I can fly!

OK I can't really fly, but over the past 20 years I have had a recurring dream that I can. It is always extremely vivid and realistic. I stand with my arms stretched out to either side, and begin to sway back and forth a bit in a field of trees. I eventually begin to float, and then fly, in a standing position with my arms stretched out to the sides.

Then one of two things happen. I either end up in my old high school and float above everyone through the hallways, and up/over stairs, or I end up staying outside, flying over lots of beautiful settings and realizing that I have absolutely no idea how to get back down.

The second scenario usually ends with me waking me up a little bit frightened.

Anywho, do any of you have recurring dreams about superhuman abilities?

I've flown a few times while dreaming, in a few different locales. Except I have only ever flown about as fast as I could run (which is still a good pace, since I am/was a sprinter). And I think I had a dream ONCE where I was Cyclops, haha.

Why does that sound like the first episode of Heroes?

Anywho, no super powered dreams, mine are usually fighting Aliens(Ripley ones) or some other monster with some kind of firepower....have had a couple that woke me up because things didn't go so well.....

I have the most boring dreams in all creation. I literally have dreams about going shopping or attending a class in college (fully clothed). That's about the height of excitement for my sleepy-self.

I occasionally get REALLY ambitious and dream about going to Disney World... but the dream consists entirely of me being in the parking lot and trying to reach the park.. never actually going inside. I seem to remember I DID actually make it inside during one dream but the park was closed and all the rides were turned off.

I sometimes suspect that my daydreams and awake-imaginings are so bizarre and vivid that my brain compensates by mundane-loading during the night.

Sounds like fun!

I'll usually lucid dream, so my dreams often involve superheroic feats and adventures, or some kind of fantastical element. Just last night I had a dream that I was working with a few other scientists on a formula to exponentially increase plant growth - needless to say, the trope played out exactly like you think, and it was up to a few specially equipped people to shut down the project before plants expanded and made the world like like Hamidon's Praetoria.

I've experimented with a few super abilities - flight came the easiest, but teleportation and size changing are difficult. The best way I can describe using those powers is that you have to "draw" your surroundings as they would be if you had succeeded, in order to be Godzilla sized or Bamf to a completely different location.

I have tried the whole lucid-dreaming thing on a number of occasions. I never managed to stick with it long enough to really learn how to do it. I would love to, but I'm too lazy, I guess.

I also have the recurring flight dream. I tend to take off by pushing down with my hands on either side of me, as if lifting myself on parallel bars or something. I usually fly for a bit, but then get nervous about going too high, lest I suddenly lose the ability to stay afloat.

You know, now that you mention it, it's weird. I have this recurring dream in which I'm back at the ol' school, and some yahoo is floating above everyone in the hallway and up and down stairwells. I think, "Wow, that's terribly inconsiderate. Aside from the fact that he's lording it over everyone, what happens if he drops a book or something?" I then use my reality-bending will to turn off his control of this power. He goes outside to take in some nice settings and all, and simply floats away, never to be seen again.

Being able to fly is a very common adolescent dream but most people stop dreaming about that shortly after. Maybe the series of dreams last perhaps a year, or two. Some references believe they may be the pressure of up and coming examinations and the onset of puberty and so this is our "future" calling to us where we will finally reach our potential.

Or maybe it's just a wet dream gone wrong.

As long as I can remember I don't have much success with flying in dreams. The odd thing is that I often dream that I know that I can fly and that I used to do it all the time but somehow at that exact moment I am unable to do so.

My dreams are normally pretty action packed but most of the time I'm more of a soldier kind of guy or at least adequate with weaponry and pretty athletic. This last week I was dreaming about being a chased by a car with a chainsaw on it's roof and the remote controll app was on my iPhone which was that car so I jumped through the window while the car was driving grabbed my phone and finally stopped the car...I was exhausted when I woke up...

I used to dream I could fly. I still do, but I used to too.

Mine are always dreams of falling a great distance, and slowly coming to the conclusion that I am not going to hit ground, so start trying to control the fall(Thats kinda like flying right? Throwing yourself at the ground and missing?). Funny thing is, I have never parachuted, but that is exactly what I imagine a freefall with a glider suit to be like.

I also get dreams where I am drowning only to realise I can actually breathe, and end up chilling out swimming and exploring. Merman Dad. I'm a Merman!

The one ability that I have in every single dream (at least every dream in which it might come up) is the ability to not be injured. Stab me, shoot me, hit me with a car, drop a cliff on me or whatever. The most that happens is I feel a slight ache and continue on as if nothing had happened.

If I had been in Nightmare on Elm Street III then Freddie would have been seriously annoyed.

Other abilities that show up occasionally are flight and the ability to phase through object at will.

I usually have superpowers when I dream. Stuff like shooting fireballs, walking through walls, flying, making other people fly, and once even crafting a gigantic cloud-animal as a pet. I have no idea why I thought of that one. If I remember right I also could time/dimension travel in that dream. I don't know, I guess I'm just really creative when I dream. And of course altering reality at whim.

My favorite power though was the ability to cut stuff. WITH MY MIND! Solid steel wall, SHIICK cut in two. Building? Two halves of a building! Pretty much anything was cut-able.

My mother has had this type of dream for years. She recently realized that she has sleep apnea . She woke up during one of her drowning dreams and found that she wasn't breathing in real life either. It seems that the reason for her having the dream was her subconscious mind reminding her that she can breathe.

So, yeah, it's a neat style dream to have; but you might want to get checked out.

As for me, I had a recurring dream when I was young. I won't bore you with the details, but the dream revolved around me needing to stop someone from ruining everything. I had this dream once a year for five years. The first time, the bad guy won and wrecked everything. Each time I had the dream, I stood up to the bad guy more and more until by the fifth year, I was flying around and super strong and totally kicked the bad guy's ***. Once I kicked his ***, I never had the dream again.

I still dream of flying on a somewhat regular basis.

My most interesting recent dream involved superpowers too. Somehow I had become a part of a family with ties to the fae. Half the family had ice-breath; the other half had fire-breath. (If you've ever taken a look at my character list, you'll be able to guess which side of the family I ended up on). The dream was very interesting. By the time it ended I was nearly sure that I'd be able to wake up and breathe fire, or at least burning steam. The ironic thing here is that with all the fire/ or /fire characters that I have, none of them actually have the fire breath power atm.

Apparently, I have the super power of evaporating dreams when I sleep. I know it's common, but I cannot tell you what goes on in any of my dreams because I literally forget everything near instantly after waking up.

And I seem so mechanical when I wake up too. My alarm goes off and my hand instantly jolts to the off switch without a groggy grope around for the alarm. It's like a switch where I go from sleep > wake.

I know I dream, though. If the TV is on, I'll occasionally remember tidbits of what I heard and an image of how my head represented it. But I literally couldn't tell you what I had dreamed last night, when I was little or anything. Even when I wake up and tell someone what I dreamed, I'll forget what I said later and if someone reminds me I'll only remember telling them about it but not the dream itself.

I tried keeping a dream journal at one point but by the time I put the pencil to the paper, I forget half the dream. And when I start focusing on writing a sentence, I've forgotten the rest.

I have a recurring dream that involves Kate Beckinsale, Scarlett Johannsen, a Twister game, and a gallon of Wesson oil.

But that's a story for another day and another forum, I think.

I used to fiddle with my back feet music for a black onyx. My entire room absorbed every echo. The music was . . . thud like. The music was . . . thud like. I usually played such things as rough-neck and thug. Opaque melodies that would bug most people. Music from the other side of the fence.

The one recurring dream I had for a while when I was younger (high school-ish, I think) involved tossing a large object back and forth with someone across a chasm . I don't recall now if this other person had an identity, we never communicated. The object was boulder-like and both the tosses and catches were double-handed overhead. The thing about the object is that it increased in size with every toss so eventually it filled the sky. Now, while the object was weighty, its weight was not a concern and both of us could catch and toss it easily using a little bit of umph. Even when the object got to be titanic in size, both of us could still fling it very high in to the air. The only factors in my mind (for the dream) was anticipating the (very soon) very large falling object and estimating and managing the balance on the catch, for example I might have to briefly support it with my head for a 3 point catch or chest to correcting a fumble. No fumble ever occurred during the several dreams. The dreams usually end when the object gets so big that it was too fantastical to seem real anymore and I stop participating. The object never lands.

Note: while I said that in my dreams that the only thing I was only concerned about was the mechanics of catches, however the actual vague primary purpose of this activity was really the tosses. On my later dreams, I did ponder during the dream if there was a reason for tossing this object back and forth, but it was never resolved.

The last dream I can remember, that I can talk about here , had me and a friend of mine pulling a heist at a department store in Japan. I have no idea what neurons fired to come up with that scenario.

Most of my flying dreams had me in a flying vehicle of some kind, near space capable.
