Time to 50
I have to confess that I've been afraid to take a character to level 50 (I just got my 33 month badge and the highest toon I have is "42"). I figure all these enticements to get to 50 is a trick or test of some sort as in once you attain it the government sends out their men in black to disect your brain.
Then again some have suggested to me that I could be a wee bit paranoid.
I think I was at over 1000 hours for my first 50. Got it just a week or so before the three year anniversary, having started on the day of the game launched.
Subsequent 50s (other than my do-all-the-content Stalker) have been around 200-250 hours, with one even getting there in under 100.
Main Hero: Chad Gulzow-Man (Victory) 50, 1396 Badges
Main Villain: Evil Gulzow-Man (Victory) 50, 1193 Badges

My fastest is 10 days. I am not sure how many hours, but it was quite a few.
Most take me much longer than that, although I do have a few other characters I made around I18 release that have hit 50 already, but I have had more time than usual to play the game recently. Before they changed the XP curve, it likely took 150+ hours per character. Now, with blue bars, I bet I get to 50 in about 100 hours or even less on some.
Why Blasters? Empathy Sucks.
So, you want to be Mental?
What the hell? Let's buff defenders.
Tactics are for those who do not have a big enough hammer. Wisdom is knowing how big your hammer is.
I am betting when I21 goes live you will be seeing level 50's of the new power sets in under 5 hours.
My 1st 50 took 3 years. now its more 4-8 months because of altitis. But I still have 2-3 I1 toons in their mid 30's that I don't use often, so their clocks are still running

When I started playing my first 50 took me over a year or so, and then following that I took a year or two break from the game. I came back to play just over 6 months ago, and now I have another 3 50's.
That aside, me and my brother decided to work on a team of hero toons with a friend, to first see how strongly our powersets would combine to create a solid team, but then this team became so solid during level progression that we decided to make it a little 'race' project.
See, when I think of how long I have played this game, or played certain characters, I do it in the form of actual game time now as opposed to real life time. This can easily be tracked now in your characters Personal Info section, under Alignment. There, it tracks how long you've actually played, provided you haven't changed alignment or something.
Every other level 50 character I have has been played in excess of about a week on average. Currently, my level 39 controller which is part of this team project has only just passed 24 hours game time. I consider that to be quite fast considering his level and speed in earning xp. He's never been subject to a Weekly Strike Target, power levelling of higher level toons, AE, or anything like that, just the missions my brother has selected for us to act on. I wonder how fast I can get him to 50...
My first toon took me about a month to reach 50, radio mish and contact mish.
My last toon took me only 2 weeks, doing AE and TF and contact mish
I ...remember this! Well, something very much like it. I had just finished leveling my first toon to 50. An emp/elec defender, before most of the nifty temp powers, and slightly before and during ED. It took me about 400 hours.
Shortly thereafter, I got a spines/regen to 50 in 223 hours.
Now? With all the ease of leveling? It took my fire/fire tank maybe 90 hours? But - that's not using any Set IOs except for a couple of knockback procs and Lotg 7.5% recharges. (until she dinged 50)
The AT and powersets don't necessarily make much difference in leveling speed if you team with 7 others routinely, most of the time your on. If you're left to solo, it will take much longer. (unless you're running at */+8)
The process of bidding, buying, acquiring the salvage to craft the recipes takes time. A lot of time. I suggest using MIDS before you roll your toon. I suggest using an alt to bid on the recipes and salvage you'll need ahead of time, and have the enhancements ready in your base.
Still - let's say you got to 50 in less than 100 hours. Sure, you might impress some folks, but what about the accolades - not simply the badges - but the accolades the boost your end and HP. There are 4 that are non-clickable,(auto-on) and they're darn handy. Don't check your timer until you have your accolades. You don't want your toon walking around naked.

My very 1st 50 took about 2 months. That's about 3 hrs of play during weekdays and about 6-8 hrs of play during weekends. No AE. I mostly lead teams and did story arcs.
My first 50 took well over a year. My second took even longer as it was an older character and dinged 50 about 3 months after the first. My third and most recent dinged 50 yesterday after about 4 years.

It's varied pretty drastically on my characters. My first in issue 4 was roughly 250 hours (CMA)... my latest several have been in the 80 hour range. Of course the game has changed considerably since I started 7 years ago.

Started playing in CoH Beta. My first 50 was a Brute - no idea how many hours - following the release of CoV. I do know it's way easier and quicker to get a lvl 50 these days than it was back in the day. Altitis is my problem even now - I get fidgety around the lvl 35 mark and hanker for a younger toon. I do have several lvl 50s mainly scrappers and blasters now, working on a tanker atm, don't have the patience for defenders and other AT's of that ilk.
There is always a lot to be thankful for, if you take the time to look. For example, I'm sitting here thinking how nice it is that wrinkles don't hurt. ~Author Unknown

My first 50 took about a month which was about 90ish hours on a energy/elec blaster, didn't make any new toons till he dinged 50.
My fastest when AE first came out all boss farm my ma/shield took an ill/rad on my other account to 50 in 4 hours. Ya it was that crazy, and no stopping once you reached 750 tickets no sir you went till the cap. I know it's better for the games health but I still kinda miss those days.
Back in 05 when i started to play the game. I only had one character that I played, I never had any alts. I took a while to get to 50 because I was learning how to play the game. I think it took me 3 months to get to 50, if I can remember.
