Cold Domination?

Any word on them porting this over to the masterminds? It would be an amazing set for any MM primary.

I've been waiting for it ever since they started porting powers to other ATs.

I've been like "Wooo will happen. It's inevitable! .... Wooo......... Wooo.............................................. ..............................................Wooo ............................... (years pass) ...................................... Ok so when is this gonna happen already?"

I came across this reference (Community Manager forum post) by happenstance. While no specific mention of the set, the last section might suggest that there is hope cold will eventually be ported over.

It's high time that this set is proliferated.

It will happen, eventually, yes, and when it does it will be the final nail in Force Fields' coffin. The only reason to ever play FF over Cold when both are an option will be concept; the personal mez protection and slightly better defense just can't compare to the massive debuffing power of Cold.

As well as Cold, they still need to port Radiation Emission and Kinetics.

Cold would be nice on a mastermind. For me, I found Cold effective but so boring. Supremely boring. Getting a Fire/Cold controller to 50 was the second most boring I ever made, my level 43 earth/cold (deleted) being most boring.

But masterminds never bore me. Especially thugs. I think thugs/cold would be so fun. I think merc/cold would be too, due to not ever having to see their drab uniforms again, thanks to the shields.

Agree all the way - now I'm lusting for a Necro/cold based off the film Dead Snow. EIN ZWEI DIE!

Please Dev's - make it so...

I will take /Cold domination over /FF any day!!!

I am not a big fan of /radiation but hey, the more the merrier.

What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.

I'm just here to /sign this. I very much look forward to a /Cold MM.

The only problem I see with the port is the +health buff. It is static, not a percent, so it could wind up doubling your pets' health. Might need to be taken down a few notches. Pets with double health running around, as well as soft capped defense and ridiculous debuffs? No more force field, ever, unless you really hate the ice shields' looks.

I don't get it.

I would take Cold for my bots. Oh, so very delicious.

Maybe porting over Cold would also prompt them to give FF the 'Gravity Control' treatment, and update it for the modern game, as well.

/hope springs eternal

53 Bots/FF/Mace Mastermind | 53 NRG/FF/Electricity Defender | 50 Time/Dual Pistols/Soul Defender | 50 Demons/FF/Mace Mastermind | 51 Necro/Dark/Soul Mastermind | 50 Thugs/Time/Mace Mastermind | 50 Ice/Ice/Arctic Tanker | 50 Plant/Rad/Earth Controller | 50 Illusion/Trick Arrow Controller | 50 Gravity/Force Field Controller
Yes, I like Force Fields.

Just fyi, I FWd my Bots to see the results. They are:

FW = 1044.09

Assault Bot

963.81 no FW
1445.71 with FW

Prot Bot

768.83 no FW
1153.24 with FW

Drones

574.95 no FW
862.43 with FW

So, very nice buff. Not exactly doubling but it is a big help. I've tended to skip FW on the other Cold Dom toons I've made for the other 3 ATs, but I'm pretty sure I'd take it for a MM.

Yeah- the tagline is pretty mangled, mixing the German numerals with and English ending. Think 'die' as in "we're all gonna die."

Edit: it's easier to read on the movie poster. The dripping blood helps the interpretation ...

You think /cold is boring?? Try playing Force Fields. The only way that I got my bot/ff to 50 is back when I use to RP he'd stand around reading a new paper or eating a sandwich making sarcastic comments while the rest of the team fought. Was the only thing that made him interesting enough to stick with until 50.

I love force fields. I have 300 levels in level 50 force fielders alone. Some of them are controllers, but still. Love it.

While I wouldn't sneer at a FF upgrade, see my tagline

Wish I knew how the math works here. How does Frostwork get reduced for each pet tier, rather than providing a static buff?

It's fairly simple actually.

Buffed HP = Min(max HP cap, (Base HP + Σ HP bonuses + Frostworks))

So the numbers 1445.71, 1153.24 and 862.43 represents the max HP caps for each tier of pets. Also, these numbers are all 50% higher than the base HP for each tier.

I'm thinking a Cold Dom MM jumps to the front of the class...

If the buff values are the same as for trollers (and they should be since Thermal and FF shields are identical to MMs), then a Cold MM with Shields + Fog + Maneuvers + 5% EoM IO would provide a smidge over 32% def to all. 2 - 6 pets (depending on recharge and diligence) with capped HP. A cherry on top of 15% f/c/e resists are buffs that should make any pet set sturdy.

Then add the debuffs, even Snow Storm would be quite helpful to a MM to mitigate scatter, some Aid Other/ Aid Self and wow... Make it happen!!!

God forbid there ever be a use for Frostworks.

?

Do you mean as a primary, or secondary?

Summoning Ice elementals and a Jack Frost could be pretty spiffy.
Elemental control would be a pretty sweet mastermind set no matter whether earth, air, fire, or water. Heck they could re-use models and drop all 4 at the same time as a bundle.

hehe... you pretty much sum up why /cold hasn't made it here yet. :P

I am actually not a fan of radiation. I think it's a bit harder to control and lure anchor with MMs. I find it annoying to babysit anchor or when people kill the anchors too quick. Don't get me wrong, I know it's a great debuff set but it is just not my cup of tea.

/Cold domination, on the other hand, can nail /FF to the coffin, although I will miss the mez protection from Dispersion. Dispersion is probably the only thing that saves /FF. When they change single shield buff to group buff, I thought they would only do it for /FF and /Sonic. I am surprised they made /Thermal and /Cold even better. Oh and /Kin too... T_T

Maybe they'd just turn it into some sort of heal instead?

When the changes to single target buff sets were made, they weren't made to make them more powerful, they were made to make them less obnoxious to play, especially in huge groups of players. Those changes were made in the half-issue update following the introduction of Leagues and Incarnate Trials to the game. Let me tell you from personal experience that casting two buffs on six pets and twenty four players, one at a time, is unbearable.

Re:Frostwork, I see no reason to adjust a targeted buff when it's ported to Masterminds. It's not like people can't already Frostwork a Mastermind's pets for them if so inclined.

If they really had a problem with the +HP aspect it would be simplicity itself to change it to +regeneration. But really, the +HP means that a boss pet would take three hits to kill in an incarnate trial instead of 2. Really not a big deal.
