Eureka/Warehouse 13 08/08
Pity, I liked that Jo and Zoe had to save the day.
Oh and I really like HG. I don't trust her but I really like her.

The best part of Warehouse 13 for me was seeing Ianto in action again.
Goodbye may seem forever
Farewell is like the end
But in my heart's the memory
And there you'll always be

Eureka's cancellation is just one less thing keeping me with the channel.
Is it currently playing season 4? or season 5? I get confused with the .5 seasons they seem to have in the middle.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. For a channel that was once fully devoted to all things Sci-fi and cult classic they has proved again and again to have no respect for their fans,or the few quality series they have managed to air. As every single last one of them outside of BSG were canceled before a proper series finale was given time to be written or worked into current storylines.
They took Stargate, a franchise on the very cusp of becoming the next Star Trek, or if I may be so bold, America's answer to Doctor Who..and they dragged it out into a field to be shot only after trying to make it into a clone of BSG, their one and only mainstream success which in the process erased everything that made the franchise popular with fans in the first place.
In short. #$## you Scy-fy channel. I'm glad I stopped watching you with the name change.
Next in the news. Warehouse 13 will be canceled with a cliffhanger ending, and any attempts by other networks to buy the rights will be blocked.
Was given this by a friend on fb it's a way to contact someone at SyFy to let them know your displeasure...

just my two cents...
No DOOM today, DOOM tomorrow. There's always a DOOM tomorrow.

Well I could be wrong but I've been told that either the head of scyfi or the programming director is someone who doesn't like science fiction at all. So I'm not certain why you would hire someone like that to run a tv channel dedicated to science fiction. But it explains a lot of the weirdness with the channel the last few years.

She's now in charge of all of Universal's cable offerings including USA and Bravo.
Eureka quickly resolved the brainjacking plot but now "who knows" what the Luddites will do with whatever they got.
I was half expecting Jo to go all Men in Black on that Helo since it looks as if K and J are missing some of their weapons.
Who else thinks Senator "SG:U" is part of the Luddite group?
Warehouse 13
Could be the backdoor pilot for the steampunk Warehouse spinoff that was rumored. I enjoyed HG's flashbacks more than the rest of the episode.
Alphas
They sort of downplayed the whole Dr. Bionic Women rather than a lot of winks and nods. Alpha of the week was rather lame.

Eureka writer Amy Berg gave an explanation for the cancellation.
Everyone is asking why. It's simple, really. We are the network's golden child in every way, except profit margins. Fact is, Eureka is an expensive show to make and we could not maintain the quality of our show with the cuts it would take to make us profitable for Syfy's new parent company. Our creative execs at Syfy fought hard to keep us. Trust me, they LOVE us. We just couldn't make the numbers work. |
Sorry worng thread
Now we aren't ready quite yet to let the catgirls out of the bag.... (quote from ex libris)

There you have it, for once Syfy isn't to blame but rather Comcast in this case. |
Unlike the seriousness of some offbeat series (4400, Alphas, Haven, Sanctuary) Eureka like Warehouse 13 is goofy fun. It made me smile. But as I pointed out in the other thread, a repeat of Robot Chicken had better numbers last Monday.

That little gem managed to get her torn to ribbons at Sci-fi's press confrence for the Launch of tremors. To the point she was visibly holding back tears from Reporter questions such as."Are you retarded? Why would you cancel farscape for this crap?!"
There is a theory in management school that you don't have to understand what you are managing if you can reduce everything down to numbers, you then simply manage the numbers.
Doesn't matter if the numbers represent cars, PCs, Happy Meals, hotels, software development or TV networks. As long as you can keep it profitable and even make it more profitable, you get gold stars and are promoted up within or move to manage a larger corporation.

Famous example of that was John Sculley and Apple. Wildly successful CEO of Pepsi put in charge of a growing computer brand up against IBM and Microsoft. What could go wrong?
Anyways the problem with TV today is the audience is becoming to diluted. As the audience is spread between more and more networks, it's becoming difficult to be profitable with traditional scripted dramas and comedies. That drives networks to pursue game shows and "reality" shows. It's a lot cheaper to have one or two camera men with portable HD cameras filming in a pawn shop in LV and have someone edit together the more interesting parts than building a group of sets, a crew of writers, a flock of actors, etc.
It's quite possible that SyFy is audience share is past the point of no return for scripted TV. The scripted shows on TNT and USA in the summer draw more than twice the viewers and 3 times the 19-49 demographic than SyFy's. TNT "knows drama", USA "characters welcome", what is SyFy known for? Cheap disaster/monster movies on the weekends, when they aren't showing James Bond or PotC. A pile of "reality" shows chasing or debunking ghosts, aliens, cryptids, artifacts, etc. And then their's 'rassling. They simply aren't known for their original series so why would you expect people to turn to that channel to find them? And while their current dramas are the 2nd-5th most popular shows on that network according to the ratings ('rassling still #1), they still aren't popular enough in the eyes of advertisers.

I think scyfi could be turned around but it would require someone who knew the product to do it. Just someone who is a generic manager is never going to manage to pull it back.

Liked Eureka more than Warehouse 13 this week.
I hear that Season 5 will be the last for Eureka.
