How do you delete your 50s?
I just can't delete a 50 - too many good memories are attached to each one. I have 8 - 4 each on 2 servers - so plenty of time and servers to fill up first.
My first - a Sword/Regen Scrapper - reached 50 soon after the level expansion in 2004. He still has all of his pre-ED enhancement slotting. I still take him out to play once a month and to pay the SG rent and maybe "arrest" a few PI baddies. I tried doing Tips with him but he is just not very fun to play with the ED nerfs in effect. Fond memories with this character.
I am very grateful for all the server space so that I probably will never have to make a delete decision on any of my 50's.
I've deleted a few, mostly due to social things. Since transfers were made available I did it less often. I strip 'em down, throw their stuff in a bin, then log out and nuke 'em. It's very easy.
I have never deleted a 50 and likely never will. Especially since the few 50s I have are attached to so many sentimental memories.

I don't delete 50's, I just move them to Freedom to die.
Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.
I haven't deleted a 50 yet. I did use the free server transfers we got a while back to move a few to unused servers though. The highest I've actually deleted so far was a level 40. I do have a 50 on the chopping block, but that's because it's going to be re-rolled due to powerset proliferation. I just haven't gotten around to it yet.
Other than that I doubt I'd ever delete a 50 as long as I have server transfer tokens piled up. I figure I might as well move them off somewhere and let them sit. This game has undergone so many changes over the years, there's no telling if the toon I abandon might end up not sucking someday.
I've deleted a few 50's now. It's not that hard. I make sure the inf has been transfered off and any salvage & insp have been put into the base first. If there are any I/O set items I want, I'll do a free respec frist to grab them and sell the rest of the stuff off if possible. Then I go to the character screen and delete it. It's just stuff. It's not an investment with real value. I don't invest time into the game, I use it to escape so it's more like time well spent.
You can always move the toon to a different server and use the empty slot to make the new toon if you want. Then you don't have to delete them. If that helps.
Demonfest - 50 - Demon / Thermal Mastermind
Covered Shadow - 50 - Dark Melee / Shield Scrapper
Re: Moving shards.
Duh, I mis-spoke. You don't move Shards, you buy vouchers with Astral Merits that other toons on the account can claim via email as Shards.
I also noticed that there are several other options with the Astral and Emp merits, like recipes and regular merits. Here is the overview.

When I was stripping the 2nd account 50's neither had enough Incarnate stuff to bother about, so I was slipshod in researching that, sorry.

I have not deleted a level 50 and dont think I could.I think the highest toon I have deleted was a level 24 MM. I do have some level 50 characters that dont see much action such as my level 50 SS/Stone brute. I originally made this character to tank the LRSF when it was new and hard. With the LRSF being easier in modern times, that brute has not been played in 2 years.
I have a level 44 Ninja/Traps MM that has been suck at that level for 2 years, but he is on a server that I dont play on much. Traps is awesome but Ninjas die so easily.
Wow am I in the minority here. When I get a new toon to lvl 50, I delete the old one. I only keep one active 50 on red and blue side. For me it is the journey. That and I have yet to find the high level material enjoyable. That said, I have yet to try the Incarnate stuff.
I've deleted a couple of level 50s - mostly I just got tired of them and they weren't living up to expectations. So, knowing that I wasn't going to decide to suddenly want them back, I just deleted them after stripping all of their IOs and dropping them off in base storage. Usually I don't even get them to 50 if I feel this way about them, but it's happened a couple of times.
Most of them just go to another server to retire via free transfers, though.
it has gone from unconscionable to downright appalling that we have no way of measuring our characters' wetness.
