Not saying that this precedent means they should start selling badges (because holy crap, please do not do that), I'm just saying that the precedent is wrong and also that Posi is full of it.

You also forgot the "Agent of X" (Order/Chaos/Praetoria).
Would I like for them to be earned in other ways? Yes. Would I have preferred none of them to be attached to any money at all? Absolutely.
I think the best solution is to still put any badges associated with out of game actions to a new "account" section. That way they can be safely ignored like the supergroup badges.

I'd only accept purchasable badges if it was a super-badge pack that gave all badges for a very high cost like $100, so only really rich players or the most commited badge-hunters would be able to buy them.
Even then, I think there'd be some objection to it
