Any way around graphics driver check?
Here's a photo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/67891333@N03/6333346706/
I am having the exact same issue. I am also on an ASUS laptop, the G73Jh. The only way to update the video drivers for the laptop is to update the BIOS. The game was working fine with the current video driver set up until today's patch. And now, even after re-installing the game, I'm unable to start the game.
I have the same laptop and have the same problem. So does a friend of mine. Is there any way around the driver check?
I am having the exact same issue too. I have tried to install the Catalyst and it hasn't worked at all. Same computer as the rest on this list. Hope to get an update soon.
I am not locked out, but I have red text on the loginscreen(and my login screen is custom art I spent a long time on, the text is abnormally aggrevating me ), and an extra popup the first time I patched today(not repeating on future gamelaunches so far, time will tell for future patches retripping it).
We could play fine yesterday.
The game graphics haven't been upgraded.
We should be able to play unobstructed today as well.
It's not like upgraded drivers actually DO anything(please don't start a rant on how helpful they are, people have tried unsuccessfully to convince me in previous threads).
IMO if your graphicscard runs coh when you buy the pc/install the new card trying to upgrade drivers only stands to harm your gaming quality, AND your computer's graphics as a whole.
Being bullied into upgrading my drivers in this forum caused permanent damage to my laptop, and spent hours to roll back, and to this day every time my pc is restarted a folder opens when I login pointing to an empty "C:\program files\ati". Yeah. "upgraded" drivers are great .
I pm'd Zwillinger about this issue, but he's never responded to anything I PMd him requesting assistance with . I also had not known it was this severe for another chunk of people. Time to PM Tex I guess, it doesn't take a rocketscientist to know this was all him .
Sorry if I seem aggrevated, today's patch has shown nothing but poor taste from NCSoft, and finely displayed the damage done when a production manager rushes a devteam to shove a patch out the door.

I'm glad it's not just me.
I almost sent in my laptop for repairs (although I still might, I've been having trouble with it).
Anyway, I hope they fix this quickly.
Made an AR/Dev blaster, had fun. Then ED came. AR/Dev sucked. Quit for two years. Came back for a while. AR/Dev still sucks. Quit after getting bored again. Came back. AR/Dev still sucks.
lol. Tex; the redname who encourages people to break their PCs by updating perfectly good drivers, "has chosen not to receive private messages". Brilliant. *picks another dev to pm*

I have decided to jump ship never been much on the forums admittedly but have had my fair share of ups and downs with the game last couple years.
Hope y'all can get a fix if you decide to stick with the game and best of luck!
Cameron.
I'd love to be able to get in game during the weekend, but it looks like that's not going to happen.

We've identified this issue internally, and are working on a fix. At the moment I don't have an official ETR, however I would expect it very soon.

I'm also having this problem with the ASUS G73Jh laptop. I'm really hoping this gets fixed soon, because I'd actually cleared today to get caught up in City. =/

If any of you happen to be *very advanced users* (i.e.; you know your way around a computer extremely well) some information that would be helpful for us to pass along to AMD for debugging would be:
WARNING: DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS IF YOU ARE NOT AN ADVANCED WINDOWS USER. WE DO NOT WANT YOU TO BREAK YOUR COMPUTER.
- Set Write debugging information to Small memory dump when a bluescreen of death occurs. This is located under the Advanced System Settings menu on Windows 7.
- Update the System Restore point so Windows can revert back to before the buggy driver installation.
- Install the newer AMD drivers and let the operating system blue screen. Wait until it finishes writing the minidump file in the C:\windows\Minidump directory.
- Load from the saved System Restore point to revert back to the previous driver.
- Email cohcommunity@paragonstudios.com with the resultant file. We'll forward that on to AMD.

Does this mean that you're going to attempt to make the newest driver compatible with City of Heroes?
If so, in the mean time, could you roll back that driver block update?

I just want to point out that Tex is a glorified forum user, a volunteer tech head, not a developer hired on to Paragon Studios. Or at least, that's what he was introduced as, I don't know if his status has changed since then.

I've been a programmer on City of Heroes since before I17 working on mainly graphics related stuff (like Ultra Mode features).
I've been doing games programming for over 10 years now, and before that, I worked on NASA projects for over 5 years, specifically for the Space Shuttle and Space Station.
Hmm.
There were two forum volunteers introduced a while back, and I could have sworn one of them was you. Hmm, hmm. I wonder who they were. *chin scratch*

I've been getting the outdated graphics warning for a about two months now...
Important: Your computer appears to be using older drivers for your video and 'ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670' with driver dated 07-06-2010.
Driver version is 8.753-100706m-102501C-ATI and is working just fine on my Asus laptop. So... I'm not touching it.

And I guess with it being so late in the afternoon the possible patch for the UI bug we were warned could get patched this afternoon won't be patched this afternoon, but postponed to likely tuesday AM? It would be nice if this could be in that publish to get these players back in-game, but after your explanation of "sending out" the publishes for NC to prep to distribute I guess that's not possible(I previously wasn't aware patches were "sent" to someone to end up hitting our patchers, I thought the Paragon Studios NorCal team released them to us, that explains the need for timetables then.).
btw thanks for the confirmation this is being looked at .

And as for him not accepting PMs, he doesn't post on the forums that often. So it's better in that case to not accept PMs which pile up. When he posts he generally asks for specific info that either he just has posted to the thread or is too big/not right for PMs.

Negaduck: I see you found the crumb. I knew you'd never notice the huge flag.
GPU and Tex were never officially introduced. As a matter of fact, when asked about their positions and what their status was we were given vague answers at the time.
Neither of them had PM's enabled from the day they appeared. I know, I looked.
I've not seen a post from GPU in a while, but that doesn't mean they aren't still around.
And to be honest, I've seen Tex ask people to go back to an older driver when there were known issues with newer drivers.
If Tex is at the Pummit and is willing to let me know who they are, they'll be invited to join our Meet & Eat groups.
If nothing else, I'll buy Tex a beverage of their choice if they are at the Pummit.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
Unfortunately, I will not be at the Freedom Player Summit. I already have other obligations (like coaching my son's soccer team).
Thanks for the invitation and I'll have to take you up on the beverage some other time.

Here's my solution:
I d/l-ed the latest AMD driver. (which was 11.10 preview)
I d/l-ed Phyxion's driver sweeper program.
Uninstalled the driver (and removed files) using the control panel's devices tab/icon.
Rebooted in safe mode. Windows re-installed the driver. I uninstalled the driver again (and removed files) from the control panel just to be safe.
Ran the sweeper program.
Rebooted.
Windows re-installed the device. However, I ran the AMD install.
Rebooted the system as directed.
Checked the device and driver details. The driver date was 10/6/11. atioglxx.dll was located in the windows/sysWOW64 directory.
Started CoX with no error!

Same machine same problem exactly. The thing is I am using the newest drivers available from ASUS. I updated the bios and every thing else. I then went and got the most recent drivers from ASUS which happen to be the exact same ones as in the OP picture. It still thinks my drivers are too old. I tried installing the AMD drivers for my mobility card and that just makes everything unstable as hell. So this is not an old driver issue. They have just decided to put drivers on their cant play list that have no business being there.
I'm on an Asus Laptop with current drivers from the manufacturer and they are listed as too old or not supported here which was fine until latest patch. Now I get completely locked out!!??
We get BSOD's if we use the catalyst drivers from ATI (as also mentioned on Asus own support site.)
Can anyone help me out? I have a support ticket that's been open for quite a while now and thought I'd send a message here also, to try to get all the angles. Thanks much!
