned, but if you are not getting a volley off on a team before they are all dead, perhaps - the difficulty should be increased

I will admit, I'm not the biggest fan of redraw, so I would not pair Beam with Time, but that doesn't mean it can't work. As for not using your disintegrate mechanic, I would stop worrying about the spreading and be happy with the added damage on single targets. Against an AV with disintegrate and Scourge, you ought to be tearing it to pieces. Take solace in that.
Also, I agree with Tater Todd. Start with the bosses. Burn them down. If your disintegrate spreads and you hurt more mobs, great. If not, oh well, you'll still toast the boss quickly.
Bye, everybody!

Redraw isn't really the issue - the attacks take awhile to animate and apply. Redraw just adds a little to it, unfortunately.
I feel your pain - I have a lev 53 Beam/Poison.

I rerolled my main to FF/BR and do not regret it. Many of the games better powers lean on DoT's already so I don't worry about the small delays. Once you get rolling shooting at something it's just aesthetics and math, and BR excells at both.
+1 for up the difficulty and/or pick out hard targets.

Theres a HUGE difference between having a delay then dealing damaging and dealing immediate damage then having a dot...

I don't understand what you're saying, DreadShinobi. You don't lose damage or animation time, it's just the hit is delayed a tic. You still do full damage per shot. What you're chaining is irrelevant because animation times aren't affected and redraw is not unique to BR.
I get that it could just bother some people, but I don't get how it's a handicap unless the stuff you're shooting at is dying so fast you're not contributing. In which case they didn't need to invite another damage dealer anyway and you should be using your secondary set more.
Re-draw has no effect on DPS.
BR requires precision to use properly. If you try to play BR like an AoE machine you are probably doing it wrong. In a way like trying to use AR primarily single target instead of AoE.

The only power that I think is a bit too slow is Disintegrate, nearly 2s. I treat this power like some sort of "Hex" or "Curse" like you see in other games. You put the curse on the target and then the following attacks have stronger effects. This means I constantly put new Disintegrate on different targets.
I would rather trade a bit less DoT damage from Disintegrate but a much faster activation time.
Blaster's raw damage is also a lot higher and sometimes the main target dies before any disintegration happens.
Overall, I play my Beam Blaster like a hard-hitting range Stalker. It's not everyone's cut of tea but its ST damage is truly high.
What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.

I have a Beam/Time guy called Pocket Watch. I like him a lot but ive been finding that in teams, beam rifle is just too damn slow.
By the time ive got disintergration off, the mobs already dead most times, and I certainly dont have time to spread the disintergration to the rest of the mob. If I concentrate of just doing damage instead of disintergrating them, it takes ages for the animation to kick off. With Cutting beam, he seems to wait for a few seconds before shooting and sweeping with the gun and the other cone takes ages for the charge to build up. Overcharge is ok, and blasts the whole group, as are the regular blasts but they still dont compaire to the speed of other toons that kill most of the mob before I make a contribution.
I tend to focus on using my timey wimey powers and the first two blasts, but I dont feel im using the foundation of the toon, the disintergration mechanic.
Anyone else have this problem? Anyone know if the devs plan on speeding this set up? I would personally like to see them removing disintergration and allowing all attacks a chance of causing it. Stick a build up in there instead.
