Quote:This is sort of where I stand, I don't mind being solo, it's just that the story arcs on Redside kinda suck. The Dr Graves arc was actually great, I loved that one, because it wasn't all "ohhhh let's rob a bank then beat up Girl Scouts outside of WalMart and sell their cookies for PROFIT!". That really isn't my idea of a villain. Granted, I haven't gotten through more than level 30 of redside content so maybe it gets better, but thus far the stories have not been great. What we need is more redside arcs where you're not the lackey. I think that is what started driving people away from redside in the first place. We need more actual villainous content. Co-op arcs generally have the villains working towards some "greater good," which isn't what a decent amount of villain players want.
Give me more content where my character can be truly evil, and I'll play there more. -
Quote:The mission with Torvald was actually a really memorable moment for me in CoH. I remember I ran the mish invisible to just get past it, I hate fighting the Thorns, then I hit the objective and just got mad. I broke stealth and did a full clear of the level on every Thorn in the place even though I had the complete already. I was disappointed when I finished them all and I didn't have any more of them to stab in the face.
And though some of the old stories may have had dark elements to them - poor Edgar Torvald - they still had solid, satisfying conclusions.
Bit like that moment for Rorschach where he finds the little girls remains.
Loved the fact that they made it so that I couldn't win in that one, to be honest. -
I thought it was just me, but the two redside characters I've rolled I've decided I need to switch to blueside on because it's just so...vacant on Redside. I'm keeping one Dom there just to slowly play through the content solo.

I would roll a Psy Melee scrapper. I already rolled a KM/EA scrapper as a concept of the KM being short-range TK attacks. My only concern would be the same that I found in my PB blaster: anything robotic makes me furious. Splitting the damage to be part smashing/energy and part psi would be awesome though. Having Drain Psyche as a scrapper defense would make me very happy.

I searched and didn't see this posted before, but I might have used the wrong keywords.
I'd really like to see the Warrior costume set pieces put into a bundle. Originally these were from the Martial Arts Super Booster, and several of the other Boosters have been bundled.
I'd just like to not have to buy all of the pieces individually. By my count on the wiki, there are 46 costume pieces. At 40 points each, that's 1840PP to buy individually. While I'm not asking for every one of those to be part of a pack, having a decent-priced pack for most of it would be really nice I think. -
Quote:Oh. Well, all I have run is pick up TFs. I've "tanked" in a few of those. Never had issues before holding aggro, but I'm taking the approach of trying it and see if I ever use it. In any case, I can use the extra End, and didn't need any other powers there anyway.I wouldn't call it essential anywhere but pick up STFs. What it does do is increase the options available to you in many more circumstances than that. It isn't that you have to take your share of the doom rings on a BAF, but if you have that capability you can make the fight go more smoothly. You don't need to be the one to pull Antimatter to the terminals, but if you know where he is and you know which terminal needs his attention, why not take care of it yourself? If your main criterion for power usefulness is whether it's completely indispensable then confront may not measure up, but there are so many ways to use it to good effect to make life a little bit easier for everyone.

After the argument I got into in another thread about it, I actually added it to my end-game build for my Claws/SR scrapper as my lvl 50 power. I'm two-slotting it for Max End bonus. That's really the only reason I took it, up until now I've never had any issues pulling aggro, but if several of you are claiming I'm going to need it in iTrials, then I might as well.
-
Quote:Don't put words into my mouth. I made a suggestion under the premise that I, and many other scrappers, have zero issues with taking aggro by just hitting things.
Some people are going on about removing the power for something else. Which is yellow, it's like "I don't want to guarantee myself the AVs aggro". Or it's not tactically good like "I don't want to do anything which can raise the survivability or the DPS off of the team". I actually think that the game is not complicated and people continue to demand more and more in their favour just to get through it.
It has nothing to do with being "yellow", I'm not the one wanting an easy button to tank something. I ran on a GM hunt group a week ago where I was the tank, or at least I was once the other scrapper would pull aggro and die in two hits. I kept the aggro from everyone else besides that scrapper just by hitting stuff. That's what we do. I have run a good deal of TFs where I was tanking on my scrapper. I have tanked AVs with my scrapper when there was no tank. I have no problems with being attacked, so don't insult me.
I am fine with staying out of this discussion from here on out, but don't make things up about what I said and call me names. I don't like that. -
Quote:I've played a fair share of f2p games also. I'm glad they restrict those things in this game. The things that made those others unplayable and unbearable to me was the spamming and abuse by free players constantly, who didn't care if they got banned because they'd just make another free account. The AH needs to be restricted because otherwise botted farming free characters would be even more prevalent. The AH is $2. If you can't toss down $2 for the AH, then what exactly do you want other than everything to be given to you for free?Dude. We're talking about the only f2p game I have ever played that makes it where you have to pay to send pm's or use the auction block. It's the most monetarily restrictive f2p game I have ever played, and I've played more than my fair share.
This game is managing to keep it under control for now, and while they do, I'm going to keep giving them my money. -
EDIT: Meh, nevermind. I can't delete posts but I don't want to be part of this discussion anymore.

I made a blanket statement based on looking at builds and guides on this forum. My own experience, and granted I have not run Incarnate material yet as it wasn't around when I originally played this game and I haven't gotten a new char to that point yet, concurs with what I have read. That isn't either of the things you are accusing me of here.
I'm going to go back to what I said a bit ago:
-
Quote:Whew. I apologize, I assumed that attitudes like this was more the domain of certain other MMOs.How do you like relying on the presence of a tank on every team? Why learn how to manage aggro and stand up to AVs yourself when you can just get someone else to do it for you, eh? If your best case against confront is "it huwts the poow wittwe tanker's feewings," you'll have to pardon me for telling you to learn to play.
I'm bowing out of this conversation, the counter argument was actually really well made by other people with better attitudes than this.
In every MMO I have ever played, I've always been the tank. I have played tanks for a long, long time in several different games, I know how the role functions, but I certainly will take your advice of "learning to play" under immediate consideration. Do you charge for this advice? If not you ought to consider making a career in it.
Quote:I am not a pleasant person. Do you read your statements. Can you guarantee that they are 100% true? Down in the Scrapper section Zyphoid atleast asked, the mere less than 1% of the player base that care to look in the Scrapper section.
I am annoyed with anyone trying to remove a power that I have never ever not had since March 2005. That's 7 years and in those 7 years there have been a few others who have taken it and still have it.
I don't mind Brutes getting Taunt, I don't mind Scrappers getting Confront, that would be silly as I do not roll Brutes without Taunt or Scrappers without Confront. I'll tank with all of them as and when required.
If I am teamed with a Tanker then being a Tanker player I should realise that they've logged on to tank so aside from bits here and there I do what most people consider Bruting or Scrapping. If he's Tanking and not doing too well then I can only put it down to inexperience and quite frankly I think most people have to gain experience to lose inexperience. I may or may not try to take complete control, I may just do what they should of done. It maybe that against a particular AV a type of Tanker isn't the best foot forward lacking completely in Psi def and all and my Dark Armour Brute or Scrapper can take some/most/all of the weight. Not necessarily full time but part of the time. If a Tankers worried they can ease up on their threat and allow me increase mine in order for me to bear things instead.
I don't live in a world where I never needed confront and am too stupid to realise all the times where someone that I have teamed with might of thought after being held or planted "If only she had confront" because I have always had confront.
I obviously cannot speak for everyone and do not have access to the player database to mine for how many scrappers take that power. Obviously some do. I've been searching lately for builds and looking at all guides for Scrappers as I like to learn more about what I'm doing, and I've never found anyone saying "take Confront" nor have I encountered a situation where I was like "man, I really wish I had Confront".
I have always played the tank in MMOs for over a decade. It's part of my nature, and on my scrapper I do watch out for the support classes and run over to stop mobs from swarming them. It's already easy to do with a scrapper, you go and hit it. It's almost always dead after a few hits anyway so it's not hitting your teammate.
So, I do apologize for making the blanket statement that I did. Calling someone a liar isn't exactly a tactful response, though. -
Quote:Okay, point made and taken.Well, let's look at this from a slightly different perspective. What tier level attack is this new damage bearing attack going to be?
For example sake lets say it is an attack that is equal to the tier 3 attack for that set, so in essence you now get two tier 3 attacks. Say that person then decides to drop his tier 1 or tier 2 attack in the chain and use the extra attack in its place, something they cannot do now. That is one place where the buff is clear. Right?
I'll shut up now. -
Quote:I would like to have this explained to me, because maybe I'm too dense to get it.A brawl level attack? I mean anything else would have to be considered a buff.
Let's say over 30 seconds, a Scrapper is attacking on an EB. Each of those 30 seconds, they are executing an attack. That means they are doing a fixed amount of damage over that time. With the number of attacks we have available, we already never have a moment where we don't have an attack up and ready to execute.
If we were given more HP, or more Crit chance, or more max End, or a Dmg boost power, then the attack chain we run does more, or we survive more.
That is a buff.
Putting another attack in that does the damage that our existing attacks already do doesn't increase anything. We would be doing the same DPS, have the same HP, same everything.
I don't see how that would be a buff of any kind. The only thing I'm getting at is making our chains a bit less stale and static.
You are quite a pleasant person and your argument is very convincing.
How do your tanks appreciate having aggro taken from them when you taunt the AV they are tanking for the team? I'm sure they really love it when you do that on your Scrapper. -
I didn't ask for a ranged attack. I said medium melee attack. Nothing more than we already have.
-
Quote:I'm not seeing it. If we are running an attack, we aren't doing other attacks. An actual buff is making attacks do more damage. It's not doing any more damage than we already do. It's not giving us more HP, or providing a team buff, or giving us more Def, or anything else like that. It's just another straight attack. Confront doesn't do jack right now because no scrapper actually takes and uses it.And in turn since you are adding an attack that does damage it is in fact a buff mate. Confront does not damage anyone unless you slot the proc, the new attack would do damage all the time. I think that is the other side of the perspective here.
I'm an empathetic person and try to see other sides, but we wouldn't be getting any buff. There is no buff to just giving us another tool of what we already do. There is no extra damage we would be doing.
If scrappers ever took confront and used it, then you might have a point. That would be a break in our damage chain. But since we don't, and we already have enough attacks to fill chains, then providing just another attack doesn't give us anything more than we already have. But we'd have another choice at least. -
Quote:I wasn't proposing any kind of buff. Just a new power choice for one that we shouldn't even have. A buff is making what we do now better. Replacing something that we share with other ATs isn't a buff.... Nah, I'd go with Taunt. Gotta put that secondary to use!
Scrappers don't need buffs. Or anything unique. Or anything like that. They are unique in being the only extremely well performing, straight-forward, no-gimmicks AT in the game ;P
In fact, replacing Confront (which is Taunt) with another medium melee attack doesn't change the AT any more except make us have a primary with absolutely zero frills, just straight attacking. That would fit us pretty well and make us fairly unique. -
Quote:Well, Confront we share with Brutes and Tankers. Those two have a role that we (scrappers) have absolutely no business trying to be. For those two ATs, Confront actually makes sense and matches their role. On a Scrapper, it's completely pointless. No one ever, ever takes it. It's not like every power needs to be worth taking, it's a power in every single one of our powersets that does not serve any purpose at all for our AT.The thing is, changing Confront really doesn't seem like it'd be adding to Scrapper individuality. Scrappers are somewhat unique in their simplicity, and skip the muddy waters of Hide and Fury.
Changing Confront goes hand in hand with my "every power should be worth taking" thought process...
I'm just sayin', scrappers are fine, but Confront is a big silly hole in our powersets. It would be like removing a power from every Stalker set and putting a Taunt there. It doesn't fit the AT. Scrappers aren't there to tank, we are there to beat stuff up.
I figured if anything was going to make us "unique", it's getting rid of the single power that does not fit a scrapper, and we share with Tankers/Brutes. -
-
Quote:Point is, any AT can bring those to the table. That has nothing at all to do with Scrappers. That doesn't make Scrappers unique. In most other MMO a DPS that could bring all that extra to the table would get you a resounding 'yes!' when compared to others who didn't.
Fortunately (or un, depending on your preferences), this is City so all it gets you is a 'sounds handy'.
The only change I'd like to see with scrappers is make Confront not be worthless. We aren't tanks, we kill stuff. Make it inflict a Debuff or Fear or give us another attack that might make us not all skip it in every set. Otherwise, the straightforward nature of Scrappers is why I roll them the most. -
Quote:Yeah, I need to test it out once I have all the IOs slotted to see how it exemps. It's very possible I won't need it after all, just not really certain what powers to replace the Leadership pool with if I decide to drop it. I don't need or want any of the others, when fitting with my concept.I hear that, probably due to a combo of using 4 purple sets (+40% recharge) and the slotting I use in Strike and Follow Up that I don't have a gap when exemping that I've noticed. That would be another advantage to NOT using set bonuses for soft capping which require 6 slotting. I end up with quite a bit of rech and endred enhancement in addition to acc and dam. I haven't bothered as of yet but if I used lvl 43 triples only the dual IO's would suffer any scaling unless I exemplared under level 20. (And of course my ToD triples are under lvl 43).

Quote:Ah, I run without a true travel power. Ninja Run is my travel power. Are you using Ninja Run while in combat, is it part of your end consumption?
Quote:No Maneuvers is just +def(all). Just wondering if you run it or is it a set mule only. Asking as you seem to be saying Toggles + Weave puts you at the soft cap and I was thinking by toggles you meant FF, FS, and Evasion. If you aren't actively using Maneuvers for +def then you can lose a set bonus for each of the 3 positions by running Maneuvers (or not use GSFC in Follow Up, which is where To Hit entered the discussion I think) and potentially slot those powers differently gaining better enhancement for those powers as well as more max health, +regen etc., etc.. What does the current build look like now?
Doomguide
Current build, granted I did this in game without Mids and planning, just taking what I felt I needed at the time, and slotting as I felt I needed at the time. I know I made some mistakes that I'm going to fix when I hit 50 and respec. I can't seem to figure out how to change the levels of the IOs, so note those are of various levels from 30-40, exception being the damage IO in Swipe is only 25. That power is not extra slotted and I neglect it, only there so I have something to use when I farm the first SSA arc.

Quote:Well, when I exemp to before Evis and Quickness, there is a big ol hole in my attack chain. I HATE standing there and not having an attack to use. Like, really, really hate it. I'll try it without Swipe and see how exemp'ing goes. Currently when I go back to lvl 20 I put Swipe back into my chain, I have never respec'd out of it in live. But, then I don't have all of the IO's installed yet.Yes the to hit of Follow Up will stack with the GSFC to hit proc when it fires. Are you running Maneuvers? I'd work to be able to use Maneuvers 24-7 so you can slot Damage and not To Hit buffs in Follow Up (assuming, as you seem to indicate, you aren't running it ... just the SR toggles + Weave to cap)
As for dropping Assault for Swipe ... maybe instead reconsider grabbing Combat Jumping. In addition to being fantastic for moving around it is a very cheap toggle (believe it is still the cheapest in the game) that'll provide +def. Just use a single (boosted?) defense IO and you'll probable net a good deal of the defense (if not all) you would gain by using the full GSFC.
As for exemplar ... by lvl 17 you should have Strike, Slash, Spin, Follow Up and Focus (and all but Focus by level 5). Not sure I would worry about adding another attack in there you should be pretty well set. If anything if it's a concern move Focus up in the order to take it ASAP at 18 (then you'd have all the above by level 13).
Doomguide
Don't like CJ, I tried it out in test on this char. It doesn't stack with Ninja Run which is my primary move-around power unless I'm doing long distances in which case I use SJ. NinRun gives me both running and jumping speed so I vastly prefer it on this char.
I don't have Mids in front of me at work here, but I'm confused about running Maneuvers. Does that toggle do something other than +Def? You mentioned ToHit so I wonder if you are meaning Tactics? -
Quote:This actually sounds really awesome.I really would like to see a "radiation armor" tank/brute/scrapper set, actually been hoping for this for several years. They could just use irradiate from the defender/blaster set for the taunt aura and convert some of the powers from Radiation and I think it would be pretty sweet.
