Best Slotting for Fly and Afterburner?
I'd leave fly as it is and give Afterburner an LotG +recharge.

don'T attempt to read tHis mEssaGe, And believe Me, it is not a codE.
According to the numbers I saw in Mids yesterday Fly and Afterburner will still exceed the new cap with no +Fly enhancement in either. So yeah, use the slots for procs.
What is the recharge on afterburner again?
I realize now that I can substitute it for stealth in my build, since I was just using stealth as a Mule power for a LOTG.
When something good happens to me, I can never enjoy it....
I am always too busy looking for the inevitable punchline...
BEHOLD THE POWER OF CHEESE!
What about hover? Does it need to be slotted for flight speed at all to reach its cap?

I don't know if there's a Final Ultimate Flight Speed Cap of Doom beyond which even Afterburner cannot reach.
My current slotting is 2 Fly SOs in Afterburner, which requires exactly 1 Fly SO in Fly to reach the adjusted cap with Afterburner on.
After doing some experimentation with different IOs, I came to the same conclusion as Rigel Kent. 1 IO in Fly and 2 in Afterburner is the best bang for your buck you can get. You can squeeze a little more flight cap out of Afterburner, but ED eats most of it.
So it sounds like 3 SO's in hover, 1 in fly, and 2 in afterburner.

i make stuff...
I put 1 flight speed in Fly and in Hover and Afterburner for blasters I toss in kb ios for an 8 mag kb protection.

Is it worth slotting Freebird (for Regen) and Winter-whatsit (for Slow protection)?
I'd guess 2 slots of Freebird in Afterburner and the two Winter-whatsits in Fly.
I ask as I currently have the enhancements

Personally, I don't think I'd even two slot Fly. More important stuff to slot elsewhere.
I think good slotting for Fly is probably "One Celerity +Stealth" and you're done.

And I agree, that's my typical slotting for Fly, 1 Freebird +Stealth in the base slot.

One IO in fly and 2 in afterburner. You could add procs or unqiues on top of that.
*edit*
With 3 and 3 on test, the fly cap I was able to attain was 87.95 mph. You hit 84 or so with the suggested slotting.
I am an ebil markeeter and will steal your moneiz ...correction stole your moneiz. I support keeping the poor down because it is impossible to make moneiz in this game.
ED softcapped Afterburner (with enough slotting in Fly to reach the Afterburner improved cap, of course) puts you somewhere between the SJ (78.18@50) and SS (92.5@50) caps, but closer to the SS cap.
So, yeah, aerial super speeding, fun! (If you can spare the power picks and enhancement slots.)
Even if you don't enhance fly speed in either of these powers (stealth in Fly, LotG in Afterburner, perhaps), you still get some extra speed from Afterburner, due to Fly+Swift going over the normal fly speed cap already. You'll still be a bit slower than SJ'ers, but you'll be faster than Sprint+Ninja/Beast (about damn time). So if you're tight on slots, that might be a good compromise for you.
Yeah, that's why I put knockback IOs in Hover and Afterburner. All 3 just get the default slot, and my justification is the inherent fitness opening up more power picks but no additional slots have been granted.

I'm a flight junkie. I love to fly. Pre-Issue 21, I slotted Fly with a BotZ Knockback Protection IO, and called it a day. Now, with Afterburner, I'm not sure what the most optimal slotting for Fly and Afterburner are. Any ideas?

Joking aside, 1 fly speed (or -KB, or -slow resist) in Fly, and one LotG +Global Recharge lvl 25 in Afterburner
Is the new version of Mids' accurate when it comes to Afterburner and Fly?
I slotted 3 Flight Speed SOs in Afterburner, on Mids', and Fly was boosted to 85 mph without any slotting of its own.
Is Fly really that high or does Afterburner increase flight speed as well as increasing the cap?
Mids' also says you can get Hover to 69 mph flight speed with Afterburner active. That's faster than Fly alone. That's crazy.
So what is the true story on how Afterburner works?
From what I've seen ios in afterburner don't even work unless you put a flight speed io in flight. 78 mph at level 50 with no enhancements in flight and none in afterburner. Add 2 flight ios to afterburner, unchanged. slot a single flight io in flight with the 2 in afterburner and the speed increases to 86mph. Likely a bug because it should not require a flight IO in flight just for afterburners slots to function.

A BotZ -KB or Winter's Gift +Slow Res in Fly, a LotG +Rech in Afterburner, and then just use Steam Jump or the Jump Pack to cap both.
Issue 16 made me feel like this.

I don't like powers that are not always available relatively quickly, so the jump pack is out of the question as well(plus it's another toggle to click).
I'm looking at Afterburner for SPEED because going fast is fun. I have fun with Super Speed, in builds with power picks to burn, but it's definitely not as good as flying.
FWIW, I've found over the past couple of months that I get the most bang for the buck with:
1. Two slotting Fly with a Blessing of the Zephyr: Speed IO and a Blessing of the Zephyr: Knockback Protection IO
and
2. Three slotting Afterburner with two level 50 Flight IOs and a Luck of the Gambler 7.5% Recharge IO.
Combined, this gets you to 84 MPH fly speed. If you're crazy like me and boost the Blessing of the Zephyr: Speed IO in Fly and the two level 50 Flight IOs in Afternburner with five enhancement boosters each, you'll get to approximately 86.5 MPH, iirc. Not much of a difference, but for a flight junkie like me, it matters.
