Some of them were very cool - Russian pilots liked the codename for the MiG-29, "Fulcrum", so much they used it themselves, and "Foxbat" has a certain something - but many were just... sad. I mean, "Flounder"? "Flagon"? "Frank"?
Whoops. My bad. The C-5 galaxy's nickname is the Queer.

About a month later, and this is important, a month after the event was over!!! an article was published that praised the event that was sponsored by Gay players. I forget if they were a single SG or a group of SG's.

That's when the forums erupted in a hate fueled flamewar. Blinding stupidity like if the gays can have events why can't heteros have hetero only events, and ingame christian prayer meetings. The event should have been banned because they were recruiting. Thankfully the mods started stepping in and locked/deleted threads.

So why is Queer banned? Because if idiots like that.
That was sponsored by R.A.F. on Victory as I recall, although it had wide cross-server coalition support via Pride global. (shameless plug)

I recall that the same haters who flamed the forums also joined and lurked on that channel, waiting to hear goodness knows what: our secret world domination and mass recruitment plans or something. They left when they figured out that Pride mostly hosted the same LFT and job-moaning chatter as any other global, except with slightly more mention of penises.

I also recall that the whole tit-for-tat events war ended about the time a group of Satanists announced an in-game Black Mass under Atlas the same day as the Christian revival event. Too bad, would have been quite a scene.

I just assumed it was a gay-themed show. I don't watch enough television to actually care.

Yeah, the idiom isn't used in the colonies, so, it was almost a gibberish title for us Usians. It might as well been Queer as Neighbors or Queer as Suburbanites.

I guess either no one could think up an equivalent title, or they wanted to make sure they collected up all the viewers who'd enjoyed the UK version. At least, I assume the UK version was shown over their first, and that's why they bought in the franchise. Otherwise it make even less sense.

Well, I guess it worked well enough, then.

Hmm Queer Politic would be an awesome name for a toon.

In a similar but not really vein - Black ...

Plenty of existing comic book characters have the Black prefix. But does anyone use it in-game? And has anyone ever either a) had it mistaken for being racist or b) had someone suddenly start spouting KKK propaganda?

If only a player could enter words/text into the filter system so it would block a specific word. I disable the filter anyway so this wouldnt affect me unless a word was disallowed completely(which I am generally against). If a player doesn't like a word it would be nice to have the option of entering it into your personal filter. The word itself(Queer) is not offensive so I don't understand why it is in the filtered list. On the flipside I expect many MMO refugees coming in and stirring up the locals. If you've ever played on xbox live you probably know what to expect come Freedom launch.
