individual player houses/apartments

I cancelled my 2nd account I was using to get a feel for F2P and the transition to VIP. And saw the question that asked what would have kept you etc... and one option was

individual player houses/apartments

So i picked it and made the following comment:

7. Please provide any other information that you would like to share in the space below

I am not leaving City of Heroes. This is a 2nd account that I was playing around with. But I had to mention that the idea of individual player houses/apartments is one that had crossed my mind in the past. Smalll apartments in the zone of your choice would be a fun (and for NCSoft, profitable) addition. They must have windows and view to the city (think of the Meet David Odysseus Hill mission in the Mortimer Kal Strike Force). I hope this is something that is in the pipeline.

What do other people think of this idea? has it been talked about ion the past? MY forum search-fu is weak.

Someone will surely come along and give you a thousand reasons why it can't be done, but I just want to sneak in and say that I would love to see that idea implemented

What would be the NON RPers benefit from having an apartment?

No they won't.

This is a suggestion that everyone has been asking for since the day bases were added to the game.

Depending on how they are designed, they could be a watered down version of SG bases with extremely limited storage, a crafting table, med bay, and maybe 1 TP to a zone of the players choice.

Oh and the ability to decorate 3-4 rooms, and the ability to let teammates in.

This is what (if not more than) i had in mind. As for the benefit to non-RPers, who cares nobody would force you to buy one. Would be just anther the to waste real money and INF on. Same could be said for the Dog pet, yet the NCSoft made them

The location thing is the only thing I doubt that we would be able to get. If the devs did devote resources to this idea I think the best we could hope for is something along the lines of what that other hero MMO has.

We wouldn't be able to pick a zone but maybe get a TP power to the apartment/lair and from there have something along the lines of what I speculated.

At worst we'd probably have to use the base portals and there would be a choice to enter our personal apartment/lair or one of the bases on the list.

Which is why I don't own a dog ... and wish I could delete my [vet]Mechman, etc, pet from my e-mail, perminantly.

I might buy a puppy though ... would fit my toons size. The dogs are almost bigger then all of them.

According to a response in the Freedom Friday Facebook posting a couple weeks ago, the issue with player housing is server storage space. Each player apartment would take up comparable room to a base, but instead of having one for almost every Supergroup, you'd have one for almost every player.

I don't think I've ever seen a definitive "No", but I've seen several firm redname responses that basically boiled down to "Don't hold your breath".

I wouldn't complain about housing becoming an option though.

I Don't see a problem with them making a dedicated server for those that would like this feature ... They could tack on an additional Monthly cost for it. I wouldn't assume the price, but $5 seems acceptable to me. If it was functional I might even join the band wagon ... as long as there were pre-made options. Designing a base is why I never made a base.

And which server do you suggest the devs dedicate to that feature? Virtue? Freedom? Oh maybe make it a VIP feature and use Exalted.

Of course you realize how many paying customers it would piss off if they only added the feature to one server right? Because when the devs are talking about "server storage space" they mean Virtue, Freedom, Pinnacle, etc.

Wouldn't it be possible to do this by treating the housing like mission maps? If they make 20 or so very small maps that are each done up to look like a house or apartment and let players pick one to be where their characters lives, that wouldn't take up too much space on the servers, would it?

I think they meant a database server, not a game server. At least, that's how I read it.

I'm fully in support of this idea, but I can't see it being available to all players be they Free, Premium or VIP. I would fully expect this to be VIP only or unlock-able at a certain tier.

your = Belonging to you.
you're = Contraction meaning "You are."
Ur = The name of an ancient Mesopotamian city.
ur = This is not a word.

I've heard this inferred from other sources.

Avoiding a cheap shot here on the time it takes for base related development ivo recent events like xyz placement and better teleporters.

Me neither. It's high on my wish list too.

One man's terrorist is another man's freedom (or freem?) fighter; just as one man's exploit is another man's feature.

Wow... the server(s) alone per zone would be stupid. If Everyone wanted an apartment, even VIPs only... sheesh. Everyone would have to pay a lot to have that set up. $25+per month for the apartments, easy.

I think I'll just live in the train station, under a bridge, in the guard shack in the Hollows, like everyone else.

It would have it's own sever ... when you're inside your apartment, It's just you a citizen of CoH/V.

You would select a building in any city to be your apartment building, when you click the door to it, you move to the apartment/house server. (I would be fine with it being a global apartment too ... all toons/servers connect to it.)

This would be the best solution ... Gives options for RPers, and changes nothing for other gamers.

Do the "rent an apartment" mission. Hunt for what you can afford ... blah blah blah

Sounds like RPing fun.

Please let's not bring up the global/multi server issue cuz the first thing that will happen is people will start screaming about how each character deserves a different looking global apartment.

I don't see why not ... as long as they are willing to pay for it. I would only pay for one. Additional ones would be more.

In any case. They, most likely, won't do it anyway. So, doesn't matter.

Hadn't even thought of the paying for extra ones per character, That would cause even more screaming and rage quitting. not that I don't get a laugh from rage quitting threads.

I would say considering how much has been added in the last 2 + years that clearly was done so to go head to head with its younger sibling made by they who shall not be named, that personal housing is very likely to happen.

It is in fact one of the few pay for features on that OTHER game that does what its meant to and isnt costing ridiculous amounts of cash for. The concept is simple and sound. An apartment building in each zone, similar to the AE buildings in that you can look out windows etc.

Each building has a certain pre fabricated lay out, with a series of adjustable options that allow for each player to have a decent semi custom personal space. It could include one free salvage bin as part of the cost to make it useful to non RPers as well, and allow it to be expanded for additional RL costs.

The player then picks a door number to be his, its not JUST his, simply a means of directing other players there, you focurse could only enter another perons home if you where teamed. Hence you wouldnt need any kind of list to pop up when you clicked a door, you just wouldnt have anything happen if you where not on a team.

Many things could be then done over time to develop this basic idea which I have little doubt would bring in ALOT more funds to the game. Id probably by one of each type eventually.

I don't know why I even post on the topic ... I wouldn't use them anyway. LOL

Me too (rage quitting) ... They are so much fun. I enjoy saying nice things to them, which just makes them more mad. (like my EX wife) LOL

Me: "I'm on your side dude. I can't stand this issue either"

Them: "Shut up dude ... I didn't ask you"

Me: "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ... You posted here ... So you did. and More laughs."

I think my absolute favorites are the:

"I'm gonna sue!"

"This is false advertisement"

"Wait till the BBB get my letter!" and or phone call.

I was thinking this very thing, and searched for this suggestion before posting it myself.

I'd pay market points (ie, real money) to be able to make a small personal base/apartment. Allow one per account, and have all alts on a server share it maybe, max size being the smallest base size, but still allow the same stuff bases have?

I'm sorry, I'm just not a big social player but I like this game, and I'd like to be able to have a personal base between my characters to store things like those with SGs have. Nothing huge, but it would be nice to have.

Don't hold your breath waiting. Posi has flat out told us that they are against everything that would let us make creating solo SG's easier.

Right now the best we could hope for is extremely restricted base features, and that is very unlikely considering the devs current policy on the subject.

Edit: The topic in question where we got Posi's response was about if they would consider adding a feature that let us send email invites to our offline characters, and we were told that if they ever were to add such a feature they would deliberately design it so we wouldn't be able to send email invites to characters on our own accounts. SG's were designed for group oriented content not to make solo SG's/bases.

I wish we could convince them otherwise.
