What time does the game usualy patch?

I was just wondering what time patches usually go up. I'm eagerly anticipating seeing if today is the day freedom goes up or not.

I'm willing to bet my paycheck that Freedom does not go live within the next 2 weeks...

They've encountered some... hiccups, which will delay the release.

Beyond that. They would never release such a huge issue without some sort of advance PR. A week out or so.

They had planned on announcing the firm release date for Freedom at PAX but according to Posi, that date is currently up in the air while the problems are being ironed out.

You can always go look at the Beta currently being tested. Probably not a "final" list, but it should give you a good idea about what they are planning to put in the Paragon Market.

Also, the community reps try their best to announce scheduled maintenance here on the board. Something like Freedom launching, which will require an extended downtime, will absolutely be announced in advance.

Positron: "There are no bugs [in City of Heroes], just varying degrees of features."

Yes, I'd guess end of September, unless further hiccups occur. Positron just recently mentioned that they had hoped to have a release date announcement at PAX last weekend, but the announcement has been delayed. So expect to hear about it well in advance.

Yeah, if you see an announcement on the weekend about extended maintenance on a Tuesday... that's definitely a candidate for the issue release.

Plus, (unless I missed it) isn't standard operating procedure to release a pre-patch a week or two before a major release that runs when the client closes? To get most of the resources on to peoples machines so the download server isn't as hammered come release-day.

Granted, not sure how/if the NClaunher handles that sort of thing the same way the old patcher did, but I haven't noticed any such pre-downloading of i21 resources...

Based on the announced end of the sale of the Booster Packs in the NCsoft store as of yesterday I seriously believe that they had hoped to launch 21 today. That was probably going to be the PAX announcement Posi was talking about. Obviously the problems they recently discovered put those plans on hold for a bit.

There have been plenty of times in the past when an Issue being tested in open beta has been pushed to the live servers with just a few days "warning" about it. Although due to the nature of this particular Issue (with the launch of CoH:Freedom) I'd agree that we'll probably get a more proper official announcement about it well in advance of the actual release date.

I was under the impression that the new launcher made those old "pre-release downloads" a thing of the past. Obviously we'll see how it goes once Issue 21 finally does go live.

I'm pretty sure Zwill has said that they definitely won't go live with Freedom until the mac client is working much better than it is. If anything, that is probably the big show-stopper since it will lock out a decent sized portion of the game's players from the store, which will keep people from enjoying the game on the mac.

Last I remember hearing is they have some updates in internal testing now, with more expected in the pipe. A good signal for its getting really close could be to watch for when they update the mac client in beta and how well that goes. When that happens and goes well, my guess is Freedom will be soon after.

The NCSoft launcher uses the Akamai network to deliver patches. Akamai handles a sizeable chunk of the Internet's traffic; a little thing like everyone patching City of Heroes at once won't even show up as a blip on the radar.

I do believe that hiccups like the mac client issue(damn you greedy apple blinded "consumers") is what is causing the delay in the freedom launch. But with the new announcement of a head start coming for current subscribers Id be shocked if the launch of freedom wasnt this month. Heck Im sure wed see freedom in the next couple of weeks.
