Time to Sell Up!

21.5 brings one significant change to the market: an infinite supply of emp merits.
purples and pvp IOs are going to be very easily farmable, should we be selling up now? Or do you think their demand will prevent much of a price dip even with the increased supply?

He may or may not be referring to the beta only mechanic which allows testers to purchase Empyrean merits from the vendor in Ouroboros for only 1 inf.

It's more likely he's referring to the two new trials (one which will come out with I21.5, the other some time after) which will offer 2 Empyrean merits upon completion, yet will still offer 1 Empyrean merit during the 20 hour cooldown.

Yes this is it.
If those new trials are actually playable enough to have a chance of getting teams for them, the fact that you can get an infinite number of Emps is a very big deal.
You could farm enough to get the most expensive recipes in a couple of days.

I suspect prices might be about to plummet in a way this game has never seen.

Okay it is limited only by the amount of time we can play.
So I guess our rl commitments and lifespans are limiting factors.

And limited by how long it takes to complete the Trial.

And it's more lucrative to have a bunch of alts and have each run the Trial once a day for the 2 Emps rather than grinding the same alt through and getting only 1 Emp after the first.

I wonder if you will be able to trade them in for hospitalization

Okay.
Judging from the responses, I don't think anyone is expecting a change in prices.

I guess the wait and see approach is the best tactic. That is until we can see how farmable the mish is at least...

I don't think the playerbase is smart enough to save up emps for PvP recipes. Of the ones who do I think about half are still dumb enough to pick something other than the big three.

Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.

That is kind of what concerns me. I'm not worried about people saving up Emps to sell recipes and make money.

I am more worried about them deciding it is easier to just spend a few hours farming up the Emps required to buy whatever recipe it is they want instead of paying inf for it.

Then again, LotGs and similar recipes that cost two alignment merits have been remaining constant in price even though the SSAs made them very easily farmable.

I think that the people who plot and scheme along these lines are already loaded and don't need to get recipes this way. I've been hitting the SSA and could buy over 50 LotG +recharge right now. In actuality, I have not spent a single A-Merit since the SSA was introduced. I don't 'need' to buy any recipes with them and I don't need recipes to sell for funds.

Then why am I stockpiling them? I dunno. My main toon has like 7000 reward merits and just under 10,000 Vanguard merits. I guess I'm dreaming of the day they introduce purple sets for healing, resistance and defense.....

As with reward merits, all it will do is give irrelevant people a greater feeling of control over things they don't need and a goal to work towards.

These people are practically market-parallel rather than actual market agents. Don't sweat it, this change isn't going to make purples meaningfully cheaper.

People who are serious about farming the itrials can already earn 'infinite' empyrean merits by using multiple characters. Run Lam, run BAF, switch characters, repeat. I would expect such behavior to continue post-patch since the reward will be doubled for the first run. Assuming the other trials take about the same time to complete, then the number of emp merits being generated by farmers will be doubled, not increased to infinity.

How many players actually do this now, and how many will be doing it post-patch? My uneducated guesses are: not many and not many.
