Anyone else think doms are a no-fit for the new 'playstyle' choice during character creation and the potential forum bloat reduction being considered by the dev crew.

Doms can be found under crowd control only as a playstyle. That doesn't fit half of what the AT does. It also can be ranged. It also can be melee.

And for the forum category, placing them in a Support AT forum is really demeaning imo. I don't know about you, but my doms provide very little support in regard to buffs. They control, then destroy. The end.

Maybe there's needs to be a Hybrid category or something. IDK. Just the current and potential future characterization aren't cutting it for me.


Please buff Ice Control.

I do think that the Playstyle tab should have Dominators under at least Ranged damage and maybe Melee damage as well. You have Electric Control, Ice Control and Fire Control that benefit from being in melee, the rest can be either ranged or melee; then most of the Assault sets can be taken into melee or stay ranged. Dominators can also be found under Pets (along with Controllers) despite only having access to 0-3 pets at a time towards the end of their life.

As for the proposed forum changes - I'm not a fan. The only way Dominators Support (outside Control) is through -HP debuffs, much like Scrappers, Blasters, Brutes, Corruptors, VEATs, EATs, Stalkers, etc.

We are a direct damage AT, with two primaries. This was the reason for the change, and I do not appreciate people who don't understand Castle's work ******* with it. :|

Control and Ranged, I can see... but not Melee. No matter how many melee powers a Dominator might have, that is simply not the role that they fulfill on a team in the classical sense. When one thinks, melee, one thinks of a Scrapper... does a lot of damage, and can stand up on his own in melee range. Doms are great, don't get me wrong, (and many can hold their own in melee), but that isn't their primary role.

I agree with Control and Ranged.

The only real outliers are /elec assault, and /Earth assault, having more melee than ranged. But overal a dom can do its job from range quite fine.


When something good happens to me, I can never enjoy it....
I am always too busy looking for the inevitable punchline...

Actually, /elec has a bit more ranged attacks than melee. Charged Bolts, Lightning Bolt, Static Field, Zapp, and technically Volty...but that could be omitted. Melee attacks are Charged Brawl, Havoc Punch, and Thunderstrike.

It could be argued though, that in /elec's case...the melee attacks are better. Course it could also be that my build thus far doesn't have the recharge to make a steady ranged chain.

My grav/energy dom is in his mid 30's and can make a steady chain of power bolt>power blast>power bolt>power push when hasten is running.

Dominators are a bit harder to play than most archtypes, and if you play them like a blaster or a scrapper you will be killed. I think they are appropriately placed because if a new player who knows nothing about the game grabs a dominator thinking they'll be like a ranged or melee dps class form another game they'll be sadly disappointed.

Me too but... I was looking at the new AT selection screen and thought 'damn if I were a new player I'd find that a bit complicated, what's the difference between Corrs and Defs? I also can't quite figure out Doms from Trollers just reading these descriptions. And so... Stalkers are the most damaging AT? They're the only ones who get 10 along with scrappers on damage'.

When I started it was easy, hero/villain and it kinda made sense because I could see each other as counterparts, even though Doms and Trollers are vastly different in practice.

My fire/ice dom would like a word with you. Plays just fine as a melee character (he's about as ranged as a spines scrapper ).

I mean, what's the point of those two TASTY PBAoE auras if you sit and plink at range...?

Hot feet and Chilling Embrace running: Power Boost>Flash Fire>Firecages>rush into mobs and unleash Ice Sword Circle. Usually, I beat my Imps to the mobs. Only ranged I have is my controls, the Tier 1 Blast with 1 Accuracy, and Bitter Ice Blast... 'cause that works just aws good point blank as it does at 40'.

Specific anecdotes aside... most of my Doms are more Scrappers and melee than anything else. Just instead of armors, my controls keep them alive.

I've got an Elec/Ice Dom who primarily acts as crowd control...But the crowd never lives for long. He also has Rebirth, which he's used numerous times to keep team members from dying off while he lays down the law.
