Help with TW/EA build.

Howdy folks. I'm looking for some comments and feedback on a Titan Weapon/Energy Aura build. I plan on using this build for several different things, including running ITF's, Incarnate Trials, and soloing Police Scanner Missions. I've pretty much hit the soft cap positionally, with the exception of Negative Energy and Psionic Def. Right now I'm hoping to be able to grab Musculature and Barrier for my Alpha and Interface slots respectively.

I'm a little bit concerned with the overall ACC of the build, so any suggestions on how I could improve this character would be great. Oh, and I'd prefer to stay away from purple enhancements as I simply don't have the influence to spend on them.

Just a side note, I used War Mace as the filler for Titan Weapons and added Spring Attack simply to represent the extra AoE that Titan Weapons has that War Mace does not. My actual build will not include Spring Attack.

Why are you chasing positional defense bonuses when using a set that is typed defense?

Try something more like this - my TW/EA brute's build...
I'm using every attack from TW except Defensive Sweep, so 3 AoE and 3 ST attacks.

I think both of these look fairly solid, however there are a couple of changes i would make. Defensive sweep is a low end cost, very short recharge power that with just 1 def io slotted adds about 12% defense(melee, smashing) with every use, that stacks. On top of this, it also creates momentum, which makes it a very good power to keep in every rotation, even though the dmg is very low. This would free up quite a bit of slotting room you could use to add more end recovery bonuses, or possibly recharge if you arent having any end problems.
This brings me to my second point, my tw toons are all brutes, but with tw/fa, the endurance use of tw is very high, even with t3 cardiac i found myself having to eat blue inspirations quite frequently. This was with about 40% more recharge than either of your builds, and aoe heavy, but with considerably less static end usage(1.62% in Rook's build, 1.42 in Infini's, and about .99 in my brutes).
So, in short, I would focus a little less on smashing/lethal/melee defense in each build, and use sets to improve recovery/recharge time. Losing up to 12% defense in each of these makes the defense easily replaceable by popping a single small luck, and gives you a lot more room to pursue other bonuses.
I would also drop tough in both of these builds, as it seems to be used for nothing more than a mule for defensive set bonuses. This will free up some slots to possibly add to attacks as end redux, or maybe accuracy.
Rook, I would swap Focused Acc for Tactics. The end cost difference is pretty considerable, and you could 5 slot it with Adjusted Targeting for an acc and recharge time bonus.

I guess you never played /EA. It has an infinite endurance tool after level 35 so you dont need to worry much about the blue bar, like /ELA.

Also it's so easy to softcap that you can skip Defensive Sweep, which is a very weak attack, when your build is done. Plus DS doesn't boost lethal def which leaves a hole in EA and other typed armors like Ice.

And if you slot Dampening Field and Tough, you get good s/l resists (32.5%) so it's worth getting Tough if you're slotting both.

I have a planned build for my scrapper, not very happy with it as it has only 62.5% global rech, but with EA you're usually at 10-20% bonus recharge, so maybe it can turn out to be good, been usng Defensive on the lower levels for now (she's like, 7) - I guess I can squeeze more recharge if I use Kinetic Combats but I hate paying so much for them:

Same deal, 3 STs, 3 PbAoEs, pretend Blinding Feint is Build Momentum because I used it as a template instead of War Mace. Vengeful Slice is Follow Through.

You're right, I have never played EA, but with an endless endurance bar, I would change all of these bonuses out for recharge. With my tw/fa build, I was able to get 180% recharge. One thing that might help a lot with tw, most of the powers have kb or kd, so you could slot a force feedback chance for recharge in all of the aoe attacks, with 5 oblits. I'll try to work up a build when i get my lunch break, though I'm not sure if there is another scrapper primary with 3 PBAoe knockdowns to simulate TW.

Lessie, a few points:

For the OP: Swap out the positional bonus sets as shown in the previous two builds. Look into using Force Feedback +rech in Whirling Smash - it's basically Foot Stomp for scrappers. I'm not sure what your budget (or access to alignment merits) is like, but LOTG +rech in your defense toggles is also highly recommended.

Regarding Tough: It effectively doubles your s/l resistance (slightly more than doubles actually) and is definitely worth taking. Come to think of it, I haven't made a melee toon without tough/weave for as long as I can remember.

/EA is stupidly easy to softcap to S/L/F/C/N and can almost push the incarnate softcap (got my build to 55%) on nrg defense without outside buffs and before the defense bonus from nrg drain. The build below iCap's nrg defense with a 6-mob hit of the drain. I'm not done tweaking, and it's not a budget build, but it's below. I will probably frankenslot the powers with purple sets as they are acquired (I have some of the pieces on standby already), and maybe make room for the scrapper ATO set somewhere in there.

I'm not happy with it just yet, so it's a work in progress. Endurance use is still higher than I want it to be and recovery low; I want nrg drain as a tool, not a must have. I would also like to be able to run Musculature Core for that sweet extra dmg, but will likely need Radial for the +endmod. I might be over-built for +accuracy, I'm not convinced I'll take the nrg mastery epic: Phys perf is nice, LBE is nice for theme/looks, but I'm not sure I need/want FA. In the end I will probably stick with this power choice because the confuse/terrorize protection in Tactics isn't all that great, making FA's -to hit resistance more valuable. Also, Fly will likely not be fly.


Does anyone remember what tweak I am supposed to make to mids to calculate hit chance on +4s?

Kioshi: I'd swap your slotting in AoD and WS - Whirling will be up more often than AoD, and as a personal preference I like the proc in the pbAoE over the Cone. Is AoD 10 targets or 5, I want to say 5.

Double Edit:

It doesn't take very many set bonuses to get to these def numbers, I'd prefer to use a purple insp to fight off def debuffs than use it when I want to be soft-capped (natural def 32.5%). 32.5% is a great target for resist/regen secondaries, but might as well play to a defense based set's strength, imo.

Here is the build i came up with. I used Battle axe as a template for TW. Chop=crushing blow,swoop=follow through,gash=rend armor, and the three aoes are all pbaoe knockdown like tw. The levels arent the same, so youd ultimately have to move some stuff around in the end, but this is defense capped for s/l/c/f/n, with 150ish% recharge, and procs in every aoe attack. After reading this, and talking about it, I think this might be my next character. This is just a quick one i threw together, so I might have broke the 5 rule, but this should give you a good idea of what you can accomplish with TW.

This is what my build looks like on Live ATM (Have yet to drop defensive sweep until I finish posi for TFC) Spring attack is a placeholder for one of the PbAoE's, didn't think to use WM.

I use Agility instead of nerve for alpha and it will let you incarnate soft cap with the easily double stacked Energy Drain. (Assuming 4-5 foes in range)

Overload is still dull pain without the heal. A 2400 HP scrapper is tougher than a 1900 HP scrapper. I don't use it much, but I like having it. AoE end use is absolutely terrible, but if you are using AoE's that means you are fighting more than 3 targets and can completely fill your end bar using Energy drain. I've found my end sustainable against AV's if I either keep one extra foe in range or use Energize for its end discount.

The two travel powers are pretty much there for concept and could be skipped. (or reduced to one)

Yeah Defensive is not that good on EA because of the lethal 'hole'. I'm using it now but I'll respec out later because mine's a lowbie. Also entropic aura gives +rech, with 5 mobs +22.5%, with 10 +40%. Had to look up because I only have a Stalker past 30 with EA and on Stalkers Entropic is not a taunt aura and gives a fixed 20% recharge bonus.

Anyway the FF proc is good enough on the Footstomp clone imo, I have a high-end SS/Fire Brute and I find one plenty good for him. Plus the other kd powers only have a 5-target cap.

Yeah you're right, Arc has a 5 target cap and is up less often (20 secs), whirling has a 14 sec recharge and hits ten. I put it in the 32 power just because Typhoon doesn't accept KB enhancements. Mine will probably level only when Mid's has TW anyway because I usually play ranged toons I like making EA build tho. Crushing Blow and Rend Armor take the -res proc iirc.

Now if I used a Kinetic Combat set and purples I could improve the build I posted with 1 sec off permahasten when you have 5 foes around you (empty slot in power slice would be another achiless in crushing blow although I'm not sure it's something really needed, maybe it's better on CB than Rend Armor anyway)

Yeah, I forgot to specify - the empty slot in PS for the achillies proc, and the one in Typhoon is for the FF proc in Whirling Smash.

I plan on using Achillies in both CB and RA, which just gives it more chances to fire, they don't stack on eachother, but they'll stack with RA, which is nice. What I want to do is take a second pass at it and see if I can squeeze more damage and regen out of it.

I use the same on my ss/fa/mu, but the proc only lasts for 5 seconds. With one in each pbaoe, you could have have the recharge proc up a big chunk of the time.You also need momentum to use whirling smash, which i assume is the footstomp clone you are referring to, and though it has a pretty short recharge, it also does considerably less dmg than either of the cone attacks. Granted the chances of the proc firing will be smaller on these other 2 powers, but getting the extra slots for each is not detrimental to the build in any way that i can see, and the enhancements themselves arent expensive at all.
Edit: The extra recharge would have a positive change in the dps of the build, but probably not a huge one. With the 3 st and 3 aoe attacks, you'll not be waiting for something to recharge,my intent is more aimed at keeping momentum up and being able to use the highest dmg attacks as much as possible.

I don't care much about building momentum because Crushing Blow and def sweep only have a 2-2.2 sec cast time so it's fast anyway and I have momentum up most of the time, even on the 50 tw/regen I have on beta - I never saw why people complain so much about losing it or that the set feels slow, since it's easy and fast to get it again, guess too many are used to play dark melee or katana and never played Energy Melee, also known as the corpse blasting set lol.

Another FF proc in Titan Sweep might be a good idea tho since it recharges quickly, my slotting went for max recharge on the power, not that needed.

Titan Sweep has a 1.429 dmg scale and Whirling Smash has 1.405, Footstomp has 1.42 (tanker values). But WS outdamages both of them if the 85% chance for DoT goes off - the DoT doesn't crit so TS crits do a bit more on a Scrapper, but WS has a huge radius and more chances to crit.

That's one spendy build you got there, but great def numbers even without the alpha slot toggled on.

I see your point on Overload, but I tend to shy away from things with heafty crashes like that, I guess it's not a big deal to cart around a blue for the crash, then nrg drain on the next mob to fill up. Forgot that it was +hp.

I'm fiddling around with an intermediate build (no purples, no hamis, no pvps, not that I ever have pvps), but I'm not sold on power selection. Would be fun to fit in afterburner if I stick with fly. Tempted to take SS for stealthing repetitive tasks (tips, etc). Too many choices, heh.

I do wonder about a no hasten version of tw/ea. Massive recharge is great to be able to use just heavy hitters repeatedly, but riding the recharge wave from entropy field might be enough. I'm used to using Hasten though, with the exception of one character I guess. Thoughts?

Thanks for the suggestions and build posts folks. Here's a new build I've dreamt up. I wanted to get a little closer to the Incarnate soft cap (59%?) and increase the to about 180% to be somewhat safe against acc and to hit debuff, all the while slotting Musculature Core Paragon, Reactive, and Barrier into my incarnate slots. My recharge has suffered slightly becuase of this, however I left 3 spaces as several of you have done for the Forced Feedback +Rech proc.

New Mids, hallelujah!

I had to make my build from scratch as I'm at work, but this is softcapped (only 41% neg though) with +18.4% HP (not counting Accolades), hits 95% against +3s, and the end use is minimized and Recovery is as good as I can make it with the slots I have. I used a Brute, but the build should work just as well for a Scrapper aside from the lack of Superior Conditioning. You can get a few points more in defense by switching Combat Jumping for Manuevers (or even just adding Manuevers on top); I went with CJ+Kismet over Manuevers+Tactics in order to keep my endurance use lean.

To be honest, it probably could be better. It uses a lot of expensive sets and only just barely meets softcap, but to be fair does only need CJ+Weave, not CJ+Weave+Manuevers, which helps with end issues. The 10% Regen bonus caps out due to all the LotG and Scirocco sets; I don't want to lose the LotGs due to the +HP bonuses nor the Sciroccos for the F/C defense, but Serendipity might be a good replacement to splash some extra Recovery in. Mocking Beratement also may not be the best use of slots, especially on a Scrapper. I plan to br00t-tank with this build, so it works for me, but others may disagree. In general I just had a hell of a time finding F/C defense. It also doesn't bother with Hasten, which I know most people consider essential.

That all said, it should still be a solid build, and if you go for the accolades plus Agility Alpha it becomes a beast. End Mod, Recharge, and Defense bonuses all help TW/EA significantly; Partial Core Revamp gets you one Energy Drain use away from softcapped Neg and ~50% to everything else, which is well within one purple of being iCapped.

Still fiddling, but it would seem that Mids isn't adding the dmg enhancement from Musculature to the dmg numbers off to the bottom left. It shows the % enhancement in the pop-up windows and such, but the dmg numbers don't change correspondingly.

I happen to leveling up one of these myself and as MIDs was updated I was playing around with the build.

I did notice that power like energy drain are not adding onto the endurance increase but you get the percentage listed. I also noticed that Incarnate powers are not show increases as well. EG Musculature is not adding its damage increase to the powers as it used to and the difference between the 33% and 45% recharge increase from Agility are the same though I would imagine there has to be a difference for 12% when I notice a 5% change even if its fractions of a second. So there are some glitches with the new MIDs but it is absolutely better then not having it, so no complaints here.

I the key 2 powers of course in EA are Energy Drain and Energize. One is easily Perma and the other you can get close to perma.

I am gonna speak more general terms as I know you seems to understand the specifics.

After creating and toying around with the build, you start to come some simple conclusions getting Typed Defense capped is not hard and your pretty much over capped in many defenses. So I started trying to get Energize as close to perma as I could. End result I had to make a bunch of changes just to shave off a second or two and it wasn't worth it. So I decided to go the other route toward Incarnate missions. Simply once your past 45 in defenses your dealing with streak breaker attacks and at this point having close to 20 defense capped toons from various AT but only one scrapper and no tanks or brutes or dominators. Doing 4/8 anything the biggest thing your worrying about is those hits. Anyone who has soloed a farm will always notice a bunch of mobs just hanging around not attacking you while a small group is. Its the aggro cap that is preventing that. So once you hit 50% in defenses in regular content its a moot point.

But getting 50 and 60 for Incarnate stuff matters as 59% seems to be the new defense cap for incarnate missions. Fortunately a TW / EA can easily obtain these ranges or close enough that 1 purple and 1 orange inspiration will put them in good standings to tank an AV or pull one if needed.

So this is my build under the new Mids. The last minute changes I made were removing 1 slot from Overload and placing it in Build Momentum. The issue was either going with 3 Rectified or Gaussian. I went with Gaussian for the chance of getting a buildup and it recharges a bit faster then with Rectified. I am also considering getting rid of Overload for Confront. Though I could clearly see the use of Overload during some incarnate wipe situations. But confront can be helpful when you need to taunt a AV for the group or League. If you double slot overload for recharge its up every almost 110 seconds. So you would 2 slot Build Momentum and 2 slot overload. Yet again you could slot Overload with Serendipity and get a bit of extra regeneration in the build.

As you can see not knowing the choice between Overload and Confront is my inexperience with the Scrapper AT and specifically those 2 powers..

I have Agility selected for the Alpha Incarnate. The build is short by 5 (4.97) seconds to having Energize perma. Though as I mentioned the 33% and 45% are giving the same numbers atm. Don't know if that is a bug or not. So it could be less then 5 seconds. Without Agility Alpha your at 8 seconds if you wanted to pick up musculature.

I only have Energy drain slotted for 3 mobs which is a very, very conservative number with this type of build. You will be running more then likely at max or at least 8.

Again as you can see it starts to become small percentages near the end when making these changes. Which I think starts to become ridiculous sometimes.

Only having 52% Def Debuff Resist is kind of painful, but pretty much completely ignoring the slow from caltrops, quicksand, etc is pretty funny.

Why aren't you slotting up Energy Cloak and Maneuvers? If you did that, you wouldn't have to chase as many def bonuses AND your enduse would be less abysmal.

Chasing less defense bonuses means you can chase more recharge bonuses >.>

Tough + Dampening Field = up to 30% s/l resist, which is decent. Swap slottings between Tough and Energy Protection.

Last thing, powers like Energy Drain (Energy Absorption from Ice Armor) love Membrane HOs. Two of those and a couple end/end and end/rech IOs and it's golden.
