huge FPS drop exiting buildings

ever since I21, there seems to be a small chance that my framerate will drop extremely low when I leave a shop/hospital/other building. it looks like 2 FPS or something similarly low, the entire game is a slideshow. while this is happening, input seems to lag heavily, but I'm not sure if that's just the framerate or what.

if I go back inside, the issue goes away until I go outside again. /reloadgfx does nothing. the only fix I have found is simply restarting the game. there's no set of specific doors that do this, sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't. under normal circustances I have very nice FPS in the same areas. I haven't measured it but I'd guess my normal FPS to be 60+. graphics are on ultra with just about everything maxed.

I looked through this section to see if anyone else had this issue, but I see no posts on it, so I figured I'd make one myself.

some system specs for reference

cpu: core i7 3.6GHz
ram: 16Gb
graphics: 2x nvidia GTX580 in SLI
OS: windows 7 ultimate 64bit
driver version: 280.26 ( this is the most recent as far as I know)

anyone else had this happen to them?

I've had the exact same issue. The only temporary fix I've found (and made support aware of) is to open your graphics options, and move the Shadow Quality slider down to 0 and back to where you would normally have it. Temporary fix as you will end up having to do this every time, but it's better than a full client restart which I was doing as well initially :S

You don't need to hit apply, just move the slider and close the options again.

cpu: core i7 3.2GHz
ram: 16Gb
graphics: nVidia GTX590 (580 SLI on same board essentially)
OS: windows 7 ultimate 64bit
driver version: 280.26

thanks for the better fix, that will be really helpful. at least now I won't have to drop in the middle of teams briefly when it happens coming back from the hospital

I've been having this since I21 as well.

DON'T MESS WITH WHAT ISN'T BROKEN!

The game is such a CHORE to play now...

Thanks for the "fix"!

I've been having this kind of lag regardless of what I'm doing.

Prior to i21 I was able to run with pretty much everything maxed out with the graphics, but since i21 publish, I've had this 'shadows' bug and in a few maps I've had the frame rate drop into the teens if not single figures and this seems to be in areas with a bright localised light source. I've tried these areas with shadows off, and the frame rate still stutters into the teens, so it's not only shadows causing issues.

Thankfully the new maps for the signature arc look amazing and don't suffer from whatever is causing the graphics lag/stutters.

Overall I love the updates and new content in i21, I just wish it carried none of these little niggles and issues with it.

I took the tram to Kings Row and back to Atlas Park and had the same sever drop in FPS that the OP describes. From my 30-35 normal FPS to about 7 FPS. Exited the game and came back and everything was fine. So far it's only happened one time.

When it seems like a lost cause something works (trial and error) For a few weeks I've suffered with low FPS. Come to find out it was a bad driver install. I originally had 280.26 drivers and was very frustrated and decided to drop back down to 275.xxish. The game was noticably better. A few days later my brother noticed my drivers were "old" when I wasn't home and updated mine back to the latest 280.26 and the peformance maintained itself.
Have you tried to disable SLI for gameplay to see if that alters anything for your benefit ?
p.s. i don't suffer from drops in frames when exiting buildings etc

Don't be a mindless farm toon, we may need you on a non-soft SF someday. =)

For me anyway, there is something screwed with FSAA causing it to loose major FPS when passing doors where you don't "zone" .. IE places like the hospitals. tried FSAA x4 to x32 and it would do it. Turn FSAA off and it no longer does it. I have been using the 280.26 nvidia drivers, one of the recent "patches" has issues with these drivers. I'll try dropping back to the newest 275. and see if that helps me as well.

I've been running with FSAA turned off this evening and I've not experienced the drop in FPS... Will continue to run with this and see if it does indeed act as a band-aid for the issue.

** I should add that I dropped from the 280.26 drivers back to 275.xx and the problem persisted, so I upgraded again to 280.26 and still had the issue before turning off FSAA
