Best use of 3D in a movie...
I heartily concur The unashamed use of every 3D gimmick in the book is above par for the course
I've pretty much given up on this latest "fad" of 3D movies. They just seem to bring it back every 5 or 10 years in a continuing attempt to make it work. Don't get me wrong - they do keep making improvements in the technology and maybe in a few more decades it'll finally be commonplace and non-annoying.
But I might be willing to see something like Harold and Kumar in 3D as long as they don't take the 3D "seriously" and make fun of it by doing a bunch of dumb spoofy gimmicks with it.

The biggest problem that 3D has had this generation is that very few movies have a) Shot in 3D to start with and tacking it on afterwards always looks poor and b) Not made 3D a gimmick (hurling things at the screen, etc) as opposed to a part of the environment.
The only movie I've seen with genuinely good 3D was Avatar, because it was shot with 3D in mind and was used as a backdrop to the rest of the film rather than shoved in your face every 30 seconds.

But yeah, after that, I've seen no reason to actually go to a 3D movie. It's been wasted.

Avatar had great 3d in that it made the characters seem more real. I was surprised when I heard people talking about how "cartoony" it looked because it had looked highly realistic to me when I saw it in 3d. Then I watched it again when it came out on cable and I thought I was watching Shrek. The 3d really does make all the difference in that movie which is why I would have to say it's the best "use" of 3d.
I really liked the 3d in Up.
Now I'm definitely going to have to see H&K in 3d though if they make full use of and fun of the gimmick.

It was definitely done in a parodical and spoofy manner. The movie did not take the 3D "seriously" and had fun with it.

Avatar was the gold standard, in IMAX.
The very last 3D movie I saw was Tron: Legacy, in XD 3D. It was *awful*, for me. When I finally got it on DVD and in 2D, I was never so happy to finally *SEE* the movie the way I needed to: Clearly, and brightly. Which means that 3D is done, unless it's IMAX, and even then... Meh.

Well... perhaps I was premature about that whole 'signing off' thing... - 11-9-2012
Andy Warhol's classic liver on a spear is hard to beat, though.
A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas.
Srsly.
Granted, the movie wasn't quite as funny as the first two, but was overall a decent enough flick. There were enough shout outs and callbacks to the first two, as well as making fun of Kal Penn having worked for the White House.
