Sewer (Death from below) needs xp reduction
You know, return business is a big part of retail. And for some of us who've run toons through 1-20 hundreds of times, it's not something I look forward to. Oh sure, in the beginning, it was lots of fun, but it got to be a dreaded grind.
The DFB put a whole new fire to create new toons. Return Customer!
And I love the DFB just the way it is! 5 AVs right from the get-go? That's awesome! A big lure of this game is that you start as a superhero with superpowers. You don't start as some goofy 1-hit-wonder out slaughtering rats. You actually get to fight low lvl AVs. I'm all for it, and was so excited to see it. Not because I'm getting AV xp at lvl 1-6, but because of the content itself.
I like the DFB just the way it is.

AKA: Ath BS/SD Brute (Hero)
"The Fall and Rise of Athanatos" Arc ID: 521712
Outcast Cooler - "Those who live by the sword get shot by those who don't."
The mobs in DFB give no more rewards than the same mobs anywhere else in the game.
If a Fallen Gunner gives X XP in DFB, then it gives X XP outside of it as well.
Unless you want Hellions, Vahz and Lost to have their XP nerfed in general.
You will level no faster than running 3-4 missions on a large team, it just goes a little quicker because there is no travel time between the missions.

I'm really not sure where you were seeing that I disagree with the trial being in as a low level option. I really like it as an alternative to the Hashaby/Twinshot lowbie stuff.
But. That's the thing though. Low level. If we are in fact considering this low level, say 1-10, then it's being used for well (WELL) beyond that. A single low level event should not be this repeatable for so much easy, powerful leveling. I just think the XP gains could be tweaked to stop giving so much earlier on or being worth for the XP *once*. I think it's distorting to see such an easy and short event that allows for such a rocket in levels. Some like it, yes, because it's easy. As has been said elsewhere, many times over, people will flock to the shortest, easiest path to success. Ideally, I'd like to see trials for every 10 level ranges or so. So, 1-10, people do the Sewer Trial. Levels 11-20, let's say a Clockwork warehouse rush. 21-30, tomb raiding to stop a ritual. Etc. If someone wants to take their character and level purely through trials, sure, but I'd like to see it be more than a single, low level trial. People are using it for much more than low level content. They're not just bypassing the new Atlas Bottleneck, they're skipping straight past King's Row, The Hollows, Steel Canyon, Faultline, and even Talos and beyond. That's just ridiculous. |
Forbin is correct. Sadly people looking for a quick ride to whatever level is nothing new at all. I can recall a Double XP weekend a few years back where on Sunday evening (last night of the event) there were more characters below 20 in PI than there were above 40 (you know .. the levels the zone is designed for). Back then we didn't even have SSK so the posts in broadcast that night included low levels willing to pay almost anything, per run, to get as many levels as possible before the event ended, Farmers advertising their farm and the rates they expected if you wanted to join and players willing to serve as mentors for a price .. in short it looked a lot more like a bordello than a game revolving around courageous "RIGHTEOUS" super heroes.
That of course gave way to AE farms and the "I made it from level 1 to level 50 in 2 hours" bragging.
Now I personally have created a few (3 to be exact) characters recently and each one has used the Death from Below trial. I run 4 of them to take advantage of the 4 available buffs (Damage, Accuracy, Recharge, and Defense) and then move on. Is it fast.. yes my Brute got on an 8 man team that managed 4 trials in 1 hour and 5 minutes (including brief times in between to recruit when members left). At the end the Brute was a level 14 and was almost half way to 15. But the higher you get the slower it is to level .. Sure at level 2 when I did the first trail I emerged a level 6 and by the end of trial 2 I was a 10 or 11 level.. but over those next 2 trials I managed only 3 more levels. The fact is despite team size the mobs remain a constant..Join a 4 man team or an 8 man one and still you face a series of 11 man mobs all the way through. So there is only so much xp to be earned and the higher your level the MORE you need to attain the next. I have to imagine that at some point it starts requiring multiple trials just to attain a single level.
The advantage, so to speak, is no travel time at all.. heck you could technically hang out right next to Ms. Liberty and train, if required, as fast as you come out and of course there are trainers inside that allow your character to train up before even enterig the next portion of the trial itself.
The fact is since the game began or shortly afterwards some players have been finding ways to skip what is considered normal and rocket through levels .. Nerfing the trial will only accomplish two things..
Punishing anyone, like me, that isn't trying to make it to 50 without leaving Atlas Park and just really wants the added advantage of those 4 buffs
or sending everyone scurrying back to AE to build more PL farms
At some point we just have to take a deep breath and let it pass.. otherwise what's the next suggestion diminishing returns on ToTing.. Head to PI and watch the ToT leagues as they form ... Half the members, me included, are well below level 40 and have come there not just to collect salvage and badges but to grab levels quickly. The problem is .. PI seems to be ToT central this year. I have seen a few ToT teams/leagues elsewhere but there have been at least 2 Peregrin Islands since the event began and it seems like everyone is just headed there to get their badges and free costumes. Last night I arrived in PI a level 37 with 2 bars to go for 38 and in about 90 minutes I emerged a level 39... with all of my halloween badges and a Halloween tip mission.

Devs, players, everyone...
Just leave well enough alone.
Keep tinkering with the engine and eventually the car won't start...
I'm just sayin'...
More to the point:
The devs are aware that their revamp of Atlas Park and Mercy Island has made it so there is very little variation of the content from 1-10.
They also understand that players are not going to want to run the Habashy/SecondContact/Thiery/Twinshot story arcs over and over with every character they ever create, so they gave us a means that is NOT in AE to bypass those arcs if we so choose.
Why did they do that? Simple, they could only cram so much content into one issue release. They gave us (if villainside is equivalent in number) 10 brand new beginning story arcs, that's more new story arcs than we usually got in TWO issue releases previously. And they are actually fairly well written, as opposed to the "Collect a Clockwork piece from a random person in the park for a reason that is only vaguely explained" style of the original beginning contacts.
I strongly suspect that the devs are working on eliminating a large chunk of the original content and starting from scratch, leaving all of the original content in Ouroboros so you can still play it. Which means, basically, that anything released before Striga Isle and Croatoa will probably be replaced in the fairly near future.
Some of the story arcs could easily be revamped a la the Positron TF, but given the devs' track record they will probably just replace it and put the old content in Ouroboros.

I find it odd that people find it hard to find anything else in this game to do, that they think there's only the DFB Trial.

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.
They've been doing the same thing for years hanging out in PI begging to be power leveled, by getting sidekicked on high level TF's and teams, and running AE farms. As long as they aren't abusing any exploits, or breaking any rules it's none of our business how they choose to play the game.
Forcing people to do things they don't enjoy isn't going to encourage them to stick around, and all that you'll accomplish with the ones that don't like it but do stay for the end-game is make them anti-social.
