Alignment System

If I take a villain to rogue while VIP, will I still be able to play the character as Premium if Alignment System is not purchased?

You'd probably have to ask Paragon themselves. I think the toon would be locked in the same way Masterminds would be locked.

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

Was thinking someone might have tried it that could relate experience.

I'm not certain. I expect its oh 75% likely you could play the character but not move their alignment either direction. IE do the actual alignment tip missions to move alignment. And 25% likely the character would be locked out.

I have submitted question and will update when I get a response.

My imaginings would be thus:

If you're a Vigilante, you would become a Hero.

If you're a Rogue, you would become Villain.

If you were a hero or villain that had switch sides FULLY, you would remain on that side (and be unable to go back to your original side until you went through the Alignment process again)

That's my imaginings.

I would expect that a character's alignment would be locked and they would no longer be able to get tip missions or use hero/villain merits.

Actually tip missions can be gotten by any body. It is that 11th alignment mission that requires the alignment system. If you don't have that you don't get the alignment tip when you fill your alignment bar.

Interesting. I didn't know that. What happens when you fill the tip mission bar and cannot do the alignment mission? No more tips drop?

Pretty sure they keep dropping even if you can (but choose not to) do the alignment mission, so I'd expect they'd still drop if you couldn't do the alignment mission. 5-a-day cooldown notwithstanding of course.

This is how I would expect it to work.

Hi,

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the question, but how would you have gotten from Villain to Rogue in the first place without having purchased the Alignment system (either via GR purchase, or buying the Alignment system in the Paragon Market)?

You have access to the alignment system while you're a VIP. You don't have to purchase it to change alignments. When your subscription stops, you drop to premium that has not bought the alignment system.

Ah, so a hypothetical new paying customer could drop to Premium and not have any previously-available-to-us way of keeping the alignment system. Got it, thanks Dechs.

As for what might happen, I'd speculate no more progress on any alignment bars, but hey, what do I know.

If you are a tourist alignment, you retain that as a Premium.

Verfied in game.

Have you perhaps previously bought Going Rogue or Alignment System?

Nope. That was on a $2 account from the promotion. New character, started as a hero, and became a tourist during the month "free" sub.

Currently sat in the Rogue isles acquiring a redside day job.

I think the Helper got confused.

Maybe he meant that you can't become a Rogue without the alignment system.

Bad Voodoo by @Beyond Reach. Arc ID #373659. Level 20-24. Mr. Bocor has fallen victim to a group of hooded vigilantes who have been plaguing Port Oakes, interfering with illegal operations and pacifying villain's powers. He demands that revenge is taken on these miscreants and his powers are returned! You look like just the villain for the job. Challenging.
