Recently got combat pets on the Awards tree.

Can you actually Vengeance a defeated Light Fairy?

Thanks, Jak

I do love the RP potential of summoning a fairy into the middle of a spawn to soak the alpha, then casting vengeance and slaughtering them as payback.

That would be a wonderfuly fun psychotic villain or vigilante.

I might actually have found the idea for the stalker I'm starting up over on exalted, hehe. Not sure, but it's a maybe.

I can be found, outside of paragon city here.
Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.

I have used the vet pets to soak an alpha on occasion; IMO that's about the most useful purpose they can serve.

Indeed!

Got a rather large group around that corner? Summon your combat pet in the middle of them and wait for the distraction!

I think you can shield them though, I'm pretty sure I saw a power drone caked in Ice the other day.

Also, I recently read in the KB thread that someone puts Repulsion Bomb on theirs and lets it work it's magic.

You can buff them like any other pet, but their inherent self-res debuff means that a single hit will almost always kill them. They also appear to have a higher threat level than you as "undecided" mobs will usually pick them to attack first over you.

Thanks all for the how to use these pets ideas.

I was curious as the Paragon Wiki article for Veteran's Rewards ( http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Veteran_Reward_Powers ) for the 48 month Combat-Buff Pets states that

"Only the Light/Dark Fairy Pet seem to leave a targetable corpse."

and a targetable corpse should allow Veng.

Only actual player characters can be used as Vengeance targets. I assume it can be targeted for purposes of Dark Extraction and the like.

They can be targeted for buffs and such but the devs have coded veng (and rez) strictly for players only.

I found this to be true and hilarious as enemies run well past me to hit the pet before turning on me.

True, but they don't have any inherent defense debuffs - so you can buff their defense and they live (longer).

A targetable corpse is not a requirement for Vengeance (indeed, it is possible to get Vengeance off of a player who used Self Destruction, last I checked). Vengeance's only targeting requirement is that the target be a dead player. This means that dead pets don't work, even if they leave a corpse.
