The Avengers Bruce Banner...

Wasn't really happy about the choice of Mark Ruffalo, not because I think he'll do a bad job, but more from the cognitive dissonance of them not being able to settle on a Banner (there's been three, counting the Avengers movie, since his revival in film and there's been three movies with him in it- counting the up-coming Avengers movie).

However once I saw who was doing the voice of the "Incredible" Hulk, I had to forgive and forget.

Check who the voice of "The Incredible Hulk" is! (If you only found the voice actor of the Hulk... keep looking)

I have to admit, it made my inner-fanboy let go of everything and just wait for the ride that will be the Avengers.

As an aside, I'm really surprised at myself for that one simple fact making me feel better about the whole movie.

However, I'm also surprised at how much I could have gotten past in X-Men 3 if Phoenix actually "flared up"...

...before Wolverine killed her... looking back on it, at any rate.

So what do I know?

I couldn't agree more.

ugh... hopefully not. The only reason it worked back then is cuz he didn't talk. I don't mean to say anything bad about the man but he has a lisp and doesn't have a voice that is suitable for a hulk that even remotely talks.

Nostalgia != Good choice

He did okay as the Hulk's voice in the 90s cartoon series. Of course, the series itself wasn't very good overall.

I suspect that the Hulk won't say too much in the movie, at least I doubt it will be more than a few words. If that turns out to be true then the voice choice isn't that important so why not have a nostalgic touch.

I'm still not sure about Ruffalo but hopefully he'll be ok, I wasn't a fan of Bana but I thought Norton was OK. Pretty sure I read somewhere that Whedon wanted a "fresh start" for the Hulk and for Banner they were using Bill Bixby's portrayal as inspiration.

He also did the Hulk's voice in the last movie so not that much of a surprise.

Yes, his voice work was fine in that series. Fred Tatasciore, the current voice of Hulk in Avengers: EMH and other series and features, reminds me a lot of Lou from the old series.

Season 1 was good, Season 2 started out nice with the Grey and Green Hulks, but quickly disintegrated.

Still, Lou can voice the Hulk just fine, IMO. Any lisp or speech problems due to his hearing troubles can easily be fixed by the FX crew. Look what they did for Sabretooth's voice/roar in the first X-men movie.

I think Norton didn't want to come back due to some issues with 2008 Hulk and of course then there is the money factor. Get someone new in the role and save some money

As to Bixby being an inspiration.....both Hulk movies had several nods and homages/easter eggs to the old Bixby/Ferrigno days, and while that is all fine and dandy for the fans perhaps it is also time to step back and decide to break away from all that.

Granted a lab accident that belts Banner with gamma rays is likely quite cheaper to set up then a gamma bomb detonation, and we got a nice nod to the gamma bomb in Ang Lee Hulk, but other then that being used to zap Banner perhaps it's time to leave the nostalgia behind and forge ahead with making a more fitting Hulk movie?

Ang Lee nailed the HULK's power levels. His super running in the desert and leaping for miles and easily stopping the military and surviving being taken to the edge of the atmosphere? Yes that's the Hulk.

2008 Hulk: he wasn't quite as powerful. Also this Hulk wasn't quite as careful in his fight with the military as shown when they attacked him on campus. It sure looked to me like some soldiers were killed, unlike Ang Lee Hulk that took care to have all the soldiers radioing in that they were alright after Hulk trashed their vehicles. Also his fight with Abomination while cool to watch (nice touch colliding in front of the Apollo), should have leveled the city if they were at full power.

Avengers movie: looks like he's back to where Ang Lee and the comics have him.
