The process was really simple... no un-subbing necessary.
My current sub ends on May 14; when I took the deal, it just changed my sub type to "Bonus Holiday 6+1" effective May 14.
I think this should take me into Dec 14 of next year.... just in time for the next round.

EDIT: According to account management, my current sub isn't up until April of next year. Am I not eligible for the 12+2 until March or something?

If they did this plan again in December 2012, I'd have to choose between the 12+2 plan that I would have already signed up for (ie this one) or the 12+2 plan in December 2012. Either way it works out to the same thing: my subscription would renew in April 2014.
Of course I'm hoping for a similar plan in April 2014 as a "anniversary bonus time" thing.

So, you are subscribed to April 2012, getting the 12+2 plan now will give you 14 months starting in April.

When I say "current" I mean I got previous bonus time, from last year. It is finally about to start for me.

1. Visit https://secure.ncsoft.com and log in.
2. My Accounts, City of Heroes VIP.
3. There should be a big graphic button with Desdemona in a santa hat offering you to claim your bonus time.
4. Pick the 6+1 or 12+2 plan.
Done! Next time your sub rolls over, you'll get the bonus time. It's also a good opportunity to swap plans, if you like.

Dump, if you just have a normal sub currently, you'll be fine. Even if your sub is currently on a special offer, you'll be fine (because the offer is already in effect for you).
Snow's special from last year isn't in effect on his account yet. It won't kick in for him until Dec. 7. So he is waiting for it to start running before he gets a new one.

Though the free months be terribly tempting... with all the other gifts I am buying this year, not sure if I want to drop the amount on myself. Thankfully, this last's for a while, so if I discover in a few weeks that I'm within budget, I will probably take this offer.

Discrimination? Bad exchange rate? Or perhaps an archaic hangover from when NCSoft EU were pulling the strings? Time for a change. Time for EU players to have access to the same deals. This has been asked many times and yet all we've ever had is stony silence.

Are you on monthly? Semi-annual? Annual?
If you're on either of the latter, it won't cost you a cent now. And it's merely changing how many months you'll get when your account DOES renew (with no extra cost to you).

Ok, I messed something up. I was planning to take advantage of this time deal but in the process of attempting to do so (due to a small desk-quake/elbow-bumping) I accidentally removed my credit card from file, you know, the save credit card information allowing for repeat purchases/point purchases and auto renewing, etc, etc. Now if I want to save my credit info to file I have to re-fill everything out, and/or (I'm assuming) make a purchase. I want to take advantage of this time plan, but my account doesn't lapse (which for the record I don't want it to, want to stay VIP as long as I enjoy the game) until july 16th, and I don't want to have to buy more time until that date. Is there any way to re-set-up/re-enter my credit information to my account so I can auto-renew without having to purchase anything (well, maybe with the exception of some points, what I don't want to do/can't do is purchase $140-some-odd dollars of subscription until I need it, aka july 16th.)
So, in short, can I set up auto renew/re-enter my card info without having to purchase anything AND take advantage of this time deal, or am I just Short On Luck and to take advantage of this I would have to buy a full year/half year sub during this time window?
Go to your account (either in game or from the website), go to billing summary, then "change card".

i dont mean to sound funny, but this is probably the most useless promotion ive heard in a while, feel free to correct me with some actual points on this, but i dont think its much use, 1 free month for us Europeans since we cant get the 12 month deal is pretty pathetic.
i can see alot of people jumping on the hate wagon after this comment but i call it as it is, so feel free to give your opinions, but i certainly wont be taking the "opportunity" for this "super speed deal".

Here is a funny one: The recent winner of the MMORPG contest (5 year) can sign up for the 12+2 now, but it won't come into effect until his current time lapses (ie. at least 5 years from now).
