I wouldn't be surprised if the new project is a spiritual successor to CoH -- a superhero game but one not set in the CoH universe so they are free to depict it however they like without having to carry over lore/baggage from CoH.
The old videos remind me how much I dislike the way interiors in the game now are almost entirely divorced from the area you enter them from. It makes the world seem fake.
I really do miss that old login screen music. I preferred it to what we've gotten lately.

Gentlemen. Ladies. Our course is clear.
We need AE arcs! Arcs with your interpretations of these enemy groups!
I'll get to that myself... well, just as soon as I finish going through all the new I22 content. Then it's to AE!

First, anyone with business sense will tell you that launching a new IP is way more risky than making a sequel to something people already know about. People who never even played CoH would be more apt to try CoH 2 than CoH just by rationalizing "well, it must be good if it got a sequel" and "since it's the second one it must be way better". See: Left 4 Dead 2. Illogical or not, that's human psychology.
Second, the market for super hero MMOs is really limited. Right now there's three big ones going, a couple of smaller ones and another one that could be major on the way. Launching a new super hero MMO would only cannibalize CoH's existing player base, so it's very unlikely this new IP MMO that Paragon Studios is working on will be in the super hero genre.
.
This is still my favorite CoH video.

I'd even accept a super hero/fantasy hybrid, like Exalted.

All hints to the new IP is a space something.
I'm hoping for Traveller.
