CoH free trials

I know they retired them because of freedom coming, but I have friends who I want to join the game due to freedom (and are willing), but that 1.99 CoH sale ended, so I am kinda SoL

Do you think they should reinstate the trials (or the sale) until the game actually goes to freedom, or at least until they have a definitive date?

Not really. I think issue 21 will be here soon and that is for free players at least a trial version on steroids.

I am sure your friends can wait one more week.

Removing all of the stuff from the store before Freedom was a terrible move. They will have to wait a good while to play for free, since we are getting the head start before Freedom really launches.

They removed everything because it was supposed to launch September 1. Free trials ended on August 29. All the paid product left the store on August 30. Then Freedom was supposed to launch September 1. However, there are showstopper bugs in beta that are still being worked out (part of one bug isn't in our development's control but another company entirely) so you can't really blame them.

I mean, you CAN blame them, but it'd be kinda silly and mean.

So your friends could rationalize $2 but not the non sale price of $10 to get a head start because that's still in the store.

You could always blame them for choosing to stick with their plans to remove Boosters 'n such from the store when they knew Freedom (and consequently the new Paragon Store) would be significantly delayed.

Because that was pretty silly too.

It's pretty likely it's a little more involved than flipping a switch to say "these items can be sold now" and "these items can no longer be purchased". There was probably agreements made with processing companies, etc., that would restrict that. ASSUMING (I'm sure you know the saying about "assume") that it's simple to change the plans is equally silly.

I could also assume that a good PR move would be to announce that while Freedom is delayed it is indeed too late to turn back on the removal of the items from the Old Store due to reasons beyond their control, but I've given up on ever seeing good PR moves from this game.

Well, let's look at it this way. The way it actually turned out was bad. Who was responsible for it turning out this way? It's not like Hurricane Irene caused it and it was beyond anyone's control.
