The sword for the Brute

So from those who have done it in Beta and those who are good with numbers and those whose experience with CoX is crazy, how well does the Broad Sword go with the Brute? Does it work well with Fury? Or does it just fall on it's face, er sword.

I've always found broadsword's damage a little anemic, especially late game. There's nothing Brute could do that would fix that (post 22. As usual brute rocks the low levels.)

I wonder how they handled tier 9 powers extra critical chance for brutes.

Haven't tried it, but I imagine it runs into the same wall as it does on scrappers. Too many things late game resist that sort of damage, and depending on your secondary the redraw can get to be annoying. I've got a 50 Dual Blades/Regen scrap, and that redraw drives me up a wall. If you were going to do a broadsword brute, I'd recommend a good passive secondary like Willpower that doesn't require a ton of in-combat clicks.

This right here.

I was considering trying out a Katana/Regen Brute come i21 but started thinking about all that redraw... No. Thanks.

I'm planning on rolling a Katana/Willpower to avoid as much redraw as possible and will be slotting at least two Achilles Heel -Res procs to help with the Lethal Resists I'll encounter.

I love my kat/wp scrapper but she's more of a tank than a scrap since her damage output is lower and she's unkillable.

[edit: I didn't change the below sentence, but it's Fury, not Rage.]

Rage'll bring up the damage, which will be nice. I'll roll one, but have no plans to do it asap when i21 comes out.

Kat/ is BS/ with a gracefulness vs shield tradeoff.

They removed it.

Fury brings the post-SO damage up to nearly scrapper damage levels, not exceeds it. Your scrapper will do more damage with the same build and enhancements.

You can't put two achilles Heel -res proc in a build. Just saying.

You can slot as many Achilles Procs as your powers allow for they are not unique. What is unique is the effect that the proc creates.

The Achilles proc grants a power to the effected bad guy that gives them -20 res to all. This power isn't allowed to stack.

You can however stack the Achilles proc and the Fury of the Glad -Res proc.

Go broadsword/Shield and you won't be disappointed.

I went to The Fab in grandville and mopped up everything there with an SO build. I did have spiritual which helped recharge slice, whirling sword, and shield charge pretty regularly allowing me to aid self at the end. I keep grant cover off since it was an end hog with only one blue slotted.

So for example going against 2 bane soldier executioners and an assortment of crey tanks I unleashed the following:
hack = 130 to 162
slice = avg from 120 to 162
whirling sword = avg from 110 to 181; along with bleeding ranging from 10 to 15 of additional damage
disembowel = avg 150 to 242
head splitter = avg 240 to 343

Not the greatest since the executioner at one time critical me for 711 lethal damage

Having tried BS/Regen, I'll say the mitigation in BS is fantastic. Have to say it's one of the the least visually pleasing sets you can roll, though. Such a boring set of animations. I spiced it up a bit by using bio sword, but costume pieces can only do so much.

Regen paired very well with BS thanks to BS's mitigation helping it out so much. That said, Regen also feels a bit underwhelming on Brutes since Brutes have Willpower, and WP steps on Regen's toes in a big way. Less worry about keeping critters around you is the one big advantage Regen has over WP though.

I've been trying to figure out what lethal attacks get that balances out the high lethal resists. Faster recharging powers is the best I can come up with. If you can make 15% more attacks, then your damage being resisted 15% more is balanced. I have no idea if this is what the devs had in mind when setting the various damage resists up.

What turns me off of that combo is I can go to any MMO and roll a sword and board, so I find it excruciatingly boring to do it in this one. To each his own, though!

P.S. The one real advantage a Brute will have with BS is Fury can make up for missing Damage SOs in Parry, where the Scrapper has to take more of a damage hit on the power to really leverage its +Defense.

I imagine Katana will be quite fantastic if someone is looking to make a more tanky-brute. The fast attacks lend themselves very much to building fury and Divine Avalanche is always just that amazing.
