The Strange Case of level 1 Hellions...

So, I noticed something odd yesterday. I put it down to being level 1...but the wierdness continued even at level 2.

Here are excerpts from todays tested combat logs;

Quote:
You have defeated Blood Brother Slammer
You gain 16 experience and 12 influence

You have defeated Bloody Brother Slammer
You gain 10 experience and 7 influence

You have defeated Blood Brother Slammer
You gain 12 experience and 9 influence
Now, what's so unusual about that?

Those are done in order. Level 1 through to level 3 minions. No outside influences, never before been touched by NPCs or Players.

The level 1s give more than the level 3s.

They give more than level 4s, too. They only give 14 exp and 10 inf.
They only start making sense again at level 5, where you get 22 exp and 15 inf.

So, what the heck is going on here?

(All testing done with a level 2 Enrg/Time Corr)

Looks like level one's have a boost because the game wants to get you to 2 as soon as possible?

Along those lines of thinking, it's possible that level 1s have an XP bonus, because as a level 1 player (only having 2 total powers) they're considered to be more challenging than a level 2 player vs a level 2 Hellion, that xp bonus carrying over a few extra levels is just a side effect.

I noticed this the other day. I'm glad it wasn't me going crazy. (Ok, ok...)

As others have suggested maybe it's just getting you that boost because if you are a new player you probably won't have access to the Vet Weapons... and if you do, getting to lvl 2 or level 3 isn't exactly cumbersome.

I guess there's been a shift in attitude - when I first joined the game getting to level 10 in an afternoon would be considered pretty good going for a new toon, now it's as though they want you to be there ASAP.

No bad thing IMO.

I believe you were only ever supposed to be level 1 for the Tutorial, so when they finally let us skip it, we were intended to blow by level one as fast as possible anyway.

The puzzling thing is, until level 1s con grey, it's actually better exp to beat up lots of level 1s than it is to beat up the same amount of equal levels. When you are level 5/6 it stops being economic/worth it, but it is quite an interesting point to note.

So being exemplared to lvl 2 and beating on lvl 1 until you hit 50 is the way to go? ;-)

that would be mind numbingly boring.

Been this way forever. When I don't feel like sewers I run straight to AE at level 1 and grab a mission with a lot of enemies. Very fast way to hit level 5.

Your exemplaring idea doesn't work, I tried it long ago. It's because when exemplared you aren't getting the normal exp values, you are getting a value pulled out of thin air based on your actual level.

Sarcasm and internet.... I know, I thought the smiley would help though, apparently it didn't.

Not exactly a secret when there's a whole farm built around the concept and a large discussion thread on these forums.

... because [Spin] may OHKO enemies at that level. Not because they give better exp.

The level 1 double xp bug has been around for years. I've sent in bug reports for this issue more than a few times.

Its not just hellions, its anything that isn't in AE. Edit: It does not work in AE so go ahead and try it but it will award normal level 1 xp.

Hint: this is how I get my characters to level 4 quickly.

What makes you think it's a bug?

It's not a bug and it does work in AE. Possibly not custom enemies, but any standard level 1 enemy in AE will give double exp as long as you aren't exemplared.
